Dragon Necromancer: Starting With First Dragon Bloodline-Chapter 35: Showing Off
No one expected Marlo to own Lantherion. The epic variant of it at that.
"Yeah," he said after the slithering serpent fully materialized behind him. It lingered like a ghost, almost hiding within its own freezing flames. "Mom’s is weaker than mine. I got really lucky."
’So that’s how it is,’ Noa realized.
"What?" Kael exclaimed. "That woman is your mother?"
Marlo nodded. "Don’t we resemble each other?" he said and pointed to his eyes.
They both had emerald green eyes that shone the same way mana around them did. But that was about it.
There were no other similar features between them.
And Marlo’s eyes shimmered even more only after the Lantherion showed itself and completely affected the room.
Yet, there was something off about him.
The way he agreed with Noa that tamers came first and beasts came second now sounded like total bullshit.
He had an epic-ranked creature by his side.
His fate was already set in stone, and the strength he could reach would easily rival even the kings of the smaller kingdoms.
So why would he agree with Noa?
It didn’t make sense, and others realized that too.
This time, Lior took the initiative to contribute to the conversation, his voice louder than Noa had expected.
"Why did you say that beasts aren’t everything?"
Marlo was caught off guard for a moment. A question from the silent boy wasn’t the first reaction he expected.
"Noa said that he would prove that," he started, raising his head high. "I wanted to do that as well, but the other way around—to show the world that a tamer can be weak even with a talented beast."
Another wave of silence settled in the room.
The temperature plummeted again.
Everyone, including Noa, looked at the boy as if he were the biggest moron in the world.
"I had my doubts," Kael said, shaking his head. "But I guess you really are a shitface... And not just that—you are also dumb, clueless, and a stupid fucker."
Lior nodded.
He shared the same opinion and, not knowing how to express himself, he swiftly jabbed Marlo.
The latter tried to dodge it.
But the fist still grazed his jaw with a sharp, hushed sound.
"That hurts," the boy exclaimed, rubbing his face. A red mark emerged beneath his lips, proving the punch’s force.
However, in an instant, the freezing flame surged.
They swirled around him like a living shield, and after touching his skin, the mark vanished, healing completely.
A quick gasp from Kael reverberated through the room.
The speed of his recovery was so fast that there was no point in punching Marlo again.
"You guys don’t even let me explain myself," he said, his head still hanging high. This was the only time he was showing his confidence. "The strength isn’t always good or necessary. If you want it, strive for it. I have no use for it.
All I want to prove is that fate can’t force power upon me."
This was a loud declaration.
Something not a lot of people could understand and sympathize with him.
Noa was no exception.
’He just wants to live with his ideals,’ he lamented. ’But in this world, if you want to survive, you have to become stronger.’ 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
But—
Hearing his stance, unknowingly, Noa gained a tiny bit of respect for the boy.
Even if he had no intention of accepting that way of life, the idea Marlo was trying to prove and the resolve to give up something as desirable as that kind of power were admirable, at least.
Though it was foolish in his opinion.
The next few minutes passed as Kael and Lior revealed their respective beasts.
But Marlo had to dismiss his serpent because the room was already affected by its presence, and the others’ beasts didn’t want to show up while it was around either.
The first one to summon a tamed creature was Kael.
He rolled up his sleeves.
Then, after snapping his fingers, a burst of blue light erupted from his core, showing a one-meter-tall, four-legged creature.
Its bones were visible. They looked like plates of armor, with three long horns coiling from the skull.
"Bluefang," the boy said. "It’s only a common rank, but it makes me quite nasty in fights."
"Nice! It has good potential," Marlo exclaimed and clapped.
He wasn’t joking or looking down on his roommate—on the contrary, there was a hint of envy in his eyes.
Then came Lior’s turn.
He didn’t say a word. Simply raising his hand high, something pulsed out of his palm.
A tiny creature took shape in golden colors.
It barely looked bigger than the Graveworm and resembled fairies from the old tales. With almost invincible wings, it hovered in the air and crossed its arms.
Lior didn’t comment.
He was just looking at his beast in silence, an unfamiliar smile popping up on his face.
"Starlume?" Noa recognized it from the ancient knowledge. "It’s support type, right? With wind and lightning elements."
The boy nodded lazily.
Despite being so pretty, Starlumes were only uncommon-rank creatures.
Their strength and potential were limited, but they were still useful and advantageous in the early tiers.
"It fits you," Marlo said and jumped on his bed.
With the beasts already revealed, the tension between them had eased. So they let themselves have long, casual talks, sharing information about life in the academy.
Eventually, when the night fell and no light reached their room, they found their beds.
"Classes tomorrow," Noa murmured, looking at the white ceiling.
He had seen the beasts people in his age group controlled and concluded that they were within his knowledge of how to evolve and improve their capabilities.
’I can help them. I can make them stronger,’ he thought, closing his eyes. ’But not yet.’
There was no trust between them.
And Noa had no reason to risk his student life for these strangers.
However, Thalia was an exception, and after amassing the required resources, she could rank up.
Meanwhile, Marlo mumbled in his sleep.
"Don’t... don’t go! Let’s eat frog soup together. I promise it is delicious."
The academy bell’s distant rings announced the morning’s arrival, and Noa, neatly dressed, stepped into the corridor before his very first class.
Thalia was waiting for him with a bright smile.
And together, they entered the room with a sign that read "Arcane Beast Practice."
