Doted By The Regent King-Chapter 570: I Don’t Know What Makes You So Important
Chapter 570: Chapter 570: I Don’t Know What Makes You So Important
With the backing of a county official, Liu Jin swiftly purchased Suixin Restaurant and candidly stated that his lady expressed interest in maintaining the establishment as an eatery. She inquired whether Liu Ming’s staff would be taken along?
Liu Ming glanced at the restaurant he had painstakingly managed; the chairs were now overturned onto the tables, creating a particularly bleak scene. He never expected such an ending.
"Young Master, I am an outsider; the staff of this restaurant were all recruited locally. Why would they follow me back? However, I will ask them on your behalf when I distribute this month’s wages," Liu Ming regained his composure and replied with a smile.
If it had to be sold, so be it. Since it could continue as an eatery, his original effort in setting it up was not in vain.
"That’s fine. Our host plans to run it as an eatery, and having the old staff familiar with the business makes it easier to start," Liu Jin said with a smile.
Liu Ming forced a smile, stepped outside, and had someone set up a ladder so he could personally remove Suixin Restaurant’s signboard. The restaurant was no longer his. "Ah, have you finally resigned yourself to fate, willing to take down the sign obediently?" someone said sarcastically behind Liu Ming.
Liu Ming turned around and his expression changed as his eyes filled with deep-seated hatred.
If it weren’t for this person, why would he have been forced to sell his shop?
The newcomer was none other than Du Yingliang, the man who wished to buy the Suixin Restaurant at a low price. He was smugly standing there with a toothpick in his mouth, casting a sidelong glance at Liu Ming, with two or three men behind him also holding toothpicks.
Without a word, Liu Ming took the signboard and headed back toward the restaurant.
"Hey, don’t go. Master Liu, one hundred taels for your shop is quite a generous offer; don’t be ungrateful," Du Yingliang said, holding onto his signboard.
Liu Ming said with a cold face, "Young Master Du is too late. The shop has already been bought by someone else!"
Upon hearing this, Du Yingliang’s face subtly changed. What, purchased? Who the hell is blind enough not to know this shop was to be bought by Du Yingliang himself? Who has the audacity and foolish bravery to snatch food from his mouth? Are they tired of living?
"Who is it!" Du Yingliang demanded.
Liu Ming looked at Du Yingliang grinding his teeth and felt even more fortunate that his hard work did not fall into such a man’s hands; otherwise, it would have been utterly suffocating.
"Master Liu, is there something wrong?" Liu Jin stepped out.
Liu Ming smiled: "No problem. Young Master Du wanted to purchase the shop, but the shop is no longer mine to sell. Young Master, what do you think?"
Liu Jin looked at Du Yingliang, scoffed dismissively, and spoke to Ma Tiankuai, "Go to the Yamen and settle the procedures for these two shops. As for the matters concerning those two estates, I need to report back to Lady Wu before I can give you an answer."
"Ah, Master Liu, please do speak to Lady Wu soon. Those are truly excellent estates, even better producing than Ping Family Hollow; I’ve just acquired them myself," Ma Tiankuai said with a squint, tucking the documents into his chest before hurrying off.
Du Yingliang’s face darkened a few shades as he looked at Liu Jin. So, this young brat stole his shop?
Who does he think he is? Daring to snatch from a tiger’s mouth!
Nevertheless, Du Yingliang, hearing Ma Tiankuai calling the youngster ’Master Liu,’ momentarily couldn’t guess whose man he was, so he stepped forward to inquire, "May I ask, young brother, who is your master?"
Liu Jin glanced at him and said, "Who my master is has nothing to do with you."
Du Yingliang was taken aback and said, "This shop..."
"Oh. It’s been bought by our Host! For One Thousand Taels!" Liu Jin declared proudly.
"Do you know who I am?" Du Yingliang persisted, trying to contain his anger.
Liu Jin blinked, looked him up and down, and then replied, "I don’t know!"
And what do you count for? So what if you’re the Lord Magistrate’s brother-in-law? Lady Wu is still someone whom the Prefect regards with special favor!
