Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 51: Exposed
Silas’s eyes suddenly surged with an indescribable expression.
The last time Chloe came out from Tanya Thorne’s house, was she really allergic to the pollen, or was she covering up another truth?
Silas didn’t reveal his doubts.
Instead, he apologetically returned the flowers to Jett Sterling: "Sorry, I remembered it wrong."
Jett glared at him, "I’ve been with Chloe for four years. Would I not know her habits? You’re just trying to retaliate. Are you satisfied now, forcing Chloe to sue you?"
Silas’s tone was flat: "Thank you for tolerating, President Sterling."
"Tolerate my ass! If it wasn’t for you, Auntie wouldn’t be in the hospital. I was just about to find the truth, but you had to stop me. Silas, don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to."
Hearing this, Silas’s face remained calm and indifferent.
He looked steadily at Jett: "Do you really think the Sterling family will let you investigate this case? There’s too much at stake for them. They won’t let you do it. Only if I interfere can we catch the real culprit behind all this."
Seeing that the two were about to fight, Mrs. Nash quickly spoke up.
"These flowers are so beautiful, all my favorite kinds. Young Sterling, you’re so thoughtful."
Jett apologized, "Auntie, it’s all my fault. I’m the reason you ended up in the hospital."
"You’ve done your best, no need to blame yourself. If saving your uncle means you have to fight your family, I wouldn’t agree to that either."
Mrs. Nash looked at Jett, who had been busy all this time, and thought of her late biological daughter. A touch of heartache crossed her eyes.
The relationship between Jett and Chloe back then, she had witnessed it all.
Now, because of Silas, Sienna Paxton can’t tell Jett the truth. What will happen when he finds out in the future?
Sienna could never truly replace Chloe in Jett’s life.
So Mrs. Nash couldn’t let Jett go against his family over their matters.
Just then, Chloe came in with Julian.
The little one was very well-behaved, toddling over to Mrs. Nash’s bedside, hugging her neck and affectionately calling out, "Grandma."
Hearing this "Grandma," Mrs. Nash was overjoyed.
Smiling, she stroked Julian’s head: "You must be Julian. You’re so good-looking and so sweet. Grandma really likes you. This is for you."
Mrs. Nash took off a Jade Goddess of Mercy from her neck, intending to put it on Julian.
Silas quickly declined, "Auntie, this is too valuable. We can’t accept it."
Mrs. Nash insisted on putting it on Julian, smiling as she said, "Compared to your family’s treasures, this piece of jade isn’t worth much. But I had a master bless it, it’ll keep the child safe."
Silas had helped save Mr. North; she didn’t want Chloe to bear that gratitude all by herself.
Hearing this, Silas reminded Julian, "Aren’t you going to thank Grandma?"
"Thank you, Grandma."
The two of them hugged together, squashing the flowers in Mrs. Nash’s arms.
Silas hurried over, took the bouquet, and handed it to Chloe.
"Auntie really likes these flowers. Find a vase to put them in, don’t waste President Sterling’s thoughtfulness."
He deliberately emphasized "President Sterling" as if he and Chloe were a family and Jett was the outsider.
Jett snorted coldly in anger, shoving Silas aside.
His eyes full of concern as he looked at Chloe: "Chloe, did he bully you?"
Chloe shook her head: "President Prescott and I are just collaborators. He helped me save my father, and I’m accompanying Julian for his treatment. No other complications."
"Still, you need to be careful. He’s sly as hell. Don’t be fooled by his gentlemanly appearance."
How could Chloe not know what kind of person Silas was?
She gave a faint smile, about to speak, when her nose suddenly itched.
Chloe had noticed the bouquet as soon as she walked in.
Afraid to give herself away, she’d kept her distance and didn’t dare get close.
She didn’t expect Silas to hand the bouquet directly to her.
The scent made her nose itch instantly, but she tried hard not to sneeze.
However, there were lilies in the bouquet—what she was most allergic to.
This particular flower would trigger her worst allergies.
She finally couldn’t stand the pollen anymore, sneezing several times in a row.
It was completely uncontrollable.
Seeing this, Silas immediately snatched the bouquet away from her.
"There’s no vase in the room. Why not put them at the nurses’ station? That way President Sterling’s good intentions will last a little longer."
After saying that, he turned and handed the flowers to the young nurse who had just walked in: "You all worked so hard caring for the patient last night. These flowers are for you."
Getting flowers from a handsome family member first thing in the morning, the young nurse was thrilled and jumped up with excitement.
Hugging the flowers, she thanked them and ran off.
Not only did Silas notice Chloe’s reaction, Jett saw it too.
He looked at Chloe in disbelief.
"Chloe, you’re allergic to pollen? Why didn’t this ever happen when I gave you flowers before?"
Chloe knew being with both of them at the same time would make her identity much easier to expose.
She did her best to hide her panic, replying in a calm tone.
"I didn’t want to disappoint you, so I’d take allergy meds ahead of time."
Jett was only half convinced.
He’d surprised Chloe with flowers many times before—how could she have known to take allergy medicine in advance?
But he didn’t let it show, only shot an angry glare at Silas: "President Prescott, you really are a master at borrowing things for your own ends."
Silas didn’t expose the lie either; he just smiled and said, "If they’re at the nurses’ station, everyone in the building can appreciate President Sterling’s thoughtfulness. Isn’t that even better?"
Chloe nervously clenched her fingers.
Their calm, measured attitudes made her feel even more uneasy. The turbulence beneath their placid surfaces was even scarier.
Pretending to be fine, she walked up to Mrs. Nash and said, "Mom, why don’t you rest a bit? I’ll take Julian to see the psychologist and come back later."
Mrs. Nash waved them off, "Go ahead. I could use some peace and quiet."
With both Silas and Jett in the room, she was afraid she’d accidentally expose Chloe’s identity.
That bouquet earlier was already a warning example.
The three of them left the ward together.
Jett suddenly offered kindly, "I have a classmate who just got back from abroad, a PhD in psychology. I can ask him to help."
Silas was about to refuse, but heard Chloe say, "Sure. It’s easier to talk to someone you know."
Seeing her agree, Jett grinned proudly.
He even teased Chloe, "Do you remember who he is? His name’s Caleb Langdon. We had dinner together before."
Chloe racked her brain for any information on Caleb Langdon, but there was no trace of him in her memory bank.
But she didn’t reveal anything, just nodded slightly, "I remember."
When they got to Caleb Langdon’s office, Jett’s phone suddenly rang.
He went to the hallway to take the call.
Chloe and Silas brought Julian into the office.
Inside sat a man in a white coat, gold-rimmed glasses on his nose.
He looked about the same age as Jett.
When he saw Chloe come in, he seemed surprised. "Chloe, it’s you?"
Chloe assumed he was Caleb Langdon. Not wanting Jett to notice anything strange, she politely nodded.
"Dr. Langdon, it’s been a long time."
