Chapter 1984: Chapter 1985: The Gloomy Passage

Feng Yuan had no intention of standing out; he brought Xiao Ji and the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound directly into a corner. As for rushing into the interior of the Ancient Stone Palace like those others?

He wasn’t in such a hurry. This venture inside the Ancient Stone Palace only allowed for 2 hours of activity. Feng Yuan estimated that the space inside was not large, otherwise, the academy wouldn’t limit the time so stringently.

Similarly, considering this situation, Feng Yuan suspected they’d encounter enemies after just a few steps; otherwise, this place would have no danger at all.

What surprised Feng Yuan was that at this moment, senior students were trying to organize teams. However, they weren’t splitting solely based on strength. They were also considering forming teams with familiar individuals to act together.

"This is a common approach when multiple strangers excavate Ancient Ruins together outdoors..."

Dou Yanlan looked at the group with a puzzled expression and said that forming teams with familiar people and having several teams of strangers operate in an area is a universal method discovered when strangers find Ancient Ruins.

After all, no one can definitively say how dangerous Ancient Ruins are inside. At times like this, nobody dares to casually trust their back to a stranger. Yet, as demonstrated by the distribution of students from various grades within the Ancient Stone Palace, outdoors, unless the region is deeply out in the wild, generally among so many people, there are only a few who are significantly strong.

According to the principle advocated by the Alliance and Great Xia of appropriately assisting strangers without harming one’s own interests, they can’t completely ignore others.

Thus emerged the current allocation scheme: more powerful teams lead several weaker teams for exploration. Typically, in such situations, stronger teams can be divided into multiple groups, and it happens to be the case now.

Feng Yuan stroked his chin and glanced at Tamur and Veronia behind him and said,

"Hmm, this is a bit tricky; they seem unaware of our strength, but nevermind, let’s go."

Glancing at those people, Feng Yuan said to Qi Chen and the others, intending to see how they’d manage - whether they’d team up with friends and haphazardly charge into the Ancient Stone Palace’s interior or organize themselves with leaders guiding the exploration.

But neither seemed to be the case; although they formed leading teams, it was just a minimal mutual understanding, helping nearby teams only when it didn’t risk their safety.

This doesn’t mean they’d manage surrounding teams; if someone acts recklessly, they’re powerless.

Of course, for newcomers, this might be the best choice; however, Feng Yuan wasn’t sure about the Ancient Stone Palace’s situation, as he hadn’t been there before.

If there were numerous traps inside, scattered teams might trigger them more often.

Though that’s not much of an issue, Feng Yuan could ensure his team wouldn’t be affected. Meanwhile, to avoid trouble, he decided to enter with Qi Chen and the others; as for the chaotic crowd?

He thought it best to steer clear and avoid situations.

Qi Chen didn’t quite understand Feng Yuan’s perspective, but he didn’t oppose Feng Yuan’s suggestion either. Even with senior students organizing teams, the current arrangement didn’t feel good to him, perhaps "Mob" describes this scenario?

"This seems to mimic the Ganye Empire’s relics? That shouldn’t belong to the Divine Land region?"

Veronia glanced at the peculiar patterns drawn on the passage edge and said curiously; the Ganye Empire wasn’t a dynasty from the Divine Land region, but an ancient dynasty from the Omeilia region.

Its appearance here puzzled Veronia, as the academy’s teaching content shouldn’t be targeting outdoor survival in the Divine Land region. Why was something from the Omeilia region present?

Feng Yuan stroked his chin and said,

"Maybe because everyone is unfamiliar with this, they could use the chance to set up many special traps?"

Different regions have varied civilizations with distinct mechanisms and security measures. Trying to memorize all trap characteristics through rote learning for investigation and cracking isn’t the right choice.

The academy aims to warn students against overly relying on the trap knowledge taught from textbooks?

Feng Yuan shook his head and stopped thinking about it; he glanced at several nearby passage entrances and randomly chose one that seemed pleasing to enter.

The walls on both sides depicted a multitude of odd lines, seemingly mixed with other substances in the pigments forming these lines. As Feng Yuan temporarily halted his illumination Ultimate Move, the lines glowed with a delicate green light in the darkness.

"This thing... probably isn’t just for decoration."

Grabbing his chin, Feng Yuan reactivated his illumination Ultimate Move. Under the firelight’s illumination, the abundance of eye patterns created an eerie and terrifying vibe.

Though the eye patterns weren’t inherently frightening, being merely two horizontal arcs encasing a circle, somehow, Qi Chen felt a chill down his spine from the simplistic eye design.

Due to limitations in this place, Ah Mu couldn’t effectively protect Qi Chen, while Hao Chun Bird perched on Qi Chen’s shoulder vigilantly looked around; both Ah Mu and it sensed something amiss here.

Hao Chun Bird’s capabilities weren’t enough to detect where the danger truly hid.

Dou Yanlan walked over to Qi Chen’s side and said,

"Be cautious; Spirit Beasts have acute perception. Something might be lurking here, maybe it’s Ghost Series Spirit Beasts."

The most common sightings within Ancient Ruins are various Ghost Series Spirit Beasts. Besides Ghost Series, even Spirit Beasts whose habitats are deep underground wouldn’t linger long.

It’s not only about food source issues; strange devices inside Ancient Ruins are reasons wild Spirit Beasts dislike them. Only Ghost Series Spirit Beasts are unique. Historically, the ruins’ mechanisms often weren’t especially effective against Ghost Series Spirit Beasts, and many times, they devised means specifically targeting Ghost Series Spirit Beasts to compensate.

Thus, Dou Yanlan estimated a high possibility of Ghost Series Spirit Beasts appearing, as that’s a common sighting in most ruins. Yet, concerning relics from specific dynasties, Dou Yanlan was uncertain.

Not to mention there were countless dynasties in the Divine Land region. The academy selected a relic model from another region. Normally, neither laypeople nor archaeologists have much understanding of it.

After all, they don’t forcefully memorize details of all ancient civilizations globally - they lack that ability and it’s a waste of time.

"Doesn’t seem like Ghost Series Spirit Beasts."

Glancing at Xiao Ji, Feng Yuan reminded: if it were Ghost Series Spirit Beasts, Xiao Ji would react. As a Death Series Divine Beast, typical Ghost Series Spirit Beasts couldn’t easily conceal themselves from Xiao Ji.

No way, Death Series directly counteracts Ghost Series. Xiao Ji could even vaguely sense the presence of Ghost Series Spirit Beasts of Legendary Level strength.

Yet, Xiao Ji showed no reaction now; the weird feeling obviously wasn’t from Ghost Series Spirit Beasts.

Thinking so, Feng Yuan approached the wall and touched an eye pattern with his hand.

The cold stone texture held no anomaly. As he looked at his hand, there wasn’t any pigment dust.

"Feng Yuan, discover anything?"

Qi Chen noticed Feng Yuan’s action and asked in doubt. The patterns seemed problem-free; they were merely odd lines composed of simplified contours. Based on Ancient Ruins traits, they didn’t look like energy circuits or anything peculiar.

"Not right! Look at the dot representing the eyeball!"

Dou Yanlan noticed something, focused her gaze, and exclaimed. Following Dou Yanlan’s direction, Feng Yuan frowned slightly and said,

"That thing doesn’t seem problematic; the material matches what other patterns use."

"Not about that – the thing moves!"

Dou Yanlan signaled Cotton to prepare for action while loudly speaking. Startled by Dou Yanlan’s words, Feng Yuan and Qi Chen looked at the eye pattern; it showed no change, as if Dou Yanlan was joking with them.

"Curious device, what’s its true purpose?"

Veronia muttered while sitting atop her Rainbow Bubbles; unlike Feng Yuan and them, she did see that the dot indicating the eyeball moved. But, what’s the point of doing that?
