Elder Kinston's Exclusive Sweet Wife-Chapter 946 - 984: An Unexpected Encounter
Mabel Quinn had no choice but to stand at the restroom door, asking a Tavern staff member to check if anyone was inside. When she was told no one was there, Mabel went to the lounge area but didn’t see anyone either. Just as she felt puzzled, she suddenly saw Adrian Conley on the other side of the door at the stairway’s safety passage.
Mabel walked a few steps quickly, intending to push open the door and call out to Mr. Conley, but through the glass on the door, she saw the figure of Kyle Kinston.
Kyle... why is he with Alice’s father? Mabel wondered. The next moment, Mr. Conley’s alarmed voice, filled with pleading, rang out, "I... I haven’t told them anything. I only told my wife that I’m going on a year-long business trip. By then, I’ll find another reason to leave them. In any case, after a few days, once I leave, I won’t meet with them again. It’s just... my daughter is already over five months pregnant. After I leave, I hope I can occasionally call home, so they won’t be too worried. After my daughter’s child is born, I... I won’t call anymore..."
Mabel was shocked. What was going on? Why would Mr. Conley say such things?
But what surprised her more was Kyle’s voice, so cold, saying, "What you’re asking for is too much, Adrian Conley. At this point, what qualifications do you have to ask so much of me?"
"I know, all the fault is mine, and I have no right to ask for anything... just have pity on the unborn child in Alice’s belly. That child... you saved too. I just hope Alice won’t be affected and that the child can be born safely..." Mr. Conley pleaded.
Kyle seemed to be in deep thought, and suddenly, he glanced sharply in Mabel’s direction, pushing the passage door open. The three of them instantly saw each other fully.
In each other’s eyes, all three were astonished. Finally, Mabel was the first to speak, "What’s going on here?"
"Nothing," Kyle said. "How did you end up here?"
"Auntie said to find Uncle to toast with the relatives, so I came out looking for him," Mabel replied. "But just now, why was Uncle pleading with you? What were you discussing?"
She was utterly confused by what she’d overheard. It felt as though Mr. Conley was being blackmailed by Kyle, forced to leave his wife and daughter. It was all very strange.
"Mabel..." Mr. Conley looked pale, his expression aged considerably, "Please, don’t tell Alice and her mother about this. Just think of it as a favor to Uncle. You know Alice’s health condition now; she can’t take any shocks."
Afraid that this unexpected change would cause Kyle to change his mind and harm his wife and daughter, he quickly instructed Mabel, then said awkwardly, "Well... Mr. Kinston, I... I want to return to the banquet hall."
Kyle pressed his thin lips together without saying a word.
Mr. Conley looked embarrassed, glanced at Mabel once, and then left the passageway.
Mabel looked at Kyle and asked, "What was that about just now?"
"This is something you shouldn’t get involved in," Kyle said. "Just pretend you didn’t see or hear anything."
