Domination in America, Starting from being a Boxing Champion-Chapter 794 - 574: Everyday in the Office (Extra Update for the Overlord Patron ’Freeloader Rice Worm’)_2
Link shook his head, "You're too impatient. Competing for the Oscars is about accumulating points. You've been nominated twice before, which is like having 2 points. With a few more nominations, you'll eventually get there. Just don't rush it."
"Jennifer won the first time she was nominated, and she is two years younger than I am," said Emma Stone.
Link rubbed his forehead and looked at Ms. Mandy approaching, "How should I refute her?"
Ms. Mandy laughed, "Emma, every time you see him, you ask about the Oscar. Be careful or he might be too scared to meet with you next time."
"Are you that timid?" Emma Stone said with a hand covering her mouth, laughing.
"I just find you annoying," Link retorted.
"Humph, I'm not asking you for an Oscar. I'm asking if it's possible to get an Oscar earlier by sleeping with you?" Emma Stone asked with a twinkle in her eye.
Link's face darkened, "When have I ever slept with anyone for favors? You'd better make that clear."
"Okay, it was just a joke. You're not angry now, are you?" Emma Stone stuck out her tongue and asked cautiously.
Link shook his head. In the past, he would not have cared about Emma Stone making such a joke, but with the recent explosion of sexual harassment scandals in the entertainment industry and many women standing up with the #MeToo banner, there were already some early signs of the #MeToo movement. If someone else heard what Emma Stone said, when the #MeToo movement arrived, he might get dragged into it and become an innocent victim.
"If you want to win Best Supporting Actress, there's a slight chance next year. If you want to be Best Actress, wait another two years. The company has a nice project coming up, a musical, and the lead role is perfect for you."
"Really?! Boss, thank you, no, Link, thank you!" Emma Stone jumped up in excitement, hugging his arm and giving him two kisses on the face.
"Hey, restrain yourself, will you? Don't take advantage of me, okay? And now you've got lipstick on my face. Are you trying to make Eva think I'm cheating on her?" Link touched his face, which now had a bright red mark on his palm.
"Haha, I just called you Link, consider it a kiss of friendship. If Eva misunderstands, I can explain it for you. Mandy's still here, what are you afraid of?" Emma Stone laughed.
"You're only twenty-six and have already been nominated for the Golden Globes and Oscars many times, improving year after year. I don't know why you're in such a hurry to get an Oscar. Planning to retire early?"
"Link, don't forget you're a year younger than me and now ranked 37th on Forbes Billionaires List, a world-class megastar. I'm your fan. Shouldn't I learn from you?" said Emma Stone with a gleeful smile.
"So it's all my fault?" Link asked helplessly.
"Jennifer, what brings you here?" Ms. Mandy called out towards the entrance.
Jennifer Lawrence walked in wearing a sleeveless red dress, carefree, wearing high heels and a dress as comfortably as if she were wearing a T-shirt and jeans, with her voluptuous figure.
"I just did a promotion at the adjacent Turner Television Network and stopped by for a drink. Link, Emma, you guys are here too?"
Jennifer took off her high heels and tiptoed to sit down on the couch.
Ms. Mandy poured her a warm cup of tea.
"I came to discuss work with Mandy," said Link.
"The same for me, just got back from a promotion," said Emma Stone.
"That's quite a coincidence, it's been a while since we sat down for tea together," Jennifer said with a smile.
"You're all so busy, hardly any time to relax throughout the year. But it's better to stay busy, the competition in the entertainment industry is fierce these days, and those who idle away will gradually be eliminated."
Mandy laughed.
"This is true, back when there were no films to shoot, I was so anxious. I thought if one day I became a star and shot ten films a year, even if I died of exhaustion on set, I'd have no regrets," said Emma Stone.
"I'm not as hardworking as you. I'd be satisfied with shooting five films a year," Jennifer Lawrence said, waving her finger with a smile.
Link listened to their chat from the side without interrupting randomly, only replying a sentence or two when they asked him something.
Right now, Emma Stone is promoting "Birdman", and Jennifer Lawrence is promoting the soon-to-be-released "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1".
Their conversation also revolved around films, and they casually mentioned some gossip in the entertainment circle, like who's having an affair with whom, and who's breaking up because of someone else interjecting.
There was also the recent high-profile Hollywood X-photo leak, where foreign hackers exploited a vulnerability in Apple's iCloud system to illegally steal numerous revealing photos of globally popular actresses, which were then posted on online forums.
This sort of incident had already caused a stir at the beginning of 2011 when private photos of over a hundred women were exposed.
This time it was even more extensive, including Scarlett Johansson, Rihanna, Hayden Panettiere, Kim Kardashian, Avril Lavigne, Emily Browning, Winona Ryder, Amber Heard, Nina Dobrev, Kirsten Dunst, and other popular actresses, as well as supermodels like Kate Upton, Ali Michael, and Kara Divai.
The hacker started in September, releasing batches of private photos periodically, and so far, the nude photos of 101 actresses have been leaked.
Initially, Jennifer Lawrence also liked to take photos with her phone while working and taking baths.
But she switched to using a camera after Link advised her, as it's somewhat safer.
This wave of X-photo leaks also affected Link Music's singer Ariana Grande, thankfully, not many photos were revealed.
The hacker also released several photos of Selena in swimsuits. The little round-faced girl found her phone's photo album had also been hacked and was seen blushing, unable to lift her head all day.
Recently, both the FBI and Apple have been investigating the hackers, which might calm things down for a while.
After chatting for a while, Emma Stone received a call and left early for work. Link was about to leave when Jennifer Lawrence insisted on taking him to the office to show off the new battle outfit of the main character Katniss.
Link didn't refuse, and after heading to the office, they fooled around for a bit before parting ways.
Jennifer continued promoting the film, while Link continued training and caring for his child, preparing for the competition in December.
In mid-November, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" was released worldwide, with North American presale box office reaching between $130 million and $160 million, breaking the record of "Transformers 4" for the highest first-weekend box office at $100 million.
The weekend three-day take in North America was $129 million in US dollars, although it was $20 million less than the second installment's opening, it was still the highest-grossing film of the year on its premiere.
The first week's North American box office was $175 million in US dollars.
In eight and a half days since the release, the North American box office broke $200 million, also making it the fastest film of the year to do so, three hours quicker than "Guardians of the Galaxy".
It's also the seventh film from Lionsgate Films this year to break $100 million at the North American box office.
Internationally, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" was released in 97 countries and territories, breaking $200 million in the box office in six days.
As of now, two weeks after release, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" has a global box office of $620 million US dollars, with a projected total box office of around $900 million.
That's $200 million less than the second installment's total box office.
The primary reason is that Lionsgate, the production company, divided the third installment into two parts, causing dissatisfaction among many fans, which impacted the box office figures.
But overall, it's profitable. Dividing one film into two increases the total box office significantly, a common practice for franchises nowadays; "Harry Potter" and "Twilight" did the same, and "The Hunger Games" is following suit.
The films that executed this strategy the best undeniably are "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy; if released ten years later in 3D, they could have easily been divided into six parts.
After the successful release of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1", Lionsgate Films' total box office for the year reached $1.65 billion US dollars.
After "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" concludes its run, the North American total box office is expected to accumulate to approximately $1.8 billion US dollars.
With the upcoming release of "American Hustle" in December, Lionsgate Films' total North American box office this year is expected to reach $2 billion US dollars, with a global box office possibly exceeding $5 billion US dollars.
Last year, Disney Pictures, with the best performance had an annual total box office of $1.831 billion US dollars, this year Disney's total is below $1.6 billion, and the other five major studios are also below $1.6 billion.
From current data, Lionsgate Films has a very good chance of topping the North American annual total box office chart for the first time in film history, surpassing the established Big Six Studios to become the industry leader.
The American Film Institute Report states that this will be a year that changes the Hollywood landscape.
Even so, Link and the staff at Lionsgate Films didn't dare pop the champagne midway.
The Big Six Studios still have several blockbusters scheduled for December, and there's a chance for a turnaround.
Lionsgate must wait until the last film is successfully distributed, and truly become the box office champion, before they can celebrate with champagne.
