Empire Building With Infinite Warehouse-Chapter 74: Ash-Weaving Spider
[Are you sure?]
Julien tapped yes.
But before the system could process the request and finalise the summons, he added one more command.
"Bind me with it. Just like the shadow beast."
Chris turned his head fast.
He was not as expressive since he was under the influence of a potion, but his blue eyes widened with genuine concern as he looked at Julien.
"That is risky," Chris warned, his voice tight with worry.
Julien looked at his friend.
He remembered the last time he merged with a summon.
The shadow creature almost tore his human mind apart and left him cold and empty.
But he also knew the Ash Weaver Spider had the exact utility they needed to win this fight.
A physical summon would just get crushed by the telekinesis.
They needed mobility with a trap.
"We don’t know how helpful the beast will be on its own. This boss can’t be fought with just another beast running around blindly."
"I won’t lose myself like last time," Julien said, forcing a small, tired smile.
"Trust me."
Chris stared at him.
He was at a loss for words for a few heavy moments and looked at the monster tearing the street apart, listening to the screams of the remaining fighters.
Then he looked back at the merchant.
Finally, he gave a slow nod.
The system text shifted and glowed brighter.
[Forming contract.]
[Summoning the beast.]
[The beast has accepted the contract.]
Polyphemus did not wait for Julien to finish his glowing transaction.
The giant boss raised its leg to crush the area where they stood.
But the other surviving hunters in District 5 moved first.
They were terrified, but they realised something crucial about the monster’s terrifying power.
It needed to actually see its targets to crush them with its mind.
The giant eye was its main weapon and its biggest weak spot.
A desperate battle cry echoed down the ruined street.
Hunters started attacking the beast from all sides to stay out of its direct line of sight as they scrambled over the broken cars and pavement.
One brave hunter jumped from the top of a ruined four-story building and landed hard on the creature’s back, driving his spear deep into the tough grey skin.
Another group of fighters focused on its lower half.
They swung heavy axes and swords, climbing up its newly formed legs to slash at its joints.
It was exactly like ants trying to bring down an elephant.
The beast barely even reacted to the physical strikes.
The tough skin did not even bleed.
Down the street, a group of surviving mages gathered their remaining energy and prepared a joint attack spell, chanting together until a huge ball of condensed fire and ice formed in the air.
They launched it right at the monster.
The spell soared through the air, aimed perfectly at the giant eye.
The eye simply darted toward the magic, and the spell stopped dead in its tracks the moment it entered the monster’s vision.
Then it reversed.
The fire and ice shot back into the crowd of mages, exploding and sending them flying into the streets.
Nothing could cause the creature any real damage.
Physical weapons bounced off.
Magic was redirected right after reaching near it.
The hunters were just buying time with their lives.
Chris stood his ground, gripping his Ruin Knight sword tight.
Julien reached into his coat and pulled out another Berserker potion.
He handed it to the blonde tank.
"Your body can’t handle more," Julien warned him, his voice serious.
"It has to," Chris replied.
Julien smiled one last time before the system took over his body.
The black pupils in Julien’s eyes suddenly vanished, replaced by a terrifying white light.
[Ash Weaver Spider has been summoned. Integration beginning.]
The physical changes hit Julien hard and fast.
His skin started burning as if he had been thrown into a blazing forest.
He dropped to his knees, letting out a loud gasp.
His bones cracked and shifted under his skin.
Thick, dark, thorn-like structures tore through the flesh on his forearms, forming weird cover.
His vision warped entirely.
The world splintered into dozens of different angles.
He was getting a view from multiple directions all at once, seeing the heat signatures of the rubble and the panicked hunters.
Something heavy and sharp sprouted directly from his back, tearing his dress to shreds.
Chris watched him change.
He gripped his sword tightly, unsure which mind had actually taken over the body as he remembered Julien’s promise, but the thing kneeling on the ground did not look human anymore.
Julien slowly raised his head.
His human features were gone.
Multiple dark, unblinking eyes covered his face, tracking every single movement in the street.
His soft skin had hardened into a tough, chitinous armor that ripped his clothes apart.
Two long, twitching antennae sprouted from the back of his head, tasting the dusty air.
Before Chris could even talk, the spider hybrid moved.
The speed was terrifying.
Chris barely had time to wonder what was happening before he felt something wet and incredibly sticky hit his stomach.
It was a thick rope of spider web that was firmly wrapped around his abdomen.
Julien shot toward the nearest intact skyscraper.
He hit the vertical glass and concrete and just kept running.
He climbed the tall building exactly like an insect, his new clawed hands and feet pasting deep into the structure.
Chris was pulled right off his feet.
"What-" Chris yelled as he was dragged into the air.
Julien pulled the heavy tank up the side of the building effortlessly.
The strange pair reached the top of the skyscraper within minutes.
The wind howled around them as they stood high above the ruined city, looking directly at the grey monster crushing the hunters below.
Julien did not waste a single second.
He grabbed the thick web line attached to Chris and started spinning.
He swung the blonde tank around in a wide, dizzying circle, building up an insane amount of momentum.
The G force was crushing, but the Berserker potion kept Chris awake and focused.
Then, Julien let go.
He threw Chris from the top of the web at an incredible speed directly toward the giant eye of the beast.
Chris flew through the air like a human missile.
He gritted his teeth. His blue aura came to life, burning like a raging fire around his armour.
He poured every last drop of his energy into the Ruin Knight sword.
The heavy blade brightened with blinding blue mana in full force, aimed to stab dead centre into the monster’s pupil.
Swoosh.
Chris cut through the wind.
He was only a few feet away from the target.
Then, he stopped.
The giant eye had twitched upward as it locked onto the falling hunter.
Chris felt the crushing pressure grab his body mid-air.
He could not move forward. His body was stuck hovering just out of striking distance, and the pupil was dilating.
The beast was preparing to reverse the kinetic force and shoot Chris into the clouds.
High above them on the building, Julien jumped.
The spider hybrid dove off the edge of the building.
As he fell through the open air, Julien opened his mouth and spat a huge volley of glowing green acid.
The corrosive spit rained down like bullets.
It splashed directly onto the skin of the monster’s face.
The beast shrieked in pain as the acid burned deep into its flesh, melting the tough hide and smoking in the air.
This sudden, burning agony broke the monster’s concentration as the giant eye squeezed shut in pain, losing its line of sight.
The telekinetic hold on Chris snapped.
Gravity took over right away.
Chris started falling straight down toward the ground far below, missing the monster entirely.
But Julien was already there.
Falling through the air right beside him, Julien shot another thick line of web.
It caught Chris around the chest and used his own falling momentum, spun in mid air, and whipped Chris back upward like a deadly pendulum.
He redirected the tank right back at the beast.
Chris roared, gripping the sword with both hands.
The monster forced its burned eye open, but it was too late.
It did not have time to focus its power again.
Chris crashed into the creature.
The bright blue blade of the Ruin Knight sword pierced the giant eye dead centre.
It sank all the way to the hilt, burying the magic deep into the brain of the boss.
