Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 444: Sharp’s decision
The next morning was a cloudy day, a very rare occurrence in the barrenlands and widely considered a bad omen in the hunter community. Contrary to what everyone hoped, Sharp didn't agree to Uriel's request on the spot and instead asked them to think about it until morning.
Once again, she took a reasonable decision but it was realy unfortunate to Uriel who knew the kind of creature that came their way. To know it was there, moving unnoticed in the swamp, but being unable to do anything about it was terrifying. It was the kind of fear Uriel thought he had left in the past, but after catching a glimpse of that impossible enemy he didn't know what to think anymore.
On the good side, Uriel's request had the immediate side effect of getting on the good side with the other two rangers who saw him as their savior. They knew that without Uriel, Sharp wouldn't even consider moving from the outpoost until reinforcements arrived and just the possibility of going back home before that was enough to spark new life into them.
"I've made my mind," Sharp, who evidently didn't bat an eye the whole night, said to Uriel as soon as he got up and then continued. "But I will take you two under my protection until the next crew comes by."
"Miss Sharp, please reconsider. I really need to go back to the city as soon as possible." uriel insisted.

"It's not that I don't want to help you, but your chances of accomplishing your mission will be increased the longer we wait."
'Dammit, I can't argue with her decision making. The only thing I can do is to tell her about the titan, but I doubt she will believe me.' Uriel inwardly cursed.
"Hey, Sharp. Aren't you being overly cautious? We've had few encounters the last few days, isn't it better to go back using the main road and meet the next crew on the way? There's no good reason to stay in this place."
"Alright! I had it with you, Horace. The reason why I want to stay has nothing to do with being a coward, I could go back to the city by myself if I wanted to. The reason we're staying is that I can feel something weird is going on in the swamp and It's of the utmost importance to report it back to the city.
We may die if we stay, but we also may be able to save millions of lives if we manage to bring that information back with us. Or at least, to wait here until the new crew arrives." She explained and only then did her companions seemed to understand their situation.
They were ascended, which is why they had no way of experiencing the same feeling that had been gnawing at her from the back of her head the whole time.
This left a great impression on Uriel, who couldn't help but compare Sharp to all the other people in positions of authority at the Cryptid hunting agency, the rangers and even the military. Without a doubt, she was way more competent than any of them, safe maybe for Cassandra who seemed to be a born leader, but since Uriel knew her on a personal level his impression of her was tainted.
"I understand where you're coming from, but we're going with or without you. I get why you think it's better to stay, but I'll still ask you to reconsider. I'm not in liberty to disclose any information to you, but if you knew what I know, I'm sure you'd accompany us." Uriel did one last attempt at changing Sharp's mind.
While it was true that going back with other hunters was safer in the current circumstances, not just because the barrenlands weren't a safe place but also because by going back with them would allow him to sneak pastthe guards unnoticed.
It was the best scenario possible, but he didn't actually need them. He could still device a way to sneak inside the city without them, but Uriel knew that if they didn't abandon their post they would get caught in the mist by nightfall.
"Fine, if you're so desperate for help, I guess I can't say no. Pack up, we're going out in twenty."
Everyone there, even Uriel who was just getting to know Sharp, knew how stubborn she was and no one understood what made her change her mind. But that was all they wanted, to go back to the city as soon as possible and the two rangers under her command couldn't help but cheer out loud.
She gave them twenty minutes, but in five minutes everyone was ready to move. Everyone except for the wild girl, who still had issues with the idea of decorum and when Uriel asked her to change clothes, she did so in front of everyone which caused a delay in their departure.
She had remained silent the whole time, hiding behind Uriel. It was her first time meeting so many people and she understandably acted all shy. During the night, the other rangers didn't have much to say about her, but once they saw her pristine skin, her shapely body and her innocent demeanor, they started looking at her with different eyes.
"Hey, rookie, did you tap that already?" Horace asked without taking his lecherous eyes from the wild girl, even after she was fully clothed.
Uriel took a moment to think what to say because If she wasn't a holy rank hunter, he might have been worried about her safety, but he knew that she was capable of defending herself if the need arose. The only problem with that was that she was so naive, Uriel suspected that taking advantage of her would be too easy even for those weaklings.
Just when he made up his mind and decided to draw a line, Sharp butted in.
"Cut your crap, she was found inside 'that' lost city. Don't you think she's related to whatever mission was given to this rookie? And if so, don't you think it's too dangerous to even think about laying a hand on her?" After saying that,a Sharp didn't have to give any urther explanation.
They soon understood that even if she was a weakling, the higher ups had an interest on her and it made her even more dangerous than any cryptid they've ever faced.
After setting off, Uriel tried his best to ignore the uncanny feeling that came from behind them but it was increasingly difficult. While riding the jaguar, their speed was far greater than that of the mist and he was confident he'd be able to outrun it, but the jaguar cryptid consumed way more flux energy than he had to spare.
That's why he decided to continue on his way with the rangers even if it meant he had to continue on foot, but now he wondered if it was the right choice.
He lost close to six hours by staying in the outpost and he was unsure if they would be able to reach the city before the fog.
Sharp was experiencing something similar, her heavenly rank sense allowed her to feel the presence of a threat and the general direction, but it felt like a tickle on the back of her head. It was unpleasant to say the least, but the worst part of it all was that she didn't know the nature of that threat.
Perhaps if Uriel told her, she would have been able to move at a greater speed, but the constant feeling of being in danger made her wary of her surroundings which served to slow them down even more.
Moving through the barrenlands was diferent from the swamp, it could be said that walking is easier and hunters don't have the added difficulty of fighting in the mud, but many mysterious creatures lurked at seemingly ordinary places. Some of them mimicked the vegetation while others awaited for prey in the safety of their burrows.
Any step could be their last and the one leading the group was the one taking the highest risk of getting ambushed. This time, that task fell upon Sharp's shoulders, though Uriel wasn't happy with her pacing.
"Can't we hurry up a little bit?" Uriel asked even though he knew it was considered bad manners among hunters. It was her neck on the line, hence it was also her the one who marked the pace and he would have been fine with it on any other day, as long as he didn't have a titan rank cryptid nipping at his heels.
Sharp turned to reply, but instead fell silent when the sight of an infinite mist swallowed the swamp, like a thousand tentacles spreading over the greenery. Her expression petrified and she couldn't even close her mouth, she wished she could scream but no sound escaped her mouth because never in her life had she ever imagined something like that.
"We're doomed..." She muttered after losing all sense of reason.
