Educated Youth in the Countryside: She is the Village's Embroidery Queen!-Chapter 91: Secondary Injury
The fabric was green, and the clothes were a dirt yellow.
Yi Chichi looked at the size and position of the tear, then got to work with scissors snipping away.
Qin Jiu watched as she cut the green fabric into strange shapes and asked in confusion, "Aunt, are you making a patch?"
"I’m sewing you two little frogs."
The child, half-understanding, let out an "Oh."
He watched her sew the frogs while nibbling on a cake.
Yi Chichi was quick; it took her about ten minutes to cut and sew the two patches.
Then, she threaded the needle, outlining the frogs’ eyes and the patterns on their backs.
Qin Jiu’s eyes slowly widened in shock as he looked at the vividly lifelike frogs on the clothes.
This, why did it look like two frogs were lying on the clothes?
And they were two chubby frogs.
He swallowed his saliva and blurted out shockingly, "Aunt, I want to eat frog!"
Yi Chichi, "??? Eat what?"
She doubted her hearing.
"Frog!"
Hearing the child’s answer, she looked up at him, then at the two frog patches on the clothes. After two seconds of silence, she sighed, cut the thread, and handed the clothes to him.
"There’s no frog to eat, just look at the patches to satisfy your cravings."
In the dead of winter, where could she get a frog for the little kid?
And frogs to eat, why not say he wants to eat dragon meat next.
Seeing the kid hugging the clothes and smiling at her, Yi Chichi patted his head, "Keep yourself entertained. Aunt has to go now. I’ll see you next time. Remember to read and write, study hard."
"... I’ll see Aunt off!"
Despite his reluctance to see Yi Chichi leave, the child sensibly put down the clothes he was holding and escorted her to the side door.
"Aunt is leaving now."
"Okay."
Yi Chichi hugged him, then in the child’s unwilling gaze, slipped away.
Just as she reached the foot of the mountain, she heard a loud cry from above.
Hearing the noise, Yi Chichi instinctively looked in the direction it came from and was startled.
Liu Dongmei’s mother was rolling down the slope, with Liu Dongmei frantically yelling for her to catch hold. Upon seeing Yi Chichi, she urgently said, "Chichi! Chichi! Quickly stop my mom..."
That was indeed impossible to stop.
Not to mention Liu Dongmei’s mother’s hefty and stocky build was beyond what she could handle, just the distance alone made it impossible to intercept in time.
So, she could only muster all her strength to rush to Aunt Xiuzhen, who had hit the snow pile heavily and was moaning in pain, to check on her and said, fine, take her to the commune.
"Dongmei, quickly go back and call your father and the others to take her to the commune."
"What’s the matter?!"
Liu Dongmei, in a great hurry, ran down the slope, slipped magnificently, and despite having fallen, couldn’t care about her dog fur hat that had fallen off and ran over.
"Her arm is either dislocated or broken."
"Mom, is your arm broken?"
Liu Dongmei was shocked, and Aunt Xiuzhen, who was pale from pain, was at a loss with her daughter’s temperament.
"Quickly go back and get your dad and the others, also get Yaozi along."
"Alright, I’ll go right now."
Liu Dongmei ran back immediately, then suddenly braked and came back, "Chichi, can you help look after my mom?"
Yi Chichi nodded in agreement, and Liu Dongmei finally felt assured and left like a gust of wind.
"Aunt, don’t sit on the ground, stand up first."
She extended a hand to help her up. There was snow on the ground, cold, and the sun had been decent these past few days, causing the snow to still be melting.
If she didn’t get up, her pants would get wet.
Aunt Xiuzhen stood up with her help, bearing the pain, and thanked her, "Thank you, Yi Zhqing."
"You’re welcome."
Yi Chichi supported her in slowly moving out, puzzled, "Aunt, why did you and Dongmei go up the mountain?"
"Earlier, Dongmei’s dad set some traps on the mountain; we wanted to check if there were any prey."
In the end, there was no prey, but she did fall down.
And her arm got injured on top of that.
"Sigh!"
She sighed deeply and said, "Such bad luck, truly too unlucky!"
Yi Chichi didn’t think of it as bad luck; it was purely asking for it.
In this weather, old hunters wouldn’t even enter the mountain, yet Liu Dongmei and her mother just dashed into the mountain like iron-heads, it was sheer idiocy.
But such words weren’t appropriate to say, so she could only grumble silently, but outwardly showed consolation with a gesture that appeared to be indeed unlucky, comforting her, "Fortunately, there’s no major issue. It’d be better to be more cautious next time."
"Wasn’t her arm said to be broken?"
Qian Xiuzhen’s focus was different; her mind was entirely on the phrase ’no major issue.’
Yi Chichi twitched her mouth slightly, "Breaking an arm or leg isn’t a major issue as long as the head isn’t hit."
Skeletal injuries at most need a hundred days; if she hit her head against a rock on the mountain, a concussion would be minor. It wouldn’t be surprising if her life ended then and there.
So, "Aunt, you’re really lucky, just missed hitting the stone by a tiny margin."
She almost hit the stone?
Qian Xiuzhen couldn’t help but glance back at the place she had fallen and immediately felt a chill, for it was indeed a large stone.
Her legs went weak, and she felt a icy chill through her body.
"So dangerous, almost dead!"
Her face was white as she mumbled, Yi Chichi nodded, "Indeed, next time don’t go running up the mountains in the middle of winter."
"No more running, never again."
Compared to life, those prey in the traps weren’t that enticing.
"What are you doing here?"
Yi Chichi’s mind paused for a moment, Oh no, what should she say?
Her mind turned, and her eyes went red, "I’m in a bad mood, just needed some air."
"Why are you in a bad mood?"
Gossip piqued, arm pain became easy to overlook.
Qian Xiuzhen was now in a state of wanting to devour gossip so much that she barely felt any pain in her arm.
"With the New Year coming, the letters-of-assignment received by the educated youths in the courtyard, but I received nothing."
She sniffled, resting her head in a sorrowful pose, her voice slightly choking.
"Your parents..."
Qian Xiuzhen had just started when she remembered the rumors about Yi Chichi’s parents being gone, immediately feeling regret wanting to smack herself.
There were so many things to say, why on earth did she uncontrollably ask about the kid’s parents.
Opening her mouth intending to apologize, a bustling voice came in.
"Zhen, how come your arm and leg are both broken, I told you not to go up the mountain, now look, crippled..."
Liu Changlin rushed over like a gust of wind, with the panting Liu Dongmei and her brother and uncles trailing behind.
Uncle Yaozi was also among the running crowd, not by choice but being dragged along by Liu Dongmei’s older brother Liu Yuan.
Liu Changlin’s speed was truly fast; he almost appeared in front of Yi Chichi and Qian Xiuzhen in the blink of an eye.
"Don’t come over, snap..."
Qian Xiuzhen cried out in shock, trying to stop.
But it was too late, Liu Changlin’s large iron-like hand fell accurately on her arm, causing a crisp sound with a second injury.
Oh crap, it seemed he had messed up his wife’s arm again?
Liu Changlin released his grip nervously, "Wife, are you alright?"
"Do I look alright?"
Qian Xiuzhen was furious.
