"It’s fine, you’re different," Daxton smiled. "My parents asked me what I think of you, I said really good, then they kept pushing me to ask you out again, so I tried giving you a call. Luckily, you agreed, otherwise my parents might’ve dragged me to your door today to ask you out."

Alice was startled by his exaggeration. "Not that extreme, are your parents... uh, really that eager to separate you from that person?"

Daxton’s eyes darkened, "Yes, they really want to, although I’ve been trying hard, but..."

"Maybe if you hang in there a bit longer, your parents will agree," Alice comforted. "In the short term, I don’t mind being your shield." But once her belly started to show, she probably wouldn’t be able to be a shield anymore.

"Thank you, Alice. You really are a good woman," Daxton said. "Sometimes, it really feels like wanting to love someone without reservations is so hard in this world."

"Sure," Alice said confidently, posing for Daxton to take a photo.
