Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 208: Rainbow walkers Part 1
The ominous gate closed on its own after Sam crossed it and a marvelous vision was revealed in front of everyone. Rainbows, clouds and green pastures filled with all sorts of beautiful creatures as far as the eye could see, it was nothing short of a dream come true.
In spite of the beautiful scenery, though, the soldiers readied their weapons and formed a defensive line at Ethan’s command. The colonel was well aware that this wasn’t as safe a place as it seemed and he wanted to take every possible precaution or perhaps he just wanted to leave what happened at the previous world behind.
He was a heavenly rank hunter and a colonel in the army and yet, he still behaved in an inappropriate way in front of his subordinates.
Contrary to the soldiers, everyone at Uriel’s party remained calm and collected, except for Sam who was having a hard time reconciling the fact that he got married to a cryptid with his desire to go back and be with her.
Luna, as always, started jotting down all the information she could about the unknown cryptids she saw, as well as drawing them to the best of her considerable ability.
"Here, here, here." Uriel beckoned at a cute woolly animal that had a trunk coming out of its snout.
"Uhm... Uriel, you know that’s a cryptid right?"
"Nonsense! I know an elephant when I see one." He said as the creature returned his petting with a soft caress with its trunk.
"Elephants are huge and that creature is way too small."
"What? It’s not a baby elephant?" Uriel felt cold sweat trickling down his forehead as he tried to take some distance from the small creature, but it started following him wagging its tail.
"Ha, ha, ha! Didn’t you learn anything from your encounter with the tejuino? Do you think you’re like a cryptid whisperer or something?" Nika laughed.
"Actually, I think Sam is a better candidate for that title." Luna said, though everyone broke into a messy laughter.
"Stop it! I bit the bullet for the team!" Sam stomped his feet trying to get his companions to stop making fun of him, with very little success.
"Sam, get this thing off of me!" Uriel cried as he ran in circles around the group. He wouldn’t usually do something as embarrassing as that, but the tejuino sting was a lesson difficult to forget.
"What do you want me to do?"
"Marry it or something!"
The group laughed and goofed around for a while, until the cryptid that was following Uriel finally relented on its effort to pursue him and started nibbling on some flowers by carefully plucking off the petals with its trunk.
"Cute." Luna nodded bobbed her head as she watched the creature prancing over the plains. "I’ll name it Pixie elephant."

"Pixiephant!" Nika cheered.
"Guys, something is off." Uriel said with an odd smile on his face. "I can’t stop myself from smiling."
"It’s called happiness, you should try it sometimes." Nika sneered.
Uriel didn’t know the reason why he felt like that, it was the first time since he came back from his expedition on Chichén Itzá that his emotions actually felt like they were his own, but instead of relishing his joy he was unsettled by it.
While he did like cute animals, it was more out of curiosity rather than love and what made him truly happy was archaeology, but even after witnessing an ancient ceremony he didn’t feel like that.
"He’s right, I feel like that too and you all know how scared I am." Janett pointed out prompting Sam to scan their surroundings, leading him to understand what was going on.
"It’s those flowers! They’re releasing a strange dust!"
The strange dust that came off from the flowers had no other effect than making those who inhaled it ’happy’ but even something as insignificant as that was enough to make everyone lower their guards.
The soldiers were joking around, laughing merrily and happiness gave way to ecstasy until things started going out of hand. One of the soldiers pushed another from the cliff and instead of reprimanding him, everyone just laughed. Enjoy new adventures from novelbuddy
"We need to run!" Uriel commanded.
"There’s literally nowhere to run, this whole place is covered with those flowers." Sam laughed at his own words as though he just told the most incredible joke and everyone in their party, safe for Uriel, followed suit.
He needed to find a way out but even though he wasn’t as affected as the rest of his party thanks to his detached emotions, he still had a hard time focusing.
"Think, think, think," He repeated over and over until the words became meaningless, a mere beat to encompass his thoughts that were drifting away in the tide of bliss caused by the mysterious pollen that came from the flowers. "That’s it! The rainbows, in the native American mythology the spirits were able to walk on them."
"Pffft! Yeah, right."
"Good one!"
"That’s funny because it’s stupid." Luna said with a cackle so creepy it somehow managed to snap them out of their laughing frenzy and they followed Uriel to the rainbow.
Uriel stood in front of the colorful bridge, unsure whether or not it was physical or just an illusion but there was no time to waste. For a regular person, the fear of falling from such heights would keep them from trying something as deranged as walking on a rainbow, but for Uriel it was nothing new.
"It’s solid, come with me!" Uriel shouted and some of the soldiers, including Shaker, picked up on this and started following him while trying to fight back the effects of the pollen. Maybe because of his heavenly rank, Ethan wasn’t as affected by it as the rest of the soldiers and he too was able to follow.
In the end, no more than ten soldiers were able to step on the rainbow before losing their minds, though Ethan didn’t seem bothered by losing so many of his soldiers.
