Chapter 8 - 8: Uploading Combat Techniques – A New Zerg Unit Emerges

At that moment, the mental link of all remaining Zerglings was transferred directly to Lin Fan.

With just a thought, he could control them precisely, like extensions of his own limbs.

The thousand-year soul beast blinked in confusion. Why had these strange creatures suddenly stopped moving?

Before it could react, Lin Fan had all the Zerglings close in to form a perfect encirclement, surrounding the soul beast with no gaps in sight.

Then... silence.

Every Zergling stood motionless, staring intently at the thousand-year beast.

Lin Fan's intent was simple—create psychological pressure.

Even when outmatched, sheer numbers and oppressive presence could shake an opponent's will.

Sure enough, the soul beast began to feel uneasy.

"Roooaaar!"

It let out a thunderous roar—but the creatures didn't flinch.

Now it was getting nervous, shifting its weight back and forth. These things were clearly weaker, so why did they suddenly feel... different?

Finally, it couldn't hold back. With a snarl, it raised a massive pincer and slammed it toward the nearest Zergling!

Lin Fan instantly commanded the targeted Zerglings to retreat.

BOOM!

The pincer struck the ground with full force—hitting nothing.

Right then, several Zerglings from behind leapt into action!

They landed on the beast's back, driving their razor-sharp claws deep into its vulnerable flesh—then launched off its body, retreating before retaliation could follow.

"Raaaagh!"

The soul beast howled in pain and swung its tail wildly, but the Zerglings were already long gone.

Once again, the swarm silently surrounded it, unmoving—staring.

If not for the pain still coursing through its body, the soul beast might have doubted the attack had even happened.

A flicker of fear crept into its eyes. It roared again, this time unleashing a pulse of purple soul power!

Now!

Lin Fan ordered the front-line Zerglings to retreat, while two other groups climbed trees at high speed.

"Hiss—!"

The beast launched a stream of toxic green venom straight ahead—only to hit empty air.

The venom sizzled as it scorched the ground, releasing a pungent stench.

"Screeeeech!"

From all directions—front, rear, below, and even above—Zerglings launched their assault. Those in the trees dropped from above like living missiles.

The soul beast closed its eyes in despair.

The sickening sound of flesh being ripped and torn echoed across the silent forest.

Inside the Hatchery, Lin Fan stretched and smirked.

"Blew your ultimate right at the start? That's it? I thought you were stronger."

"Cerebrate, upload the combat strategy I just used into the Zerg neural network. I want all Zerg units to learn this hit-and-run tactic."

[Overmind's combat tactics have been uploaded.]

Lin Fan began analyzing.

So soul beasts relied mainly on their powerful bodies and soul skills.

When the body is no longer enough, they fall back on soul skills—big, flashy finishers.

But those ultimates cost energy. And when the enemy is spent...

That's when you strike the killing blow.

With the right tactics and overwhelming numbers, the Zerg could absolutely take down stronger enemies. Lin Fan could already imagine the terror in future soul beasts' eyes when facing an endless swarm.

Just as he was about to disconnect, a flash of brilliant purple light caught his attention.

Curious, he had a Zergling approach.

There, under the shimmering purple soul ring, lay a glowing purple soul bone.

"A... Soul Bone?!"

Lin Fan was shocked.

A torso bone, no less—radiating a deep, alluring glow.

The amount of resentment this beast must have had at death... Incredible.

He immediately ordered several Drones to recover the soul beast's corpse and bring the soul bone along with it.

Disconnecting from the swarm network, he checked his energy reserves:

[Energy: 5023 points]

That much already?

The corpse and the enhanced conversion efficiency of the Infestation Pit were really speeding things up.

He pondered. That thousand-year beast must've had valuable genes.

Currently, he had six Hatcheries. Four would be tasked with Zergling production, while one Level 2 Hatchery and one Level 1 Hatchery would be kept in reserve.

[As you command.]

In four massive incubation chambers, eggs rapidly swelled into pulsating spores.

Ferocious war machines were gestating within.

Soon, several Drones returned, dragging the soul beast's corpse into the Infestation Pit.

Lin Fan picked up the soul bone for a closer look. It was cool and smooth to the touch, like black jade—clearly well-preserved despite being bone.

Its earlier purple glow had faded, replaced by an ominous, deep black sheen.

Unfortunately, Lin Fan hadn't awakened his martial soul yet, so he couldn't absorb the bone himself.

Not that he even wanted it—a mere thousand-year soul bone wasn't worth his attention.

"Cerebrate, can we extract genetic traits from this soul bone to enhance the Zerg?"

[Affirmative. Please place it into the Infestation Pit.]

Seriously?!

He walked to the pit and tossed the soul bone inside.

A moment later...

[Gene Extraction Complete.]

[Soul beast traits extracted: Acid Spray, Sharp Claws, Body Hardening]

[Soul Bone traits extracted: Torso Hardening, Chitin Armor]

[New Zerg unit unlocked: Hydralisk]

[Global Zerg Enhancement unlocked: Physical Fortification – Exoskeletal Armor]

Lin Fan was stunned by the sheer haul.

This soul beast had been a gold mine!

A brand-new Zerg unit unlocked, and even a general enhancement for all Zerg forces?

Without hesitation, Lin Fan ordered:

Level 2 and spare Level 1 Hatcheries—begin full-scale Hydralisk production!

[As you command.]

Three massive spores began swelling inside the Level 2 Hatchery, towering over Lin Fan and radiating a murderous aura from within.

Meanwhile, the Zerglings from another incubation chamber had finished hatching and burst forth.

"Wait... what's with these Zerglings? Why do they look different?"

[All future Zerg units will hatch with enhancements. Existing units can return to Creep for retroactive enhancement.]

Lin Fan nodded in realization—very convenient.

He examined the enhanced Zerglings. No longer lean and fragile, they were now clad in black chitinous armor, their claws broader and more lethal, gleaming with a chilling edge.

These were heavily armored assault Zerglings—intimidating and deadly.

Lin Fan was thrilled. If Zerglings had evolved this far, what would the later units become?

Send the newly hatched Zerglings to hunt. The older ones should return for enhancement.

[Affirmative.]

Soon, dozens of Zerglings returned and lay down on the Creep.

It began wrapping around their bodies in waves.

Tiny spores pulsed and expanded—

The swarm... was evolving again.
