Divine Doctor and His CEO Wife-Chapter 175: Seen Through!
"Keep your voice down," Chen Xiao whispered.
Li Kani pursed her red lips. "You... you have a way to save my father?"
Their voices were very low, and to an outsider, it might have looked like they were whispering intimately.
Jessie cast a displeased glance at Chen Xiao. As a mother, she didn’t approve of her daughter getting involved with a man of unknown origin. After all, the Li family’s assets were substantial, and her innocent daughter, Li Kani, was the heir to that fortune. She feared someone with ill intentions might try to get close to her, so she naturally had to keep a close watch.
"Kani, is this gentleman a friend of yours?" Jessie asked.
"He is," Li Kani answered, her face flushing when she realized her mother had misunderstood. "Just a friend."
Jessie wasn’t convinced. How could a simple friend make her daughter blush?
Chen Xiao paid no attention to the mother-daughter conversation, his gaze fixed straight ahead where an old man was taking Li Zhenfang’s pulse.
After a long while, the man finally spoke. "Madam, Mr. Li’s illness is quite serious. I can only do my best, but as for the outcome... we can only leave it to fate. As for whether to try or not, that is for you both to decide."
Jessie and Li Kani’s expressions turned grave. They hadn’t expected the situation to be so severe.
"Aunt, Cousin, Old Wei is a Divine Doctor, a true hidden master! I think we can trust him. Otherwise, all the effort I put into persuading him to come out of his retirement would be wasted, wouldn’t it?"
The young man’s name was Zheng Fei, the son of Li Kani’s paternal aunt. Since Li Zhenfang had watched him grow up, he and Li Kani were as close as siblings. He was also currently managing a portion of the Li family’s businesses.
Li Kani hesitated.
Seeing her hesitation, the man known as Old Wei said, "Since Miss Li is hesitant, then let’s forget it. After all, I’m not completely certain of success myself. It’s best if I don’t get involved in this matter!" With that, he turned to Zheng Fei. "Young Zheng, it seems your kind intentions are not being appreciated."
Zheng Fei smiled faintly. "Old Wei, you jest. My cousin is simply having trouble making a quick decision."
Old Wei shook his head, feigning disappointment. "Forget it. Since the Li Family doesn’t trust me, there’s no need for me to offer my help only to be snubbed."
With that, he made a show of flicking his sleeves and turning to leave.
Zheng Fei hurriedly intercepted him. "Old Wei, please don’t take offense. If you can cure my uncle, I’m willing to offer a reward of ten million!"
Jessie also gritted her teeth. "Old Wei, please, cure my husband. The Li Family will ensure that ten million is transferred to your account!"
"Since you are so sincere... then I shall reluctantly offer my assistance this once." With that, he moved in front of Li Zhenfang, ready to begin the treatment.
But just then, Chen Xiao’s voice cut in. "I’d like to ask what exactly you’ve diagnosed."
Old Wei looked at him with disdain. "You wouldn’t understand even if I told you. How could a greenhorn like you possibly grasp the profound depths of our traditional medicine?"
Chen Xiao suddenly sneered. "Old Wei, are you *really* a practitioner of traditional medicine?"
At these words, both Old Wei’s and Zheng Fei’s eyelids twitched.
Old Wei flew into a rage. "What did you say?!"
Chen Xiao continued to sneer. "You have a very particular scent about you... a scent that only those who practice Gu Cultivation carry. And Mr. Li has that very same scent on him! You’re the one who poisoned him, aren’t you?!"
As his words fell, a dead silence descended upon the room.
Chen Xiao laughed again. "What’s wrong? Looks like I guessed correctly."
