Chapter 66: Liquid Crystal

Liquid Crystal spun around, spotting a middle-aged man slumped against the wall. His body was limp, his breaths also ragged.

"A survivor!"

He rushed over, crouching beside him. The man’s lips moved, struggling to form words—but before he could say anything, his chest rose one final time... and fell silent.

Liquid Crystal’s gaze dropped to the massive, gaping wound in the man’s midsection.

"Excessive blood loss... There was no saving him."

He pressed his earpiece.

"Boss? Clark? Do you copy?"

Silence.

Whirring.

He tried again.

Nothing.

"Lost communication... Must be the storm."

With a sigh, he pushed forward, continuing his sweep of the upper decks.

Eventually, he came across a massive door adorned with intricate engravings. Blood splatters stained the carved designs, a grotesque contrast to their craftsmanship.

Liquid Crystal hesitated for only a moment before pushing it open.

Beyond the door stretched a vast, dimly lit hall. A grand chandelier loomed overhead, its glow barely piercing the darkness. Tables and chairs were overturned, bodies slumped in unnatural positions, frozen in death.

"The banquet hall..." he muttered.

He stepped inside cautiously, scanning for any survivors—or worse, the Calamity Creature.

Then he saw it.

A shadow at the far end of the room.

It wasn’t human.

The figure was massive, its limbs were unaturally large—twice the size of his own.

He exhaled slowly, a smirk creeping onto his lips.

"Oiiiii... I know you’re there, you vile creature."

He said while rolling his shoulders, flexing his wrists.

"Come out... So I can kill you already."

Liquid Crystal stepped forward, boots splashing in blood. His eyes locked onto the hulking figure ahead.

"Look at you," he sneered. "A slimy freak hiding in the dark. Here’s what’s gonna happen—I beat you into the floor, rip off those ugly little arms, and—"

Whoooooshhhh!

The creature lunged forward suddenly.

Jayden barely dodged as a tendril of lightning lashed out, shattering the floor. It moved fast—too fast. Before he could react, a charged limb slammed into him.

CRACK!

Electricity surged sharply through his body. His muscles seized as he was thrown backward from the impact, crashing into overturned chairs as smoke rose from his jacket.

He groaned, shaking off the numbness. "That actually hurt."

The monster emerged from the shadows—its body slick and eel-like, shimmering with crackling energy. No eyes. Just a gaping mouth lined with needle-like fangs. Tendrils flickered with electricity and everything in closed with a blue glossy skin

Liquid Crystal exhaled sharply.

He sprinted forward, using the broken furniture as footholds. At the last second, he twisted—

BAM!

His fist connected with the creature’s torso, sending it skidding across the banquet hall.

He didn’t stop. He grabbed a tendril, yanking it—

ZZZT!

The sharp zap of hot electricity tore through him, but he powered through the pain, swinging his free hand—

BOOM!

His fist slammed into its head, cracking its slick blue skin that immediately changed shade to red upon impact.

The creature screeched, its body convulsing violently. Then, suddenly—

The huge chandelier hanging above the room suddenly exploded.

Electricity surged through the room, jumping from metal to metal. Sparks rained down, igniting the walls.

Liquid Crystal barely had time to react before a bolt struck his chest. He was launched backward, coughing blood.

He forced himself up. The creature slithered forward, its large mandibles widening.

Liquid Crystal tensed, readying himself for one more shot—

The monster immediately coiled around him.

Tendrils wrapped tight, crackling with lethal voltage.

He struggled, but the pressure was crushing. The eel’s head loomed closer—

Then it bit down.

"Argghhh!"

His scream tore through the hall as his blood sprayed in all directions.

He glanced at his left arm to realize that it was gone.

Grit.

He gnashed his teeth against eachother as he clutched what was left of his severed shoulder, panting heavily like a guard dog.

Pain rippled through him as blood squirted out of the wound, but he refused to let out another agonizing scream.

His vision blurred as blood pooled beneath him, it was eerie and skin crawling seeing all that blood come together, mixing with water that had made its way into the ship from the storm above.

The Calamity Creature hissed, electricity coursing through its tendrils as its body slithered in a slow menace.

"Shut... Can’t let it end like this..."

He clenched his jaws even harder and slammed his right hand to the blood pooled floor.

"One arm? No problem... All I know is that, that arm is the last thing you’ll be eating today... You vile beast!"

Bam!

He spread his legs and dangled his remaining right arm so it hovered just above the pool of bloodied water.

"Skill: Molecular Crystalization"

Tap!

He dipped a finger into the pool and the blooded water around him trembled violently, then it solidified, morphing into a deep red crystal that burst upward, twisting and fusing onto the stump of his missing arm.

In a matter of seconds, a jagged, glassy construct formed; a long, spear like appendage forged from the blood and water mixture itself. It pulsed red with a razor sharp point.

Clang!

He banged it softly on the ground as he reveld his new, self made prosthetic limb.

"Thanks for bleeding out guys," he muttered under his breath.

The creature reared up on hearing the clang sound.

Liquid Crystal lunged, his blood arm glinting as it extended like a whip. He swung it hard.

Crack!

It came in contact with the unprepared creature and severed one of its smaller limbs.

"Haha! Not so tough now, huh?"

Whoosh!

He darted left, using broken tables as springboards, flipping through the air as arcs of blue energy lashed out around him. One grazed his side, searing his ribs.

"Ghhh!"

He spun, twisted mid-air, and drove his crystal arm downward

SHUNK!

The spear punched clean through the monster’s flank, pinning it to the wall. Sparks exploded from the impact point as the affected area began to change shade.

"The skin turns red when injured..."

But it wasn’t enough.

FWWAAM!

A burst of electricity surged outward, blasting him away. He slammed into a pillar, coughed blood, and collapsed to one knee.

"Damn... It’s like hitting a lightning storm wrapped in muscle..."

He raised his head slowly. The creature writhed, tearing itself free, leaking glowing purple blood.

Liquid Crystal chuckled breathlessly. "Still kicking... Guess I’ll have to try harder."

"This thing’s stronger than me... faster... meaner. It also somewhat smart but not smarter than me! I’ve got one shot and if I miss..."

He didn’t finish the thought.

Instead, he charged towards the Calamity Creature recklessly, fearlessly. The floor cracked beneath his feet. Blood-arm spear elongated, coiling like a viper.

Shrruuuu!

The two forces collided with brutal violence.

In a matter of seconds they traded hundreds of blows. Limbs severed. Flesh burned. Screams echoed.

He slid beneath a lightning whip, twisted up, and drove his spear through the creature’s neck.

Shrreeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkk!

The beast wailed, purple blood spraying in waves. It retaliated with its tail lashing it like a hammer. Liquid Crystal ducked, barely evading the creatures attack, then he carved across its midsection.

For a moment, victory seemed within reach.

"Just a bit more...!"

But the monster’s next move was pure instinct.

SWOOSH!

A bolt of electricity struck his legs, paralyzing them for half a second

The eel coiled.

"Huh!"

Liquid Crystal’s eyes widened.

"No—!"

SLASH!

In a blink, the creature’s clawed limb swung wide and—

SNAP!

His head flew from his shoulders.

Time seemed to freeze as blood gushed from the stump. His decapitated body remained standing for a moment longer—before collapsing in the wet floor of the room.

The creature caught his head mid-air in its jaws.

And bit down.

Crunch!.
