Chapter 37: Discussion Before Destruction pt—2

"I can’t believe it." Leonardo stammered in despair. His eyes become hollow as he spoke, "We thought we were helping the church to establish its moral. But in reality we helped in manifestation of the demons? What hideous sins we’ve committed!"

"Now I understand what truth the goddess wanted me to show." Rose added. Her eyes filled with distress as her tears kept flowing down. She was crying, and crying only to despise herself for the fact.

"It was my negligence that I overlooked the matter. In fact, I never wanted to seek the truth for myself. I just... I just kept blaming myself for the event."

Even though McVill didn’t take part in the slaughter, he knew all the details and about the steps the church took, back at that time. So, he didn’t feel guilty.

However, being a supportive brother, he tried to calm his sister. He held Rose in her gentle embrace, and tried convince.

"What happened wasn’t your fault Rose." He spoke as he gently patted on her head, "You were just following church’s orders. If I were you, I would’ve done the same."

But her crying didn’t stop. It wasn’t only because of the slaughtering that made her distressed. The fact that Fredric was doing all the stuffs while compromising with the demons, it made her frustrated.

Skyler seemed a little confused even though he was the one who drag the matter into consideration.

’Well, I’m in a different world after all.’ He thought while looking at the drama, ’If magic exist in this world, so as the demons. Those three never actually told me more about the demons... Well, not that it matters anyway. What I needed is right before me— the tension of their distressed hearts. Now I just need to take the lead.’

He forwarded. It was the perfect opportunity for him to take action. And he, by the way, didn’t let it slide either. Approaching them, he began to speak, his voice heavy and solemn.

"Now is not the time for you to cry, Rose." He said, "Stand up. There’s still time left to correct you mistakes. This time do what you see right. Don’t let it repeat again. Have faith in the goddess. She didn’t forsake you— not yet. Thus you shall stand with me to obliterate the hindrence."

He outstretched his hands for her. Rose, with tears in her eyes, looked at the radiating figure stood before her. To her, Skyler appeared more divine— a way to make everything right— a key for her redemption. She couldn’t refuse, nor did she hesitate.

She wiped her tears, took a deep breath, and looked determined as she took his hands, just as he anticipated. A fire of commitment burned in her blue eyes— so as in McVill’s eyes. Only Leonardo who had been a devotee ever since both of them were born, found it a little hard to believe.

Skyler’s claims were indeed bold yet undeniable. And since he was sent by the goddess— another of his claims, Leonardo had no choice but to follow. His heart was also filled with the guilt of slaughtering innocent people, and it worked as a perfect catalyst. They were convinced.

"But, my lord?" Leonardo spoke, standing and tightening the grip of his sword— Stella. "It’s not like I’m doubting your strength or not, but how do you intended to do everything right? Breaking the fake faith that Fredric, I mean Hyndall has built so far, isn’t an easy feat."

"I know that too." Skyler chuckled, hearing Leonardo’s statement, "Which is why I’ve decided to destroy the whole church an enlighten every people about their darksides. The question is, will you stand with me or with the demons."

"Isn’t it obvious?" Leonardo smiled with a newfound motivation, "I’d rather die than getting manipulated by them once again."

’That’s the spirit I wanted to see.’ Skyler thought, ’Everything so far, is going as I’ve planned. Just a little more, then I’ll be over with this nonsense.’

When everything was going according to his plan, a sudden question came from Rose who was now fully recovered from her breakdown.

"If you’re going to destroy the Grand Church, then the barrier around the nation is most likely to be shattered."

The statement got Skyler’s attention. He didn’t forgot why his heart was taken away last time. It was to fuel mana to keep the barrier around Zelpher.

If a similar barrier happened to protect Rosevill too, then there might be more to just demons and stuffs. Right at that moment, a new reason born.

’But wait..’ He hit a speedbump while thinking, ’Rosevill might be different than Zelpher. After all, Zelpher was way bigger than this one. They might have another power to fuel the barrier. I should confirm.’

"You’re correct, Rose." He said, pretending as if he knew it from the start, "But... please remind me, how does the barrier work around Rosevill?"

"Well.. We pray from our heart. And those prayers get converted into mana which keep the barrier from shattering. Or so as the church explained."

’So, they are blind. Well it’s not like I know their actual processes. But I do know it doesn’t work like that.’

"Don’t worry." He replied, "Since I’m going built a new church for Rosevill, we’ll cast a new one. And beside, what’s the point of having a flawed barrier when it couldn’t protect Rosevill from corruption."

"You are certainly correct, my lord." Vitra spoke as she stand to back his words. She came near Rose as well. Taking a quick glance at her Vitra said, "By the way, are you forgetting why you were chosen as a Guardian. You could be a hero or a sorcerer."

"Wasn’t it because I was a stage-3 Tank?" Rose stared with confusion, "Was there any other class where I could’ve reach?"

"Certainly, Yes." Vitra replied, "Ascension Classes are independent of their previous classes. And at some certain point of time, you can even change your class. Regardless of your stage and class."

"Yeah, I heard about it before." Leonardo said, thinking while touching his chin, "I once read in an ancient book that only a few were able to change their classes."

"For example... take those flame sorcerers into consideration. Not all of them were sorcerers yet they successfully evolved into one by exchanging their graces. And it led them to proclaim to be a flam sorcerers."

"I never knew that could be even possible." Rose stared surprisingly, "Thanks to enlighten me, my lady." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

’It’s not like I knew it either.’ Skyler thought annoyingly in his mind, ’It’s getting complicated with each moment. Man! Why the hell I’m even in this world. It sucks!’

"So, back to the question." Vitra stared at Rose again, "Tell me why do you think you became a Guardian?"

"To protect?" her eyes looked confident yet with a hint of confusion.

"Exactly!" Vitra replied, "If you harness your full strength, you can passively cast a barrier around this nation. And it may require a lot amount of mana, but don’t be afraid. It’s what I’m here for. I can keep supplying the mana as long as I receive prayers from people. If they start to have faith on me, not only will it keep them safe but the goddess will be pleased as well."

It was shocking but valid. As Skyler explained Vitra about his game, she couldn’t find a better way than this to back him up. And given it more time, one day might come when they won’t need to pray for Saranavia anymore.

"But doesn’t that mean you have to remain in Rosevill?" Skyler asked, panicking her. She didn’t thought of the consequences before speaking. And now she couldn’t possibly back off from what she proposed.

She almost fell in tear, but come up with another idea, right at that moment. She chuckled as she spoke, "Don’t worry my lord. If protecting this people is the goddess’s wish then I must remain behind. However, you can always summon me by using your skill."

’Well at least it’s better to live in this small country rather than remaining trapped in Agni Realm.’ A second thought ran through her mind.

"Wait. But I don’t have that kind of—"

Skyler’s words were cut short as the system interface appeared.

[New Active Skill learned]

[Active Skill: Summoning Lord (Lv N.A.)]

[Effects: It allows the user to summon the Primordial Ruler Dragons at his will. MP cost:0]

’Great!’ Skyler thought, ’Receiving such skills out of nowhere isn’t half bad. But for now, I can only summon Vitra. I wonder if I registered the rest of them, I might be able to summon all of them. That’ll be great too.’

He was going ahead of himself. But soon he stopped his daydreaming and came back to reality. Looking gracefully at Rose he stated, "What Vitra said, is correct. She’s willing to stay behind only if you wish to make everything right. And Rose, after the establishment, I want you to become the caretaker of the church. You’ll be the closest one to the goddess."

Hearing such words, there was no way that she could refuse. It was the highest honour one could possibly get. And she was fortunate enough to be one. Her eyes sparkled in light as she nodded. Yet again, another question raised by Leonardo.

"if we start to worship Lady Vitra, won’t the Goddess of Creation be unsatisfied?"

"Not in the least." To everyone’s surprise— even Skyler, a ray of divine light conveyed the message, "It will rather pleasure me, if you worship one of my creations."

Without a doubt, it was a message from the heavens. As the others kneeled at once. However, it was Skyler’s comprehension. Why would the goddess help him by delivering the message—he might have thought while Vitra smiled surprisingly, giving him an impression of ’It’s all right.’

Thus, ignoring the fact, he played along. "You heard the goddess, right? Now that she’s fine with it. Let’s reduce the corruption into dust."

"Yes My Lord." They replied in unison.

Skyler seemed satisfied, yet concerned about the voice they just heard. While on the other hand Rose felt relieved to hear the voice again.
