Domination in America, Starting from being a Boxing Champion-Chapter 945 - 661 Awards and Competition
I'm unstoppable
I'm unstoppable
I'm a Porsche with no brakes
I'm like a Porsche with no brakes
I'm invincible
I'm unbreakable
Yeah I win every single game
Yeah, I win every single game
On the morning of February 12, the 49th Grammy Awards ceremony was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Link was invited to attend and performed the song "Unstoppable" on stage. After the performance, a round of thunderous applause and cheers erupted at the venue.
After stepping off the stage, Link took his seat to watch the awards ceremony.
Compared to Grammy ceremonies three to four years later, this year's event featured fewer star artists, with notable attendees being rock legend Bob Dylan, pop icon Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, T.I., Red Hot Chili Peppers, Madonna, John Mayer, Black Eyed Peas, among others.
Sitting to Link's left was British singer James Blunt, best known for his hit "You're Beautiful". Released in 2005, the song topped the UK Singles Chart for six consecutive weeks and even reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making him the second British artist to achieve this feat.
This year, he received three nominations: Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Song of the Year.
To Link's right was his old acquaintance Carrie Underwood. She garnered three nominations this year for her album "Some Hearts," including Best New Artist, Best Country Album, and Best Female Country Vocal Performance.
After over three hours of performances and award presentations, 108 awards were announced and distributed.
The U.S. girl group 'Southern Chick' became the biggest winners of this year's Grammys, taking home five awards, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Country Duo/Group Performance, and Best Country Album.
The Best New Artist award went to Carrie Underwood, who also won the Best Female Country Vocal Performance award.
Link and James Blunt left empty-handed.
That evening, back at Bay Villa, Link opened a letter and gifts from Taylor.
Since he began corresponding with Taylor, the two maintained regular contact. They continued using the old-fashioned method of letter writing.
Link had told Taylor he was Chinese and didn't live in Los Angeles often; sometimes, his responses would be delayed. Taylor didn't mind, regarding him as a pen pal to discuss music with. Since the beginning of the year, they had averaged one letter exchange per month.
Whenever Link attended events or promotions in the area, he would take time to reply to her.
Last year, Taylor joined Big Machine Records and released her debut single "Tim McGraw" in June. The single eventually reached number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. In October, she released her debut album "Taylor Swift," which sold 40,000 copies in its first week and ranked 19th on the Billboard 200 chart.
With her Southern accent in her singing, blending sweetness with nasal tones, and her adorable appearance, she was hailed by media as the 'Country Princess.'
At the moment, she had achieved modest fame in the U.S. music scene.
In her letter, Taylor mentioned she had received an invitation to serve as the opening act for George Strait's concert tour. She sounded thrilled.
George Strait, known as the 'King of Country Music,' was an iconic figure.
Taylor, only 17 years old this year, landing the role of opening act for his concert was indeed a significant achievement.
Taylor also mentioned she planned to come to Los Angeles this year and asked when Link would be around; she was eager to meet him.
Her gift to Link included a copy of her album "Taylor Swift" and her autograph.
Link placed the album inside his record player and picked up a pen to write back to Taylor. He congratulated her on her album's success and mentioned he had been keeping an eye on her new work, praising her impressive performance while advising her to focus on composing regularly to build a solid repertoire.
As for their meeting, he wrote that he wasn't sure of his schedule but hoped there would be an opportunity in the future.
After finishing the letter, Link sketched a portrait of Taylor with a pencil—a skill he had learned during his solitude on Mars—and enclosed it in the envelope, asking Simmons, his housekeeper, to mail the letter to Taylor the following day.
Link stayed in the U.S. for only two days this trip before heading back to Capital City to celebrate the Lunar New Year and watch the 79th Academy Awards from home.
Finally, Leonardo's film "The Departed" won Best Picture, and Martin Scorsese secured the Best Director title for the film.
Forest Whitaker won Best Actor for "The Last Dictator," becoming the fourth Black actor to receive this honor.
British actress Helen Mirren won Best Actress for her role in "The Queen."
"Marie Antoinette" won Best Costume Design, while the German film "The Lives of Others" won Best Foreign Language Film.
"Curse of the Golden Flower" was nominated but didn't win.
In March, Link released his second English-language album "Keep On Movin'" both domestically and internationally. Domestic sales were moderate, with only 125,000 copies sold in Mainland during the first week, as media reports suggested that most buyers were high school or university students who purchased the album to practice English listening.
Sales in Hong Kong Island and Taiwan Island totaled 342,000 copies, with the songs "Give Me Reason" and "Believer" consecutively topping the regional singles charts.
In Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and other Asian regions, the album's first-week sales reached 527,000 copies, ranking in the top three of national album charts in six countries. The reception was excellent, with many fans commenting that Link's English rock singing was full of passion.
In Western markets, the album performed well, selling 634,000 units in its debut week globally.
In the U.S., the album sold 156,000 copies, achieving 3rd place on the Billboard 200 chart. Several tracks, including "Give Me Reason," "Believer," "Trouble I'm In," "Keep On Movin'", and "This Is Me," entered the Billboard Hot 100 list.
"Give Me Reason" peaked at number two, while "Believer" reached the top spot, staying at number one for two non-consecutive weeks. "This Is Me" also debuted at number one.
Due to the high quality and widespread popularity of tracks like "Give Me Reason" and "Believer," Link's new album became a sensation in the U.S., with the second-week sales increasing to 168,000 copies, moving up to 2nd place on the album chart.
In Britain, "Keep On Movin'" debuted with 103,000 copies sold in its first week, ranking first on the album sales chart. The tracks "Give Me Reason," "Believer," "Trouble I'm In," and others entered the top 30 on the UK Singles Chart.
In France, Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands, and other regions, album sales exceeded 30,000 copies.
According to Warner Records statistics, the album sold approximately 1.636 million copies globally in its first week—a remarkable achievement, setting numerous music industry records.
After its launch, Link traveled to more than 10 locations for album signing and promotional events.
A month after its release, "Keep On Movin'" sold over 1 million units in the U.S. and 5.37 million globally, significantly boosting Link's reputation in the Western music scene.
In April, the Hong Kong Film Awards were held at the Hong Kong Cultural Center Grand Theater. "Curse of the Golden Flower" garnered 10 nominations.
Link was invited by the event organizers to attend and won two awards—the Best Newcomer and Best Original Film Song Award.
In addition, "Curse of the Golden Flower" also won Best Actress, Best Art Direction, and Best Costume Design.
In mid-April, the Super Middleweight Boxing Championship began, involving six boxers: Link, Joe Calzaghe, Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler, Roy Jones Jr., and Bernard Hopkins.
The first round featured 3v3 matches.
In this round, Link faced the 38-year-old Roy Jones Jr.
The bout took place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. After three rounds, at 32 seconds into the third round, Link knocked down Roy Jones Jr. again, causing his coach to throw in the towel and concede.
Link successfully advanced to the next round.
The other two matches in May and June saw Joe Calzaghe defeat Bernard Hopkins in a full 12-round fight on points.
Meanwhile, the WBA Super Middleweight Champion Mikkel Kessler fought Carl Froch in a bloody match that lasted 12 rounds, with Kessler narrowly winning on points.
By August, through negotiations between their respective companies, Link flew to Copenhagen, Denmark, for the championship unification fight against Mikkel Kessler.
In the match against Kessler, Link knocked the opponent down twice in the third round, with the second blow leaving him unable to rise within 10 seconds.
Link won the second-round bout, becoming the unified WBA-WBC Super Middleweight Champion.
In October, Link flew to London, Britain, for another championship unification match between the four major boxing organizations.
Facing Joe Calzaghe, Link ended the match in just four rounds, forcing the opponent to bleed heavily from his eyebrow ridge in the fourth round, prompting the referee to end the bout.
Link decisively claimed victory, becoming the unified champion across the four major organizations in the Super Middleweight division, following his prior achievement in the Middleweight class.
Link's reputation in the world of boxing soared dramatically. Not only did boxing enthusiasts admire him, but many ordinary people also came to know him as a formidable boxer.
Through three matches, Link earned approximately $112 million in prize money.
