A royal guard swallowed nervously and whispered,
"Your Highness... what do we do now?"
Davis was completely panicked.
He had always heard of human Soul Masters surrounding and hunting soul beasts—but never the other way around! He'd never imagined a situation where soul beasts would encircle and prepare to hunt them!
Even if he wanted to break through, the moment he saw the endless swarm of strange soul beasts surrounding them, any shred of courage vanished.
Against a single powerful enemy, one might still muster the will to resist.
But against a sea of enemies—unnumbered, densely packed, and seemingly everywhere—even if each one were weaker, fear would take root.
And these beasts? They didn't look weak at all.
As he stared at the surrounding swarm tightening its encirclement, a thought suddenly flashed in Davis's mind.
He tilted his head back and screamed toward the heavens:
"Spirit Hall! Snake Lance Douluo—come save me!!"
Davis's thinking was simple: use Snake Lance Douluo to escape.
Even if Spirit Hall had ulterior motives, anything was better than dying at the claws of these inhuman monsters.
But unfortunately...
His cry vanished into the night like a stone sinking into the sea—no response, no ripple.
The forest remained deathly still.
And those strange, crimson-eyed soul beasts didn't move an inch. They simply stared at them in silence, their eyes gleaming with eerie red light.
The atmosphere grew unbearably oppressive.
Davis stood frozen, unable to make sense of what was happening—but not daring to move either. All he could do was stand there, locked in a silent standoff with the swarm.
"Kukuku~ So clever, Your Highness."
A flirtatious, mocking voice came from behind them.
"But unfortunately... Snake Lance Douluo isn't available to save you right now."
Davis spun around—and the moment he saw the speaker, his pupils constricted in shock.
His expression froze in disbelief.
"Xiao Yun?! What... what are you doing here?!"
Zhu Zhuyun stood before him, clad in form-fitting, armor-like energy that revealed every curve of her flawless figure. She smiled playfully, stopping just five meters away.
"Of course, I'm here under our Lord's orders... to bring you back."
"Lord...? What Lord? Xiao Yun, it's me, Davis! I'm your fiancé—"
Zhu Zhuyun raised a hand to interrupt him.
"Oh, I know exactly who you are. But now, I serve only one being: the Sovereign."
Her eyes glinted with a strange pink light, her expression bordering on fanaticism.
Davis's heart sank.
Something was terribly wrong.
His voice rose in desperation.
"What are you saying?! Xiao Yun, come back with me!"
Zhu Zhuyun stared at him, a smirk tugging at her lips—though for a brief second, pity flashed in her eyes.
"You're just a pitiful, ordinary insect. How could you ever compare to the greatness of the Zerg Sovereign?"
"Be smart. Surrender quietly and come with me."
Her soft words pierced Davis like a dagger to the chest.
His face went pale. He stared at her, eyes reddening.
"What... are you saying... Xiao Yun... what happened to you?!"
Her smile faded. With a hint of irritation, she opened her mouth and said coldly:
"Enough talk. Accept the baptism of the Swarm."
"ROOOOOAR!"
With a terrifying roar, the Zerg horde surged forward like a tidal wave.
Davis could only watch in despair as the endless swarm closed in. Through the cracks in the charging Zerg, he caught one last glimpse of Zhu Zhuyun's face...
...before he was completely swallowed by the Zerg sea.
"Haaah—"
Snake Lance Douluo stood panting, releasing his Martial Soul True Body and gazing down at Robert's corpse.
A flicker of admiration crossed his face.
Despite being only a Soul Sage, Robert had managed to fight him for this long... even forcing him to go all out.
A rare talent, indeed. But alas, they stood on opposite sides.
The cloaked figure beside him remained silent for a long moment before speaking:
"It's done. We should leave—before the others get too far."
Snake Lance Douluo nodded and was about to move—when his expression suddenly shifted. He turned sharply toward a shadow in the forest.
"Who's there?! Show yourself!"
CLAP... CLAP... CLAP...
A slow, mocking applause echoed from the shadows as a young man stepped out with a smile.
"Impressive. Truly impressive, Snake Lance Douluo. A tool-type Martial Soul undergoing beastification? That was quite a show."
Snake Lance Douluo's face turned grim as he eyed the newcomer warily.
Though he sensed no soul power from the man, he didn't dare drop his guard.
The stench of blood rolling off this youth was heavier than any evil Soul Master he'd ever encountered.
So young... yet so soaked in death. Just how many had he killed?
The man's icy, predatory stare made Snake Lance Douluo's heart thump. It felt like being targeted by a wild beast.
He asked cautiously,
"Who are you? Why are you following us?"
But the man ignored him completely and turned to the cloaked figure at Snake Lance Douluo's side.
With amused curiosity, he said:
"What should I call you? Princess Qian Renxue? Or perhaps... Prince Xue Qinghe?"
"What?!"
Both Snake Lance Douluo and Qian Renxue gasped.
Snake Lance Douluo was shocked that the man knew her true identity.
Qian Renxue, however, was struck speechless—because he knew her original plan.
Xue Qinghe.
That name represented her secret mission—replacing the real prince and infiltrating the royal family. Only she and her mother, Bibi Dong, knew the truth.
How could this stranger possibly know?
She couldn't help but ask,
"Who are you?!"
The young man smirked, eyes gleaming with malicious glee.
"That's not important. What matters... is that soon, you'll be mine."
"Insolent cur!"
Snake Lance Douluo roared in fury, his soul power erupting in a blazing shockwave.
He launched an attack instantly!
BOOM!
The man casually raised a hand—and blocked the blow effortlessly.
After all, his body was now as tough as a ten-thousand-year soul beast's. A simple strike from Snake Lance Douluo couldn't harm him.
He flicked his ear and said with disdain,
"Is that all you've got? And they call you a Titled Douluo?"
"You—!!"
Enraged, Snake Lance Douluo's Martial Soul and nine soul rings surged into view. Spear in hand, he charged forward!
But the youth only smiled mockingly.
"Gotcha."
Huh?!
Before Snake Lance Douluo could react, his spear passed straight through the man's body—which dissipated like a burst bubble.
A phantom!
He whipped around—
Qian Renxue was gone.
Click-click-click-click...
Suddenly, the sound of countless creeping, crawling creatures echoed from every direction.
Then came the man's voice again, now dripping with mockery:
"Enjoy the gift I've left you. Oh, and remember—
the one who hurt you... is Tang San.
Son of Tang Hao, of the Clear Sky Sect."
And with that—
BOOM!
An earth-shattering explosion ripped through the forest, engulfing everything in its wake.
