Doted By The Regent King-Chapter 598 Good Heart
Chapter 598: Chapter 598 Good Heart
Wufu arrived at this era and went to the temple to offer incense for the first time. Seeing Madam Zhou and the others devoutly kneeling in front of each Buddha statue, murmuring prayers for blessings, Wufu didn’t say anything.
Everyone has their own religious beliefs, she had no right to interfere. Compared to the devotion of Madam Zhou and the others, she simply pressed her hands together to show her respect, then she donated incense money before moving aside to watch the steady stream of people coming and going, holding their incense with reverence.
The common plight of mortals, the petty troubles of the masses.
Wufu wasn’t interested in the rituals of worship, but she did find the vegetarian meals at the temple quite delicious, particularly refreshing given that almost every day during the New Year period had been filled with fine dishes and meats. Eating vegetarian was a nice change of palate.
The scenery of Green Mountain Temple was extremely beautiful. It was said that in late autumn, when the mountainsides were covered with red maple leaves, many scholars and literati were attracted to the site. However, now in the midst of deep winter, the mountain was covered in a blanket of white snow, and there were not many places to visit. Therefore, after their vegetarian meal, the group hurried back.
On the way back, Wufu had someone buy two baskets full of white flour buns from the temple. Madam Ping and the others didn’t understand. Even if the temple’s buns were tasty, to buy a few would be enough, but two baskets full—who would eat them all?
When they reached the foot of the mountain, everyone understood, for Wufu had the buns carried down and given to the ragged beggars kneeling by the roadside.
"Originally, I thought she was not keen on kneeling or divining fortunes at the temple, but I hadn’t expected her Bodhisattva-mind to reveal itself here," remarked Madam Ping from the carriage, observing Wufu instructing the maidservants and servants to distribute the buns by hand, not minding the dirt or the stench.
Back on the mountain, Madam Ping had noticed that Wufu seemed reluctant to pay homage to the Bodhisattva and felt somewhat disturbed by it; yet she didn’t realize that her own thoughts had been too narrow.
Some people might not display their compassion through devoutly worshiping Buddha, but they can still do their part in charity and accumulation of virtue.
Madam Zhou said, "Not only Madam didn’t see it coming, I didn’t expect it either."
She sighed inwardly. Wufu could be so kind to beggars, yet she was cold and indifferent to her own family members. Why was this?
Was it not because her family’s conduct had repeatedly provoked and violated her bottom line?
Madam Zhou felt a sense of despondency. Whom could she blame but her own family for not being worthy?
"Mrs. Zhou is fortunate to have raised such a good daughter," Madam Ping commented as she watched Wufu lifting a little girl who hadn’t managed to grab a bun and consoling her by pressing two buns into her hands. The sincerity and kindness in her eyes were not a pretense.
Madam Zhou smiled, her back straightening a bit, her face showing pride.
After the buns had been distributed, the carriage set off again, with the beggars still kneeling behind it, offering their gratitude.
Ping Caier retracted her astonished gaze and looked at Wufu, who now had stains on her clothes and her hair somewhat disheveled from holding two children, and couldn’t help asking, "Wufu, aren’t you afraid of getting dirty?"
Wufu replied, "What’s there to be afraid of? A wash upon returning home will do."
Ping Caier’s expression was complex as she said, "You truly have a kind heart."
Wufu, thinking little of it, laughed and said, "It’s within my means, just a matter of giving away a few buns, nothing to speak of as kindness." Before coming up, she had seen the beggars by the roadside and somehow they reminded her of her past life when she had been a destitute orphan. That’s why she decided to buy two baskets of buns to give away.
Ping Caier took it as her modesty, but her gaze warmed considerably. freewebnøvel.com
Wufu did not bother to guess her thoughts, and settled into rest with her eyes closed. However, upon returning home and seeing several people sitting and waiting at the doorstep, her expression immediately turned gloomy, and her good mood vanished completely.
