Chapter 118: Chapter 118: I Got Bitten by a Kitten

Silas glared at him, "I drank too much last night. Where did you go?"

"I got tricked by that little brat Stella Sterling. While I was out buying you hangover meds, she snuck off and took you away. I went back to your room and couldn’t find you. She didn’t do anything to you, right?"

Silas seemed to recall something; Stella had tried to bring him back to his room, but he’d chased her off.

And then... he’d gone to find Chloe.

Memories from last night started flashing back in his mind, piece by piece.

He’d held Chloe, and even snatched away her gift.

At the thought, Silas’s lips couldn’t help curving slightly, "I went to see Chloe. She gave me lots of stuff."

Chase picked up the bottle of perfume from the bed, glanced at the squished chocolate, and couldn’t help but sneer.

"Are you sure she gave those to you? Didn’t you just steal them?"

Silas snatched it from his hand, "Don’t touch my things with your filthy hands."

He carefully hid the bottle of perfume in his cabinet.

Chase couldn’t hold back a laugh, "It’s fitting for Styx then, seeing as it’s stolen loot. That bottle of perfume’s gotta be worth tens of thousands. The cops could open a case."

Silas ignored him and headed straight to the bathroom to wash up.

Once dressed, he went to knock on Chloe’s room door.

But he saw Caden Sinclair was in that room, too.

Silas put on a polite smile, "Dr. Nash, do you have a moment?"

Chloe remembered all her gifts had been snatched by this man and asked irritably,

"Does President Prescott want something?"

Silas maneuvered around Caden, pointed to the scratch on his chin, and said, "I got bitten here by a little kitten. Wanted to ask what you’d recommend for treatment."

Before Chloe could answer, Caden poked his head over to look at Silas’s wound and muttered, "Bitten so badly, President Prescott, you’d better hurry to the vet for a shot."

Silas shot him a cold glare, "I’m a person, not an animal."

"Oh, sorry, my mistake. I guess the CDC then—all animals carry germs. Wouldn’t want you to catch cat rabies down the line, right, Chloe?"

Chloe nodded without hesitation, "Right, President Prescott, better safe than sorry."

Watching the two of them team up, Silas felt his temples throb painfully.

But his face betrayed no annoyance; if anything, he gazed at Chloe gently, "I’m not that delicate. Just put some ointment on it for me."

Chloe finished packing her things, gave him a perfunctory smile as she hefted her bag,

"Sorry, President Prescott, I don’t have any meds here. Besides, I don’t have time—we’ve got a meeting."

With that, she left without a backward glance.

Caden, ever the good guy, handed Silas a box of medicine with a grin, "President Prescott, I’ve got just the thing. See if it’ll work for you."

Silas glanced at the instructions, and his face darkened instantly.

Grendale Herbal Athlete’s Foot Cream.

He was so pissed he ground his teeth a little, about to retort when he saw Caden and Chloe leaving together, laughing.

——

Chloe spent three days in Varden attending meetings.

She was heading back on the fourth morning.

As she went to the front desk to check out, she happened to see Owen Paxton handling his own checkout.

She gave Owen a smile, "Assistant Paxton, is your grandfather feeling any better?"

Owen nodded slightly, "Much better. Thanks for helping me look after President Prescott the other day. I’ll treat you to a meal when we’re back."

Chloe’s tone was bland, "No need for a meal. You should focus on your grandfather. After all, coming back from the dead is pretty rare—you should truly treasure that once-in-a-lifetime miracle."

Hearing this, Owen knew his lie had been exposed.

He scratched his head, and offered an awkward smile, "Sorry, Dr. Nash. I just wanted to slack off that day, didn’t mean to deliberately deceive you."

After finishing her checkout, Chloe smiled softly, "It’s fine. Honestly, you do what you’re paid for, right? If your boss tells you something, you don’t dare refuse. Just pick a better excuse next time, or else if your grandpa actually comes looking for you, I’m afraid you won’t be able to handle it."

"No, Dr. Nash, this actually has nothing to do with our president. I..."

He was about to explain when the elevator doors slid open.

Silas Prescott and Stella Sterling stepped out of the elevator.

Stella, playing the happy little woman, stood close to Silas, her eyes brimming with affection as she stared at him.

Seeing this, Chloe felt an inexplicable pang of bitterness.

She knew that Stella had always been pursuing Silas, and the Prescott Family was eager to unite with the Sterling Family through marriage.

After all, in terms of family background and personal capability, the two were a perfect match.

Suddenly, Chloe recalled what Henry Prescott had said to Sienna five years ago.

He’d said, even if you sleep with Silas, at best you’re just a tool for him to vent his sexual urges. The Prescott Family’s young mistress position will never be yours.

Yeah, she really was just a tool for Silas’s urges, with zero freedom to speak of.

Even now, thinking back on it, Chloe’s heart still ached.

She quickly turned to Caden Sinclair at her side, "Is our car here yet?"

"Yep, let’s go."

Caden knew all about Sienna’s situation; he knew she’d gone to the war zone to escape Silas, and he knew how fixated Silas was on Sienna.

He watched Silas come down with another woman and couldn’t help cursing in his heart.

What a bastard, chasing my Sienna on one hand, flirting with another woman on the other. Seriously thinks she’s that easy to mess with?

Dragging both suitcases, he purposely rolled a wheel over Silas’s foot as they passed him.

Then he flashed an apologetic smile, "Sorry about that, President Prescott. Your foot alright?"

Silas knew it was on purpose but didn’t call him out—just replied coolly, "It’s fine."

Caden quipped, "If it isn’t, you can always use the meds I gave you the other day."

After that, he led Chloe away.

Noticing Chloe’s gloomy expression, Silas asked Owen, "What’s wrong with her?"

Owen hesitated for a few seconds, then replied, "She found out I lied to her the other day. Thinks you ordered me to do it on purpose."

Silas gave him a sidelong glance, "Idiot."

"Sorry, President Prescott, I’ll apologize to Dr. Nash properly when we get back."

"Upgrade her seat to first class."

"Okay, I’ll handle it right away."

Hearing all this, Stella Sterling cursed angrily in her mind, "Chloe, if it wasn’t for you that night, I’d have slept with Brother Silas. You ruined everything for me! I’ll make you pay!"

She smiled sweetly at Silas, "Brother Silas, I’m heading back to Riverton today too. My grandma’s about to be discharged, but I get a little airsick. Can I sit with you?"

Silas looked at her coldly, "If you’re airsick, take the train."

"But the train is too slow—I’ll miss grandma’s discharge."

Silas’s gaze stayed calm but chillingly cold, "Stella Sterling, don’t think I don’t see what you’re up to. You intentionally took the same elevator as me just now, wanting Chloe to get the wrong idea, didn’t you?"

Stella was startled and quickly shook her head, "No, I just went upstairs to see a friend. Accidentally bumped into you."

"No need to put on a show for me. I honestly don’t care."

With that, he turned and walked away.

Right in front of the receptionist, humiliating her in public. Stella was so angry she stamped her foot.

"Silas Prescott, I will make you marry me!"

She whipped out her phone and made a call, "Find a way to make trouble for Albie Kane’s company—use Silas Prescott’s name."

She didn’t believe that if something happened to Albie’s company, Chloe could still get along peacefully with Silas.
