DRAGONBORN SORCERER-Chapter 38: Beginning Of Destruction
The day after the invasion of flame sorcerers, something big was going to happen.
The citizen who returned home from the evacuation, and planed on going back to their usual routines, saw a group of adventurers marching through the market area. Their destination was the Rosevill Grand Church.
The five individuals were the Clan Leader Leonardo, the Guardian Rose, the Stage-10 fighter McVill and two more person.
One dressed in a black long rob showing the gesture of a mage. And another dressed in cloths manifestation of flame itself. Her blazing attire snatched peoples attention. To them, she appeared to be a higher tier flame user, or so.
Leonardo’s face was dead serious while Rose and McVill seemed angered yet their gazes were clam like tranquil sea as though a sign of coming disaster.
Their calmness created a tension among the people. While on the other side Vitra was smiling in her mind. However, Skyler seemed distracted for some reason. As if his heart was desperate to find some answer of a mystery looping around his head.
"My Lord." Vitra called him, lowering her pace from the rest of the group. She fell back a little to catch up with Skyler. "You seem distracted. Is there anything that’s been bothering you?"
"Yes. I guess." He replied, thinking deeply about the circumstances they were going though, "You see, up until now, I was just using Saranavia’s name to get them under my control. I didn’t expect her to say something like that if she knew we’re going against her."
"Are you talking about the message that felt divine yesterday, my lord?" she asked, her lips expressing a sly smile, "If so, then I don’t see any problem."
"Why so?"
"Because the voce we heard yesterday wasn’t Saranavia’s."
Skyler’s eyebrows twisted. His mind felt a little tension as he stopped walking. He was surprised and turned towards her.
Others noticed his hesitation. So they halted as well. Rose observed Skyler’s doubtful eyes, but ignoring that she asked, "My lord... Why did you stop?"
"It’s nothing." He said and began to walk again, "We should hurry as soon as possible."
"Yes my lord." They nodded and started walking again.
Skyler with a low voice, whispered to Vitra, "Hay, what do you mean by that? If it wasn’t Saranavia, then who was it?"
"My lord. I beg pardon but did you really think Saranavia would do something that stupid as to assist us creating a plot against her?"
"Certainly not."
"Precisely." She chuckled, whispering back to him, "It was a different entity— a fellow Primordial Ruler Dragon who pretended to be the divinity."
"A fellow Primordial Ruler Dragon?" Skyler was bewildered by her answer as he repeated the phrase, "You mean, it was another dragon such as yourself who helped us? But weren’t they trapped and separated from the affairs of this world?"
"Not this one." She replied, "It’s true that we were separated from any connection from this world and only act as a source to supply strength through graces. But this one is rather more influential when it comes to supplying essence to balance the world itself."
"Ah.. I see. So who was it?" Skyler asked, pretending to understand her words.
"It was Lucia— the Primordial Ruler Dragon of Light, also known as the Light Queen Dragon. She was tasked with providing light upon this world. Thus her connection wasn’t entirely separated."
"So she was the one who helped in Rose’s ascension to guardian class?" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"That’s probably the case, I suppose. After all, we’re capable of evolving anyone we like." She replied, "As we were trapped we couldn’t serve the purpose. Since she wasn’t, she could. However, it takes a lot effort just to deliver a message even under Saranavia’s trap. But as long as she’s gaining strength. She doesn’t bother checking up on things."
"So, Lucia might have seen the opportunity to play her own game." A satisfactory smile Skyler’s face, "I’m now curious to meet Lucia."
"My Lord!" Vitra’s impression dulled. A hint of irritation and jealous formed on her face as she gazed at him, "Are you implying that she’s more helpful than I am?"
"No, NO!" He refused immediately, "I’m happy to have you as my subordinate. I was just curious to see the others as well."
"Well if you say so.." she took a breath, feeling a little sad "I’m a bit disappointed that I need to stay behind."
"Don’t worry about that." Skyler reassured her, giving her a gentle pat, "When their faith fully transferred on you, I’ll summon you back, leaving them on their own. I’m not a person who helps in charity. I’m just doing this to gain favour."
As grinning smile took over his face. Vitra on the other hand, felt blushed, and her admiration for Skyler deepened more, getting a hope of walking with him very soon.
********
It was midday. When the sun shone brightly above the head, radiating its hot yet gentle light, the group of adventurers reached the church.
The golden castle— not only a place to worship the goddess, also a place where one could atone for their sins— a place for devoting ones body and soul, radiated its brilliance, majestic and divine.
The entrance, the huge golden gates opened with a cracking sound as Fredric— the high priest came outside.
His attire was the same, long white rob as though its very essence was divine itself.
His face had the same smile, as though it was enough to melt the hardest hearts and guide them towards their salvation.
The gaze of his piercing eyes was no different. It was keen as usual, as though capable of exploring the deepest secrets in an instance.
His presence was enhanced by his divine-looking aura which was suffocating for the sinners and a relief for the worshipers. Despite conspiring with the demons, he appeared to be an incarnation of the divinity as he now stood before Skyler and the others.
"Greetings, o beloved servant of the Goddess of Creation!" His captivating voice bloomed, drenching in the sweetness of honey. "Shall I have the honour to know the reason of your sudden arrival, my children?"
His gaze fell on Rose. This time she could clearly the see the hint of lust lurking on his lips. She didn’t ignored it, not this time. Her mind had told her many times that what he did, did for the sake of the goddess. However, this time her mind was fix on seeking clarity before following them blindly.
"Father Fredric!" She spoke first, showing her usual body language, "This is the man I spoke of. He is Lord Skyler, a divine messenger sent by the goddess by herself. He met all the requirements of the prophecy you have told me about."
Rose’s voice changed from casual to of a Nobility. She was a royal after all. Other times, to hide her real identity as the princess, she spoke with other in a casual tone. And she preferred formal tone while addressing the priest. It was kind of a habit of her, so as McVill’s
"Oh I see now." Fredric smiled, hiding his intensions behind the smile, "However, as it appears, you have been deceived by these imposters. The messengers of the goddess are graceful and they have a divine presence around them. These two are not like them. They are merely imposters who are trying to take advantages of you."
His claims were true— in fact, one way or another. But to Rose and the others, they were the real deal. Taking Lucia’s message into consideration, they possibly couldn’t refuse that. In fact, now that Fredric had claimed something that bold, their trust fully shifted on Skyler, making him the actual messenger of Saranavia.
"Though I don’t blame you for getting deceived that easily." Fredric continued, putting an act of understanding them, "As pure as you are, it’s no wonder. But believing in false information is also a sin for which the goddess may forgive you, only if you atone accordingly...."
"Yeah whatever... But that’s not gonna happen." Skyler interrupted, sparkling a flame of anger in Fredric’s mind, "Your half-assed moralities are not gonna convinced them now. So it’s time for you to show your true colour, you vile demon!"
"My my~. How confident you are!" Fredric’s gaze shifted on Skyler as he continued, "And I must say , you are quite the brave one to have that attitude against me— against the high priest of this church and to claim to be a chosen one even though you know the punishment would be much grave."
"I don’t care." Skyler replied, "You can brag all the BS you want. But I don’t care. The only thing I care is to obliterate the darkness and fetch the truth in front everyone."
"Like Lord Skyler said." Rose added, her mind focusing on Fredric, "We know your truth and we are here to bring that into the light."
"I still don’t believe that a devotee such as yourself could do such a thing." Leonardo said, drawing Stella from its sheath, "But we won’t be getting fooled anymore."
"Hmmm?" Fredric murmured, seeing their blazing eyes, "About what truth you are speaking of. Until now, what I did, did for the sake of the goddess."
"That is exactly what we are here for." McVill replied whiling preparing himself, "The deeds you have committed was not for the sake of the goddess. It was for your own filthy satisfaction."
"So you are even ready to draw your weapons on me, just because that insolent imposter filled your ears with insignificant lies?" Fredric still tried to convince them, "That person is nothing but a hindrance that stands as an obstacle between you and your devotion. You don’t need to follow him. He is nothing but a foolish mortal blinded by his arrogant ego...."
His words cut short as something passed touching his skin.
His eyes opened widely as he stared in shock. Blood dropped on the ground. His left tear was torn apart. Vitra who couldn’t stand seeing his lord getting mocked by him, unleashed a devastating Lance inflamed with scorching fire.
It never touched his skin yet tore his left ear. What was more shocking was that the lance was so powerful that it obliterated half of the church within an instance, reducing one side of the church in dust and leaving everyone in awe. The situation seemed as though one side of the church never existed to begin with.
"Choose your words, carefully." She said like a wild beast gazing at her prey. Her tone was low and gentle . Her dreadful eyes showed how menacing she could be. "If you dare to insult my lord again, your pathetic life won’t be living this world without tortured."
Rose saw how furious Vitra was. It reminded her a glimpse of back then— the fate of the flame sorcerers. She annihilated them in a instance without giving them a second chance for asking forgiveness. The fact that Fredric still stood alive before them, was nothing but an example of what restrain looked like.
