Chapter 313: Impossible feat

Chapter 313.

Another city. Another continent.

Crowds gathered near the gate, trembling. Breath snagged in their throats. Some stumbled backward, some collapsed to their knees outright, hands shaking as if the air itself had become poison.

Because in front of their city stood something no sane person ever wanted to see.

Space twisted like it was melting. The ground felt wrong underfoot. The temperature dipped and spiked as if the world had caught a fever. And at the center of it all, pulsing with a pale, sickly glow, was a portal.

Not blue.

Not green.

Not yellow. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Red.

A red portal. The nightmare of every continent. The kind that didn’t wait weeks or days. The kind that broke fast and killed faster.

Two days had already passed since it appeared. Which meant the chances of it breaking now were sky high.

If it did, the number of dead would be beyond counting. And this city... this city was filled with mundanes and low rankers. They had no chance. No power. No time.

The hero association had been contacted, but with portals erupting everywhere, their forces were stretched so thin they were practically bleeding. And the tension in the air... it was getting heavier every second.

People cried. People prayed. People cursed fate. But none of that mattered. A red portal didn’t care about hope. It only cared about breaking.

A small group of heroes stepped forward. Weapons ready. Ten of them. Mostly C rankers. One B ranker among them, an older man, the city mayor himself.

He forced a brave smile.

"We will close the portal. Fear not. No harm will come to any of you. I promise."

His voice was warm. Too warm. Warm enough to break hearts. Because everyone knew that if he and his men entered a red portal, they were already dead. They just hadn’t fallen yet.

But what choice did they have.

What options existed.

The answer was simple.

None.

They could only watch as the ten heroes stepped toward the glowing red mouth of death.

But just before their feet crossed the threshold, a voice cut through the panic. Calm. Firm. Certain.

"Your courage is admirable. But leave this to me."

A figure appeared from what looked like thin air. Dressed in black. Long black hair flowing behind him. His presence quiet but absolute, as if the air bent around him.

He didn’t spare the city a glance. Didn’t even look at the heroes standing at the edge of death.

His eyes were locked on the portal alone.

He stepped forward, raised both hands, and gripped the red portal by its edges.

Like he intended to tear it apart with his bare hands.

He stepped forward, stretched out his hands, and grabbed the portal by its edges. One hand on the left side. One hand on the right. A soft golden glow bled from his palms, slow but terrifying in its calm.

Then something impossible happened.

Right in front of the heroes, the man pulled his hands together... and the red portal folded shut. No explosion. No fight. No boss monster. No slaughter.

He closed a portal like someone closing a door.

Just like that.

Everyone went silent. Visibly stunned. No one in history had ever seen something like this. No one had ever thought it was even possible. Yet here they were, watching a red portal collapse from nothing but two human hands.

Insane didn’t even begin to cover it.

The unknown figure stepped back and seemed to vanish again, disappearing for the second time. As if he was some kind of angel who descended, saved them, and returned to wherever angels hid.

The city froze. No one moved. No one breathed.

A member of the squad forced himself to speak.

"Wait. Tell me what I saw was just a dream."

"No. I don’t think so," another whispered. His voice cracked.

"Did we just see a literal god?" someone else asked, trembling.

Their leader shook his head, a small smile tugging at his lips. A happy, almost reverent smile.

"We cannot call him a god. Although I am not certain... I believe we have just seen the Gold Walker. The number one hero on the planet."

Every breath in the area stopped at once. The words echoed in their skulls like a shockwave.

The Gold Walker.

---

Hundreds of kilometers away, at the edge of a mountain cliff, the Gold Walker stood alone. He gazed into the distant sky, his face calm and unbearably beautiful. His eyes glowed with golden light, but his expression was somber.

His fist clenched slightly.

"All these portals opening... it means a violent battle must have broken out. Looks like they managed to hold it off." His voice carried a quiet weight. "I am sorry, Beast. Flame. And you... Tyler. Seeing how well you are all holding up without me... I am grateful."

He stared into the distance.

"I will be back soon. But first, I need to catch that monster. He must be taken down. For years you have hidden in the shadows, but now that you are finally moving... I will find you. And I will drag you into justice for the countless lives you destroyed."

His face darkened. Anger simmered beneath the golden glow.

"I am coming for you, Marcus."

To be continued.....
