Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking-Chapter 920: Ilya Silverspoon - President of the Golden Bangle Nation
--
’W-what the hell did he just say? ’
Ilya Silverspoon’s eyes widened in shock.
For a person of his status, Ilya thought that he’d seen and heard it all. He had been to many places, witnessed all sorts of things, and had a rather rich and action-filled life.
Although he wasn’t as old or as experienced as the others in this room, he had his fair share of experiences that qualify him as a veteran of the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm.
That said, even though he came here with a long list of things he thought would be the topic of this meeting, what he just heard from Nicholas was the last thing he was expecting.
"I know that you’re shocked right now, so let me explain how this all happened..."
Nicholas then went into a long tirade of speech that led to them potentially having two chaos realms to colonize. He left out ’CS’ in this conversation, crediting him as this ’benefactor’ he mentioned in passing. He glazed over it so well that none of the three gentlemen caught on.
Nevertheless, what they told them was still shocking.
So many things have happened beyond their perception, and none of them even had any idea. Even Ilya, for all of the eyes and ears he had scattered all over the Five Known Chaos Realms, was caught surprised by this reveal.
And that’s saying a lot...don’t underestimate just how fast and accurately his men gather intelligence. As the richest merchant in the Five Known Chaos Realms, the Silverspoon Clan had informants scattered all over the Primitive Universe.
Most of whom Ilya himself never met in person. Nevertheless, they are under oath of service and loyalty to the Golden Bangle Bank and are assigned to their tasks.
But even with this many informants, this news came to him as a surprise.
This wasn’t due to him neglecting his duties. Ilya, as pampered and as rich as he was, was raised as a responsible man. When it’s time to work, he works hard. And when it’s time to rest, he rests. He’s got a healthy work and life balance, and he’s not that weak-willed himself.
He has been diligently knocking down mountains of documents whenever he’s in his office. His memory hasn’t gone that bad yet for him to not even remember a lick of something this important.
The closest detail he could remember was that online post that had become rather popular lately. The one where the poster calculated (roughly) how much it would cost to revitalize the Crimson Womb Chaos Realm and how long it would take for it to happen.
Long story short, the poster said that it’s not worth the effort and the cost. And Ilya found himself agreeing wholeheartedly with this.
Maybe, if both the Human Council and the Golden Bangle Bank pooled their resources and manpower together, it might just be possible. But even then, it’d still take way too much time, effort, and resources for very little return.
Ilya could recognize a bad investment when he sees one.
The other thing that caught him by surprise was the news, or lack thereof, of the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm.
He remembered sending his people there, and he could’ve sworn that the last time they checked, they were doing just fine; at least that’s what the report sent back.
They said that they were taking their operations underground due to tensions in the realm and might not be able to send reports as frequently in return as they have before because of this.
Ilya didn’t think much about it. He knew that the Demon Race was staging a comeback, but he never thought that they’d make it happen! He never thought that they’d actually succeed in usurping the chaos realm from everybody!
The worst part is that he couldn’t even blame his men since they’ve probably been corrupted instantly and went mad before they could send the reports back.
He also neglected his people there. Not even once did it cross his mind that they might be struggling out there. He didn’t even become suspicious of their silence. He just thought that everything was going well.
As for the profits from that branch? It wouldn’t even count as a drop in a bucket. What they got there was so little that it wouldn’t even be enough to be considered as Ilya’s spare change.
But the most shocking part, obviously, was the fact that the Human Sovereigns did all of this without alarming everybody.
They dealt with the demons of the Black Pegasus Chaos Realm and got rid of the infernal energy there. They also set up a grand formation that cured and revitalized the chaos realm. They also did the same for the Crimson Womb Chaos Realm even though it was supposed to be a lost cause.
And now, they’re here. Nicholas just casually revealed to them that, very soon, both the Black Pegasus and Crimson Womb Chaos Realm would be ripe for the taking. And they’re planning to bring them in for the development of those two chaos realms.
How could this not surprise him?
Actually, now that he’s paying attention, it looks like Fleet Admiral Hector Ashborn wasn’t surprised by this.
"Am I right to assume that the Space Marines have already secured the perimeter of those two chaos realms?" he asked.
Nicholas’ eyes locked into his before nodding in confirmation.
"Yes. We already sent teams to build defense lines on the dimensional gaps of both chaos realms. We wanted to secure the areas to make sure that creatures from other chaos realms wouldn’t know the real status of the realms we’re trying to secure and cause problems."
"I see. That’s good." Ilya nodded.
His thoughts were already whirring with ideas. Calculations, prices, designs, etc. were flooding his brain.
This was huge, monumental even! Humans colonizing three out of the Five Known Chaos Realms? If this were to be known by the creatures of other Chaos Realms, there would be a goddamn riot!
But, even though Ilya was a merchant at heart, his loyalty lies with humanity. The Silverspoon Clan is a human clan. The Golden Bangle Bank was founded in Great Terra—humanity’s true home world. And they had always aligned their interests alongside that of humanity.
Their inclusivity to other creatures, tribes, and races is purely for the sake of profit. Hell, the intelligence division of their nation was born out of the survival needs of humanity.
Before the War of Sovereignty, it was the intelligence network of the bank that allowed humans to save themselves from ambushes, schemes, traps, etc. of other races. It’s because of their inclusivity that they manage to worm their way into the deepest and darkest secrets of their enemies, allowing humanity’s growth to remain steadfast and secure.
Ilya shook his head briefly and scolded himself for counting the chicks before they even hatched. Although the expected profits of this collaboration looked more than promising, Ilya was never one to lower his guard.
There’s no way the Human Sovereigns were doing this out of the kindness of their hearts. Ilya had been a merchant long enough to know that there are no eternal friends, only eternal interests.
Contrary to him, though...
"Two chaos realms...so much space to work...so many creations...!"
Norman Rockwood, the eccentric guild master of the Makers Guild, was nearly foaming at the mouth at the sheer scale of the workload right before him.
No, he’s not reacting like this out of fear, nor is the exhaustion already rearing its ugly head for him. This was Norman being, well, his eccentric self.
The guy was practically vibrating on his seat, practically imploding in the impatience to start right away.
Hell, if it weren’t because the sovereigns haven’t dismissed them yet, Norman would’ve already run to either of the two and begun working on his projects already.
Ilya sighed...
Sometimes, he envied Norman’s simple-mindedness and single-track passion. If only things could be that simple for him too. Alas, the responsibilities he’s carrying are just too heavy, and he’s got nobody to share them with.
Everybody who tried couldn’t even last for a decade before surrendering.
Ilya doesn’t just have the weight of a nation on his shoulders; he’s also carrying the burden of a legacy that’s way larger than his own life.
As for Fleet Admiral Hector, well...he needs a vacation...retirement, even. The dude looks like he’s barely clinging to reality as is. His eyes looked as if he could see things that others couldn’t.
Why is it even in service still? According to Ilya’s memories, Hector was almost as old as the sovereigns were, and he had been in the army since he was old enough to join.
If you ask him, Hector had, more than enough, earned his retirement.
Well, that’s not really Ilya’s business. He’s just...concerned, that’s all. For all he knew, maybe it was Hector who insisted on staying on duty.
Either way, there are still a lot of things to discuss, and he better keep his mind sharp.
His sincere admiration aside, it’s in Ilya’s blood to make sure he comes out on top of a deal. If he couldn’t, then his position as the president of the Golden Bangle Nation might as well be useless.
