Doted By The Regent King-Chapter 526
Chapter 526: 526
You’re really slow!
With a hint of reproach, the words carried by the wind and snow reached Ah Jiu’s eardrums, stirring his heart.
The young girl in front, gritting her teeth, displayed a behavior totally unbecoming of a demure lady in a great family. Yet, on her, it seemed entirely natural.
Wufu’s body swayed, her steps faltering slightly, and she looked about to fall to the ground when Ah Jiu dashed forward in a swift step and narrowly caught her in his arms.
"Is something wrong?" Ah Jiu asked, holding her, and immediately detected the smell of blood, his expression changing.
Wufu cracked a smile, raised her hand, and handed over the needle: "Hit by a hidden weapon."
Before Ah Jiu could take it, Yuan Ye, who had followed close behind, stepped forward and snatched the Flying Needle first, casting a fierce glance toward the man kneeling on the ground, pointed at by swords.
"Sleep for a while." Seeing her exhausted look, Ah Jiu touched her acupoint for fainting, and Wufu’s head drooped softly, resting against his chest.
Seeing this, Ah Jiu undid the strap of the large cloak he wore, took it off, and wrapped the person in his arms tightly before carrying her away.
"I’ll leave this place to you," Ah Jiu instructed Yuan Ye as he looked at him.
"Master, rest assured."
The snowstorm howled as the carriage wheels rolled across the thinly snow-covered cobblestones, leaving behind a trail of ruts.
Ah Jiu quickly returned to the inn with Wufu. Seeing the young lady unconscious and being carried in, Hongyu and Liu Jin, who had been waiting in the room, turned pale with fear, tears streaming down their faces.
"What are you standing there dumbfounded for? Fetch your lady’s clean clothes," Ah Jiu scolded.
Upon hearing this, Hongyu hurried back to her room, not bothering about Ah Jiu carrying the person into his own room.
After laying Wufu on the bed, Xiao Li, without needing instruction from Ah Jiu, had already prepared hot water and medicine.
Ah Jiu noticed the clearly cut hair beside Wufu’s ear, his gaze sharpening as a cold aura spread from his body.
"Master," Hongyu came with the clothes in her arms.
Ah Jiu composed himself, stepped aside, and said, "Change your lady into clean clothes and wash her."
With that, he left the room, and Xiao Li closed the door.
Ah Jiu didn’t go far, standing just outside the door, watching the snowflakes falling generously from the sky, landing on the trees in the courtyard.
The piercing cold wind blew past, penetrating his limbs and bones, and his heart, filled with anger, gradually cooled down bit by bit.
"Master, the young lady should be alright," Xiao Li spoke up cautiously.
Although somewhat disheveled, her clothes were in order, and Wufu’s expression did not show signs of suffering any humiliation, although a fierce fight seemed inevitable.
What kind of struggle had Wufu been through?
They had spent several Shichen from morning to night, searching in many places, before finally pinpointing the small courtyard in an ordinary residence. As they approached, they heard the faint sound of fighting, then saw the man trying to escape and noticed Wufu in the courtyard.
At that moment, he thought to himself how fortunate he was that she was safe. Otherwise, his anger would have been immense.
"I know," Ah Jiu said coldly.
He knew, but he was still furious. She should be bright and lively, clean and full of vitality, safe and unharmed—yet, in reality, she appeared disheveled and showed a fragility he had never seen before.
Seeing Wufu like that made Ah Jiu feel terribly uncomfortable, and somewhat panicked. She shouldn’t look like that, but...
Where was this unease coming from?
Ah Jiu frowned, watching the snowflakes fall endlessly, his eyebrows knitting together as his hand slowly moved to his chest.
