Chapter 67: An Arm For An Arm

Step!

Step!

Step!

Step!

Her slow but rhythmic movement made prominent against the floor boards as she walked briskly observing her environment.

She had swept through the lower decks of the cruise ship— The Whistling Derrick and had still seen no sign of survivors or the Calamity Creature responsible for this disaster.

Boom!

A sudden loud explosion sound came from the floor just above were she stood and she immediately and instinctively blasted through the dead corpses and pools of blood as she ran towards the direction of the sound.

Whoosh!

Step!

Step!

Step!

She blasted up the stairwell and into the clearing, in front of her was a huge door with intricate and expensive designs that implied wealth and status. Blood was spilled all over the artwork, there by reducing its glow.

"The Banquet Hall..." She muttered and made a beeline for it.

The banquet hall reeked of blood and ozone. Smoke and dust rose lazily from the scattered walls and the chandelier that hung high above was broken.

The floor wasn’t much different from the rest of the upper decks of the cruise ship. Blood and water mixture with shards of shattered glass and crystal scattered everywhere.

Lady Phoenix stepped through the heavy doors.

She stopped as her amber eyes locked onto the horrific scene that unfolded before her eyes.

There, as the cloud of dust cleared, stood the eel like Calamity Creature, its pale blue skin gleamed under the deem lightning with red patches all over and purple blood oozing from various parts of its body.

It chewed on the head of something she immediately interpreted as easily as spotting a butterfly. The hair, the eyes popping under the weight of the creatures snapping jaw.

*Kpim!

Her mouth dropped like an oven door. Liquid Crystals head! But crushed and unrecognizable.

A few meters away from where the creature stood, his headless body laid there— still, lifeless and missing an arm.

"Huh!"

Her breath caught in her throat.

"Jayden..." A whisper finally escaped from her vocal cords.

Then, slowly, her expression twisted into something far more primal. Her eyes furrowed intensively, her fists tightned and she clenched her jaw hard..

"You monster..."

The Calamity Creature took notice of her and immediately hissed, baring its fangs allowing the remainder of what was left of Liquid Crystal’s head to drizzle to the floor.

She pushed the door aside with incredible force that both side of it flew the opposite direction and landed with a huge thud.

Bam!

Fwooosh!

The ground beneath her cracked.

She slammed into the creature with the force of a meteor sending it flying backwards and into a stack of chairs at the other end of the hall.

Boom!

It bounced across the ground tearing through the tables, chairs and pillars. She didn’t stop. She chased it mid air, grabbing its tendrils and yanking it downwards with incredible force.

Slam!

The floor boards cracked underneath the impact and cracked again and again until it gave in.

They both fell through the floor and landed violently on the next floor below the banquet hall.

"You killed him!" She roared as she continued punching away on the creature with furry in her eyes.

"One of the most loyal soldiers I ever worked with and you devoured him!"

The creature coiled in pain, lashing out with a bolt of electricity.

Shrreeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkk!

Zzzrrt!

She caught it midair with her hands, the energy sizzled under her leather reinforced gloves but still not causing any damage to her.

"Not this time pretty..."

She yanked the tendril, spun it around and snapped it clean off the creatures body.

Shrreeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkk!

The Calamity Creature screeched in agony as purple blood sprayed from the wound she inflicted.

She drove backwards immediately, creating space between her and the creature.

Her boots and her palms screeched across the floor as she came to a stop.

"You’re so lucky I didn’t bring my sword along..."

"It doesn’t matter, cause I can kill you with or without it!"

"Skill: Bull’s-eye Punch"

Whoooooshhhh!

She blasted forward and closed the gap she created in the blink of an eye. Her movements followed with a straight uninterrupted punch straight to the chest section of the Calamity Creature.

That spot immediately changed shade to red, from its original light blue colour.

"I should hae arrived sooner!" She growled, her eyes glowing with anger.

"But, I will end this..."

The monster writhed, purple blood leaking from its mouth as it staggered backwards.

It shot up and glanced at Lady Phoenix who was preparing herself for another strike, then it twisted and turned trying to escape into the shadows.

It knew it wasn’t a match for an S-Class hero.

"You’re not going anywhere, not after what you did!" She hissed.

"Skill: Burning Wings!!"

Her eyes began to burn bright orange fire and so were her fist. Just then, the back of her black spandex clothing began to heat up and in a matter of seconds, it burned away.

From her back, a pair of orange fiery flame erupted forming into the shape of wings, spread and flapping out in all its majestic colors.

The light which she emmited lit the whole room up, getting rid of the dark corners and shadows in the process.

"No where to hide now!" She said, her eyes blazing.

With a flap of her blazing wings, she launched herself towards the creature again.

"Skill: Bull’s-eye Punch!"

She punched downward.

Boom!

The creature barely blocked, screeching.

"You’re not even the worst thing I’ve faced. You think I’ll break because of Jayden’s death?"

She parried another blinding energy of fist, spinning mid air and punching off the right arm of the creature.

"Tch! I should have gone for the left..."

She shrugged her shoulders, "Well, an arm for an arm. It doesn’t matter which one... Next is your head..."

Just then—

Kreeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

A shrill, alien shriek split the air.

Lady Phoenix froze.

A shadow dropped from the hole in the ceiling and entered the brightly lit room.

Thud.
