Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking-Chapter 527: That familiar space
--
Cedric sat in front of his desk, reading through the entries of the participants about their experiences so far.
Unanimously, it was terrible for them, which is understandable. Vaginal infections feel horrible even with immediate treatment afterwards. However, it’s also in these entries that the personality of each participant becomes clear to Cedric.
Some wrote their entries in a lukewarm manner—very casual, neither excited nor upset, just going through the motions. Some were skeptical, which is, again, understandable. And others were staying positive, at least as much as they could, despite the pain they were forced to endure.
There’s also a visible difference between the way they described the ordeal. Some wrote a mere summary; others almost wrote an entire novel about the experience, using a lot of explanations and metaphors to vividly describe what they felt; even the minute details weren’t spared in their writings. It made Cedric think if he should limit the word count in this.
Among the entries of the participants, a few stood out to Cedric.
There were seven people that he had his eye on. Four of them came from ’The Six,’ and the rest came from other races that are not really that famous in the alliance.
The reason why they got his attention was because in their entries, they described a particular sensation that Cedric found familiar.
It’s the same instance where his consciousness arrived at a vast expanse of nothingness. It was a vivid memory for Cedric because that’s where he found the spark that led him to the path to Ancient Chaos.
In that space, his consciousness remained intact while still vividly aware of what’s happening to his physical body. He had no idea how he arrived there. It would be more accurate to say that he was pulled into that space by a mysterious force.
The experiences of these people weren’t as vivid or as long as Cedric’s was. In fact, they just had a glimpse of it. They described it as ’blanking out’ for a bit or having their consciousness leave their bodies briefly before returning to reality. Nevertheless, even though it was only brief, it’s still roughly the same as what Cedric felt, which was enough for him to think that this entire operation was somehow working.
Still, this isn’t enough just yet. Even though these particular participants encountered the same thing, they’re still far from his requirements. Unless they could endure the erosion of the Void for 12 hours straight, he wouldn’t let them go through the next stage even though they could already sense that empty space.

And so, the project continued...
In the first week of the project, the longest record of void exposure was held by those from the Wise Dragon Clan, which didn’t surprise anybody because dragons are truly loved by the realm. The toughest one was able to endure five hours and some minutes before needing treatment. And for the first week of this project, this was incredibly impressive, especially considering that this one hasn’t experienced void exposure before.
The close second was three hours, and this one was held surprisingly by somebody from the Divine Celestial Race. There’s also someone from the Ancient Titan Race that came really close, just a few minutes away from reaching the third hour.
As for the rest, they could only last for an hour up to an hour and a half at most.
But whether it’s the top three or the bottom three, none of them were praised, encouraged, or scolded by Cedric. He remained neutral, so much that it would even seem that he’s indifferent about it. It’s as if to him, none of them were impressive enough. He just did as he usually does.
As weeks passed, some participants were lasting longer while others were barely making any progress. But no matter how fast or slow they adjusted to the challenges presented to them, Cedric remained stoic from beginning to end. He just recorded their progress and told them to proceed as usual. Even though some were almost ready to enter the next stage of this project, he still remained indifferent.
His attitude caused the participants to be confused, especially since in his indifference, none of them could tell what he’s thinking most of the time. It was unnerving to them, and it also caused them to develop some form of fear towards him, especially whenever those golden eyes of his begin inspecting them from head to toe as if he’s trying to see through all of their secrets.
Contrary to what they believe, Cedric’s actually impressed; he’s just not showing it. He didn’t want to give any of them preferential treatment because of their small success. Cedric didn’t want to inflate their ego, especially not when they’re not even close to the real challenge yet.
Too much confidence brought by excessive ego will lead to their deaths, and frankly, Cedric didn’t want to have anything to do with that. That’s why he always maintained a disciplined expression whenever he was around them.
As time passed, though, more and more people were starting to slip into that mysterious space of nothingness. Those who already did found themselves being in there for longer. This was a good sign, and it shows that the project was starting to show some real progress.
But while Cedric feels great about how the project was going, he couldn’t help but feel worried...
Worried because the Void has been awfully silent and peaceful lately...
It’s important to know that every camp essentially lost their means of measuring the void density outside the walls since the birth of the Void Prince.
They’ve tried to send out more machines and gadgets that will help them re-establish their means of predicting the void’s movement, but none worked at all. All the equipment that they’ve tried sending or installing out there ends up getting destroyed or malfunctioning after a short while. At this point, the Border Patrol Office has ran out of options and could only hope for the best.
The only reliance they have was Cedric’s means. He was, after all, able to seal the gates and tears all over the walls with his runic formation and seals. And even though it’s not a permanent fix, it still works; that’s what’s important.
That said, it is rather shameful for the office to rely on just one person, one that’s specifically under a lot of pressure because he was different.
Cedric doesn’t really see it that way, but he gets it. This isn’t the first time that he has had to carry a massive burden, after all.
But it’s also because of this that he’s worried, because the void has been silent for a while.
All things considered, the Void Prince should be raving for revenge right now. An arrogant creature like him shouldn’t be able to endure such humiliation and defeat. It must be eating him alive from the inside to endure one more day without getting his revenge.
And yet, months passed since he last invaded with his minions, and Cedric has yet to feel his ominous presence returning.
Was this a sign of forbearance or indifference from the other party? Honestly, he doesn’t know what to think.
The temporary seals he placed on the gates and the gaps on the wall are still in place. He specifically left a mechanism in them that would alarm him if even a single one was destroyed by a third party. That alarm had yet to be triggered, which means that all of the seals are still in place. And even after paying close attention to their links to him and remembering how many he installed as he counted them each night, he’s yet to discover any form of tampering or disconnection.

Although it’s a bit weird to be worried about the world being too peaceful, Cedric just couldn’t bring himself to relax or to let his guard down. In fact, he’s even more alert lately because, begrudgingly, his opinion about the Void Prince was rising.
If that creature can truly endure loss and exhibit patience, then he’s a far more deadlier threat to them than they could ever imagine.
Alas, there’s nothing he could do at the moment. He’s not strong enough to take a casual stroll in the void just to check things out. He could only worry for now and try his best to pay attention to other matters.
That said, he did inform the chancellors and the paragons about it, just to make sure that they would be prepared in case of emergency. It’s just right since the camps just received an influx to their population, making some operations faster than before.
Cedric himself didn’t neglect his skills and cultivation. Despite leading the Ancient Chaos Alpha project, he ensures that he has sufficient time to improve himself while also thinking of other ways to provide help for the camp.

He is under a lot of pressure, but he’s used to it.
For now, though, he had to focus. Especially since some people from the project have finally completed the first step of the project.
