Exile with Storage Space: Family Fortunes in the Barren Lands-Chapter 836: Li Xingsheng & Ling Yuezi Side Story (07): Night Visit (Part 2)
Lou Chengye took a sharp breath; could it be that just now, in the tavern, Li Xingsheng got angry because he found out that Princess Yue was Ling Yuezi?
Well, it seems that enemies do meet on narrow roads.
After winding through two streets, the attendant pointed at a particularly lively entrance of a shop in front and said, "There, that inn is run by our shopkeeper’s brother-in-law. It’s also close to the training field."
"Little brother, how do we get to the training field?" Lou Chengye glanced around and asked.
They were still on the street, crowded with people, and couldn’t see the training field.
"Easy to find, just keep going straight on this road for about three or four miles, and you’ll see it," the attendant said with a smile.
"No winding roads, that’s good then." Lou Chengye nodded with satisfaction.
The attendant led them into the inn and explained to the innkeeper inside.
The inn’s attendant immediately laughed, "Introduced by our own people, of course, we have good rooms."
Li Xingsheng tipped the guiding attendant a dozen coins and sent him off.
The innkeeper called for someone to take care of Li Xingsheng and Lou Chengye’s horses.
Li Xingsheng requested a room by the window.
The attendant said, "What a coincidence, we have just such a room."
He led them to the guest room and reminded them, "The Capital imposes a curfew, at the end of the seventh hour, except for government personnel, all are forbidden to walk on the streets. Violators will be arrested."
Lou Chengye stretched lazily, "We’ll sleep as soon as it gets dark, won’t go out."
After paying the room fee and sending the attendant off, Lou Chengye eagerly opened the window to view the street scene.
At this time, it was just dusk, not yet the curfew hour, and the street was bustling.
Lou Chengye said excitedly, "Second Brother, there’s an hour yet till curfew time; shall we take a stroll on the streets?"
Li Xingsheng was arranging his luggage, "No, you stay obediently in the inn."
He found a set of light clothes to change into.
The color of this outfit was dark, and in the night, wearing dark clothes made one nearly invisible.
Lou Chengye watched him dress and asked puzzled, "Second Brother, where are you going?"
"Go to sleep!" Li Xingsheng finished preparing, tossed the clothes he had taken off into Lou Chengye’s arms, "Help me tidy them up; I’ll bring you something tasty."
Lou Chengye, "..." Did he really just become an Attendant Student?
.
After leaving the inn, Li Xingsheng walked straight toward the Imperial Palace.
Luocheng wasn’t large, nothing compared to Zhen An Prefecture; casually asking someone would inform him where the Imperial Palace was.
Passersby advised Li Xingsheng, "It’s best to stay away from the Imperial Palace, young man; the Regent King governs and enforces a curfew inside and outside the palace."
"Why is there still a curfew within the palace?" Li Xingsheng’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"How would I know? It’s palace rules." The old passerby shook his head.
Li Xingsheng thanked the old man and continued on his way.
He walked quickly; contrary to the direction of the training field was the Nanyue Palace.
It was about three miles, and he took only half the time he usually would.
At this time, the Imperial Palace’s gates were tightly closed, with palace guards at several entrances, heavily guarded.
Li Xingsheng circled along the palace wall, choosing a less populated spot, swung up a rope, and climbed into the palace.
As soon as Li Xingsheng’s feet touched the ground, he saw three people approaching ahead.
He held the rope and quickly hid in a patch of low shrubs.
The three appeared to be a master and servants.
One held a lantern and walked with a hunch, evidently a eunuch.
Another was an elderly palace maid.
Walking in front of them was a slender, middle-aged man, not tall, but his attire and demeanor were impressive, appearing quite authoritative.
The lantern light revealed his sinister gaze.
"Did the Emperor dine with the Princess again?" The man’s voice was cold and deep.
"Reporting to the Regent King, yes, except for breakfast, they always dine together for lunch and dinner." The old palace maid replied.
"Last night, not a sound, this morning, the siblings delivered this stunning revelation to me! Hmph!" The Regent King sneered coldly, "Are you all useless? Couldn’t you have detected any signs of their collusion beforehand?"
The old palace maid and eunuch bowed their heads together, speaking in low tones.
"To the Moonlight Palace, I’m going to see the Princess!" The Regent King walked briskly ahead, hands clasped behind his back.
The eunuch and the old palace maid hurried to keep up.
Li Xingsheng’s eyes narrowed slightly, pondered for a moment, then swiftly departed in the opposite direction.
...
In their early years, the Southern Yue people were not a nation but a group of scattered tribes living in the jungles, relying on hunting for survival.
Later, a wise person among them unified the tribes and established the Nanyue Country.
