Drift Of The Multiverse: [Marvel] [Resident Evil] [DC] [Bleach] [DB]-Chapter 195: Start to Assemble
Chapter 195 - 195: Start to Assemble
The situation wasn't complicated. S.H.I.E.L.D. had been guarding and researching the Cosmic Cube for a long time, working alongside Dr. Erik Selvig, who specialized in studying it.
"Who's the enemy?"
"Loki... from Asgard." Coulson didn't elaborate. He knew Ethan understood Asgard far better than he or anyone at S.H.I.E.L.D. did. There was no need for him to go into detail—just mentioning the identity of the enemy was enough.
"Uh... Ethan!"
Tony had just received some information from Coulson and was standing at the console reviewing it. After watching for a bit, he suddenly called out, which made Ethan pause, unsure of what was going on.
"What is it?"
"Your information is in here too."

Ethan stepped beside Tony and looked at the various data displayed on the screen. Sure enough, part of it introduced information about him, including many video clips. He had no idea when S.H.I.E.L.D. had recorded them.
"I'm not surprised."
Coulson, standing nearby, simply smiled and remained silent.
In addition to Ethan, the information included the Hulk, Captain America Steve Rogers, Thor, and others. There was also a detailed profile on the Cosmic Cube.
The real reason Tony had called Ethan over was because of the Cube.
"What exactly is this?"
The documents were full of detailed descriptions and various parameters gathered from scientific instruments. But Tony just glanced at them and lost interest. He could tell this thing was more than what the data showed. Those numbers told him nothing about what the object truly was.
If this had been the Tony from the original storyline, he might not have cared. But since meeting Ethan and witnessing so many things firsthand, he had developed the habit of asking Ethan whenever he ran into something he didn't understand. That way, he could get a definitive answer.
This time was no different.
"The Cosmic Cube. It contains nearly infinite energy. In fact, this energy has spatial properties and can be used to transmit objects through space."
Ethan didn't mind revealing more detailed information. After all, none of this was a secret in this universe. It was just that Earth's civilization was too primitive to access such advanced knowledge, so they simply didn't know.
"Of course, that's just the surface. The Cosmic Cube is actually an Infinity Stone—the one that represents space."
Ethan didn't raise his voice, but the room was quiet, and only a few people were present. Everyone clearly heard what he said.
The sudden revelation of such a massive secret caught Coulson off guard. He quickly coughed to interrupt Ethan.
"Cough! Mister Mage, perhaps this kind of information should be shared in a more appropriate setting." Originally, he had only wanted to greet Ethan and ask for his help. With Thor absent from Earth, Ethan was the only one who truly understood Asgard.
Not to mention, Ethan was a mage and a combat asset—though Coulson didn't know his exact combat power, it surely wasn't weak. After all, he was a mage who could travel between worlds.
Now Coulson felt it was imperative that Ethan and Fury meet immediately. From what had just been revealed, it was clear the Cosmic Cube wasn't just some energy item or portal key.
"Don't worry. There are no outsiders here."
Coulson's concern wasn't without reason. He didn't know Diana and Logan and was wary of exposing classified information in front of people whose identities were unclear.
But after Ethan's comment, Coulson realized these people had likely come with Ethan from another world, like King Arthur had in the past.
"They're your friends?"
"Yes."
Coulson was speechless. Not only did this mage come and go as he pleased, he also traveled with others from different worlds. Thinking back to the time Ethan had brought along King Arthur, he figured these few probably weren't ordinary either.
"Hello, I'm Diana from Paradise Island."
"Logan."
"Nice to meet you. I'm Phil Coulson, just call me Phil." Coulson, the friendliest agent in S.H.I.E.L.D., always knew how to leave a good first impression.
In a time of crisis like this, Coulson didn't want to strain relations with people from other worlds. On the contrary, he hoped to win over more allies to face the threat Loki posed.
While Coulson chatted with Diana and the others, Tony seized the chance to ask more about the Cube. This time, with no one interrupting, Ethan happily shared everything he knew.
For instance, there were six Infinity Stones in the universe, each representing Power, Reality, Space, Soul, Time, and Mind. Every one of them contained immense power. Just one was enough to destroy an entire planet.
This information shocked Tony and made Coulson realize that the danger they were facing was far greater than expected.
"There are only six Infinity Stones in the whole universe, and one of them is on Earth..." Coulson didn't know that there were actually three Infinity Stones on Earth at the moment. Ethan didn't bring it up either. In Coulson's mind, only the Cosmic Cube—the Space Stone—was present.
Coulson even started to wonder whether S.H.I.E.L.D.'s research into the Cube had somehow revealed its location to the rest of the universe, thus attracting powerful enemies to Earth.
"I hope you'll come with me to see Director Fury."
Coulson didn't hesitate. He knew Fury had to hear this. Not just about Loki, but about the future of the entire planet.
"Sure."
Ethan had deliberately shared information about the Cube to make S.H.I.E.L.D. and Fury realize it wasn't something they could afford to keep. As long as they possessed it, Earth would be in constant danger.
Many beings desired the Infinity Stones. Loki wasn't the first, and he wouldn't be the last. Thanos, in particular, was dead set on collecting them.
So, to keep Earth from being targeted by cosmic forces and to avoid endless trouble, S.H.I.E.L.D. should hand over the Cube to Ethan, a mage who could travel across worlds. That way, they could avoid countless disasters, and Ethan would gain a stable, limitless source of space energy for his research.
"Everyone wins!"
That was the plan, though Ethan wasn't sure whether it would succeed. Still, he had to try. After agreeing to Coulson's request, Ethan said goodbye to Tony and Pepper, then left the Stark Building with Diana.
Logan didn't join them. He had to look after Laura. Besides, it sounded like this was just a meeting with some officials, which didn't interest him at all.
Once outside, Ethan glanced around at the quiet street, then turned to Coulson.
"Are we going straight to Fury?"
"We're picking someone up first."
According to the plan, after notifying Tony and Ethan, Coulson would collect Captain America and head to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s temporary headquarters, the Helicarrier.
Steve Rogers had been placed in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s New York branch after being found. His apartment was also in New York, since he was originally from the city. S.H.I.E.L.D. had taken that into account when arranging his post-recovery accommodations.
But to Steve, New York had become a completely unfamiliar city after 70 years of sleep. It would take time for him to adjust to the new world. That's why S.H.I.E.L.D. hadn't assigned him any missions yet.
If Loki hadn't stolen the Cosmic Cube, they would've let Steve continue adjusting before giving him any tasks.
Now, because of this unexpected crisis, the nearly century-old veteran had to cut his vacation short. Not only was his seventy-year-long break over, he couldn't even get a proper night's rest.
"Hello, Steve."
When Steve Rogers opened the door of his apartment, he found Ethan, whom he had just met and chatted with earlier, standing in front of him.
The other person was Phil Coulson from S.H.I.E.L.D.
"I remember you said you weren't from S.H.I.E.L.D."
"I'm not. But occasionally I serve as a consultant or something..." Ethan suddenly turned to Coulson. "Am I getting paid this time? I don't want to work for free."
Coulson smiled as always. "You can discuss compensation with the Director." Then he turned to Steve Rogers. "Sorry to disturb your rest. The matter is urgent. I hope you understand."
"I'm ready."
Steve Rogers was already fully dressed and neat, not at all like someone who'd been resting. Nick Fury had already approached him earlier, explained the situation, and left him with a stack of related documents.
Before Ethan and Coulson arrived, Steve had been reading those files, waiting for pickup.
After grabbing his things and boarding the S.H.I.E.L.D. plane together, Steve kept glancing at Ethan. He was very curious about Ethan's true identity.
