Chapter 878: Chapter 914: Turns Out I Still Care

This made him chuckle involuntarily.

Mabel Quinn felt a bit awkward. Well, she knew that wearing this hat was pretty comical, but she only put it on while cleaning.

"Uh... why don’t you wear it too?" she said, "After all, it’s just the two of us here, no one else will see you wearing it."

"True," he said, bending down, lowering his head to almost the same level as her gaze.

Uh... is he expecting her to put it on for him?

Just as she was dazing off, he said, "Hurry up, we still need to finish cleaning in a bit."

She snapped back to reality and quickly put the hat on him. Mabel Quinn realized that handsome people can make even the ugliest hats look stylish.

Clearly, their hats were the same, but while she looked like a clown wearing it, he looked like a runway model with a vintage fashion trend.

"What is it? Does it look bad?" Seeing her dazed look, he couldn’t help but ask.

Bad? Mabel Quinn felt a tiny bit heartbroken; she’s the one who looks bad! "No, definitely not bad." After saying that, she promptly picked up a broom and started sweeping.

Kyle Kinston smiled and also started cleaning along.

Because of the auction, even the personal items in this house were moved out, making it feel quite empty.

But the furniture and such were still there.

"I wonder what dad would think if he were still alive and saw the house like this." As they almost finished cleaning, Mabel Quinn looked at the house she grew up in, unable to hold back her sigh.

"Alright, stop overthinking. Your father would understand you," Kyle Kinston said.

Kyle Kinston checked the time; they had been cleaning the whole morning, and it was already almost one o’clock. "Let’s find a place nearby to eat first, then come back to wrap up."

As he spoke and was about to put on his coat, Mabel Quinn suddenly tugged at the corner of his jacket and said, "Kyle, really... thank you."

He looked down at her and said, "You already said thank you last night."

"The feelings then were a bit different from now," she said. "I used to think I could not care about this house because dad’s no longer here, and with all the family disputes and troubles, keeping this house would only add to the sadness. But..."

She paused, "While cleaning, I realized I still care. I care about this house because it once was the home my father gave me."

If I lose this house, it feels like I’d be completely rootless... even though this home is not my real home, even if my father and I have no blood relation, I still see myself as his daughter.

"So, I want to thank you. Thank you for not leaving me with any regrets," Mabel Quinn said, then took a deep breath. "Alright, let’s go eat. I’m starving."

After voicing her thoughts, she seemed to feel much lighter.

When they finally walked out of the apartment and reached downstairs, they saw a timid figure lingering at the entrance of the hallway.
