Mabel felt the same way; she envied the atmosphere in Alice’s family, perhaps because it was something she and Kyle lacked.

"In the future, our home will be like this," she said to him. "There will be me, and our... well, adopted children, and we’ll be a happy and harmonious family."

His expression seemed to recognize something as he lowered his gaze, his long lashes almost covering all of his eyes. "Seeing Alice pregnant, do you feel envious?"

"Ah?" She paused, then realized the implication of his words. "I do feel envious, but not lost," she answered truthfully. "If we really can’t have our own children, then we’ll give this love to our adopted kids. In foreign countries, many adopt unrelated orphans, and those families are equally beautiful and warm."

He slowly raised his eyes to look at her. "Mabel, even if there are no children, I will make sure you become a happy woman."

"Mm, I believe you," she said with a smile, trusting that he would bring her happiness!

Because of Alice Conley’s pregnancy, most of the writing work for the new microfilm fell to Mabel Quinn. Any attempt by Alice to take on more was declined by Mabel.
