Divine Artifact in a Scientific World-Chapter 71: First Day (1)
Chapter 71: First Day (1)
Even though Jack’s hotel room was within walking distance of the NSU campus, he was still running late. Miranda had been staying with him ever since the first day of viewing houses and had proven to be insatiable.
She seemed almost desperate to have his cock inside her, and her hunger for him was not merely intoxicating, but addictive. So addictive that yet another "just one more time" had left him running late.
Just as he was entering the large auditorium of his first class of the morning, sociology 101, he heard a female voice behind him say, "You’re late!"
Like you’re not?! He thought.
Feeling a spike of anger at the woman’s supercilious tone, he stopped dead, right in the doorway. Not expecting him to stop so suddenly, the woman bumped into his back, making a squawk of surprise as she did.
When he turned, he found himself glaring at an older woman clutching a leather folio and glaring back at him indignantly. She opened her mouth to say something, but he spoke first.
"You’re one to talk. Being late yourself," he declared.
Her face scrunched up like she’d just bit into a lemon and, for a moment, it looked like she was going to say something unpleasant, but then her expression shifted to one of faint chagrin.
"I apologize, young man. You are right. As I am late, I have no right berating you, who has arrived ahead of me."
Then she adopted a more stern look and said, "Now please take your seat. I have a class to teach."
Oh, wow! He thought, as he turned and headed into the auditorium. I just reprimanded the professor! Though he figured if she was willing to apologize, she couldn’t be too bad. He had read that some professors could be exceedingly arrogant and unreasonable, but maybe she wasn’t one of them. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
The auditorium had two entrances, one at the back and one down at the front. He was entering through the door down at the front, so he noticed that many of the students were watching him as he made his way to a seat near the middle.
When he sat, the girl sitting to his left leaned over and whispered, "Did Battle Ax Broadmoor just apologize to you?!" The girl sounded incredulous.
Battle Ax Broadmoor? Was this professor one of the unreasonable ones?
"Yes," he said. "Is that unusual?"
"Unusual!?!" the girl exclaimed, causing the students near them to turn and look at her.
Then in a quieter voice she said, "She has a reputation for being unreasonably strict. She’ll never accept a late paper, even if your parents just died in a car crash. There are rumors that some students found errors in one of her tests and she refused to acknowledge it, marking them wrong anyway."
Then she looked at him with a twinkle in her eye that reminded him a little of the way Miranda looked at him and said, "How did you do it? Are you the son of the Dean of something?"
"No, I’m no one special."
"Well, either way, I’m impressed." then she held out her hand and said, "I’m Robin. What’s your name?"
When the girl said her name, he thought about one of the girls he’d asked out, the one that later told Madison she didn’t remember him. Her name was also Robin. His first thought was that this girl and the other Robin just had the same name.
But when he looked at her face more closely, he realized she did resemble, that robin. Except this girl was slim and fit, and the Robin he’d asked out had been a little on the heavy side. Not obese, but not normal weight either.
While watching her face, he shook her hand and replied, "Jack."
When he said his name, she got a look of half recognition, then said, "Jack... Jack... There’s something about you..."
She was still holding his hand. Then she asked, "Did you, by chance, go to Forest Glen High school?"
"Yep," he nodded. He was beginning to suspect that this was the same Robin, and she looked good.
"Did you-"
"Ask out a girl named Robin last year, only to be rejected because my only friend lied to you about me?"
"It’s you!" she said. "Now I remember. I was in a bad place back then, so I didn’t really respond well to you. And I mostly forgot about it afterwards because of everything else going on."
At that moment, over the sound system they heard. "Is there something you’d like to share with the rest of the class?"
Jack turned and saw that Professor Broadmoor and the rest of the class were all staring at him. For a brief moment he felt like hunching down into his seat, but a quick review of the last few moments told him the professor had said nothing up until that point, that his and Robin’s conversation was not interrupting her lecture.
Annoyed that she was again trying to imply fault where there was none, he said, "Sure, why not? You hear the phrase, ’it’s a small world,’ but you never think much of it. Then you find out you’re sitting down next to a girl you asked out nearly two years ago, and-"
"We don’t have time for what I am sure is a fascinating story," the Professor interrupted disdainfully.
"Oh, I’m sorry," said Jack loudly, in a tone that made it clear he was not sorry. "It’s just that, since you had not yet started your lecture, I had no reason to think your question was rhetorical."
The professor’s face scrunched up like she was sucking on a lemon, just like at the doorway, then her face relaxed into a thoughtful look before she said, "No, you’re right. I had not yet started my lecture, so there was no reason to get snippy with you. But, now that I have all of your attention. We can begin."
Then she launched into an introduction of herself and a review of the syllabus as if nothing strange had happened. But all through the next fifty minutes, students would take surreptitious looks at Jack. Though neither Jack, nor any of the other students, noticed that those looking at him were disproportionately female.
As soon as Professor Broadmoor dismissed the class, Robin turned and grabbed his hand before he could get out of his seat.
"Jack, please wait," she said.
"I have another class in ten minutes, but you can talk to me while we walk, if you want."
