Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 753: Europe Part 1
After spending several hours in a flooded chamber without the ability to even speak took a toll on the hunters' psyche, except for Marina who was able to see, breathe and even move freely under water. However, Uriel did find a way to keep himself busy as, although it was just an ante chamber, he was inside a dungeon and was able to read the carvings on the walls.
It wasn't much in the sense that he didn't get any new data to further his research, but he got the confirmation he needed about some of his suspicions. Copying the carvings was impossible while they remained below the surface since any notepad he summoned would have gotten wet and the mystical carvings would not appear on any electronic device and he found himself missing Sam's eidetic memory.
When the island finally emerged, both hunting parties were shocked to find they were now close to land. Not another island, but a continent.
"Thank you." Luna said to which the island replied in a hurry.
"I told you I would figure it out, now go. I can't stay here for much longer or they will see me."
Prompted by the island's words a new sense of urgency emerged in those present and no one even thought of asking who 'they' might be. If it meant cryptids, hunters or something in between it didn't change the fact that they needed to escape.
"I will come visit some time, but since you can move it might take me a while to find you." Luna stood by Atlantis beach while the rest of the hunters were already swimming for the other shore.
"That won't be a problem. I hold power over the dreamscape, just look for me in your sleep and we will be able to communicate."
After reaching the other shore Luna watched the island disappear in the horizon. If she was sad it was impossible to tell judging by her emotionless face, or that would be the case if she wasn't bawling her eyes out.
"It's not fair," She said. "why do you get to keep your Ocelotl and I can't keep my island?"
"Because..." Uriel entertained the possibility of shrugging her off, but dismissing her feelings on one of the rare occasions where she was able to genuinely show them felt wrong. "of their size probably."
"Luna, there's not comparison between a jaguar and an entire fucking island! Even if you can't summon it, your pet is way cooler than Uriel's." Nika said.
"It's not a pet..." Luna's eyes widened as she realized she found herself saying the same thing Uriel repeatedly said and Uriel nodded knowingly at her. "it's a friend."
"I'm sorry to interrupt such a moving moment, but we really need to get moving. There's no way to tell where we are, how to get to a city or what kind of danger we are currently in." Hazel butted in.
"I'm absolutely certain we are now in the Iberian peninsula since we can see Africa to the south and if the myth of Atlantis holds true, then we must be in Gibraltar." Uriel replied, then continued. "I can't detect any flux signature which means we should be safe for the time being and about how to get to a city, that's pretty easy. We should just look for tall walls."
"Huh, actually, that's not precise," Nika said mimicking Uriel's know it all attitude. "last time I visited Europe there weren't any walls or megacities."
"Are they not worried about being attacked by cryptids?" Luna tilted her head.
"They sure are, but most holy rank hunters live here. Instead of a passive defense, they actively search for cryptids to kill." Nika replied leaving Uriel astonished.
"Are you being serious right now? You've known this all this time and never mentioned it?"
"I didn't think it was that important... oh." Nika seemed to realize something and was about to speak, but Uriel shushed her and turned to Hazel.
"We made it safely here, but I think it's better if we go our own way now. By going together we would only draw more heat from cryptids and hunters alike."
"Sounds fair, I wish you good luck." Hazel replied and turned to leave along with the rest of the Defenders.
"Thanks for everything." Kristina nodded at Luna before parting, though among the group the one who seemed most affected by being separated from the Dungeon Raiders was the bald man who went in to hug Uriel before leaving.
"What is wrong with that dude? Did you know him from before too?" Bella asked, but was ignored by everyone. She didn't understand the sudden shift in the mood and just wanted to make conversation as they made their way inland.
"Luna, what kind of cryptid should we look out for?" Uriel asked.
"I can't be sure, I've never been here before. However, I've found a good indicative of the threat level is the amount of lore about them. Going by that, Gibraltar must be somewhat safe and should be a good starting point. If you want to know about other countries you will have to ask specifically." Luna explained.
"Going by what you said, Spain and Greece should be pretty dangerous." Uriel replied.
"That is correct," Nodded Luna while they walked. "I would like to point out that we don't have a vehicle and it's getting late. It would be a good idea to find some shelter, but it can't be caves, forests, crevasses in the ground, hills, mountains or..."
"So you're saying we should stay out in the open?" Uriel grunted, though Luna dismissed him.
"I'd go scout the place, but I've never visited this place before and I don't feel safe flying. I could guide you all if we make it to England or France, though." Bella butted in.
"Don't worry, no one expected much from you anyway." Nika chuckled.
"Are you always this mean to each other?" Alice blinked a couple times trying to figure out the social dynamic in the company.
"Not always, just when someone acts stupid." Luna replied Making Alice second guess her decision to join the Dungeon Raiders.
