Chapter 97: Changing everything

The blinding light of the flashbang spread across the corridor, stunning all the Ridires that were there.

The only one that could prevent being blinded was the commandant, who had noticed the action anticipatedly and covered his eyes.

Casper didn’t lose more time there, he picked Alfar and Olaf, one in each shoulder. His legs faltered in the first steps, and he stumbled for some moments when he started to run away, but soon he got more steady.

Usually, he wouldn’t have the strength to carry both of them, but that powerful drug was still taking effect in his body, which caused his capacities to, at least, get doubled.

He was impressed by how useful that medicine called odin was, but he could not help but feel concerned about the collateral effects or what would be the consequences in his body afterward.

"Don’t think about it now. Just focus on the present. Unfortunately, what’s done is done, you can’t change this anymore."

He ran through the corridors with ease, since most of the Ridires were gathered in front of the Lab’s entrance, their distribution on the complex was completely messed up.

Casper used the memory he acquired after passing hours memorizing those maps he did, drawing restlessly every centimeter of that complex that he passed by.

With it, he could make his way to the infirmary without getting lost, and taking the shortest path that he knew.

In a moment like that, efficiency and practicality meant defeat or victory. He needed to get to the infirmary as fast as he could before the Ridires caught up with him.

When he arrived inside there, all the nurses looked at him. They got surprised to see him with a mask, but everybody knew that that was finally the day when Casper would lose his freedom.

The prison was big, but it seemed to make the news spread faster than normal.

"C-Casper?" Amelia got out of the room she stayed the most, generally taking care of the bureaucratic and administrative part of the infirmary. She walked hastily towards Casper, worried about his mask, but also with the two men he was carrying.

"Amelia, I need you to make them be able to run. They are very worn out. Probably there might be some injuries by bullets and some bruises; internal bleeding is a certainty at least on Alfar." He walked deeper into the place, leaning them without questioning onto two beds that were there.

The Dark elf was indeed bleeding very hard. Olaf was injured, but in a few points, and had a huge cock on the forehead.

"W-what? Hey, what’s going on, Casper? And how you expect me to take care of two people so quickly and make them be able to run? That’s impossible, especially in Alfar’s case!" Amelia yelled at him, seemingly furious.

Casper took something from the pocket of his lab coat, lending it to her quickly. He wandered through the infirmary until he found a box of tools and took two scalpels from inside there.

"That’s... That’s odin, Casper..." The nurse said, amazed. "I can treat them with this but..."

"Great," he interrupted. "Then, take care of them as quickly as possible because we are in a real hurry."

He kept the scalpels in his lab coat, each one in a pocket from both sides. After he was satisfied, he picked the cube-shaped master key and began to type in the keyboard that appeared after activating it.

The nurses got more confused and whispered at each other, pretending that they were working on something else. However, they were clearly agitated because of Casper’s behavior. Even the soldier was aware that his actions were being quite weird.

"Casper," relentless, Amelia approached the soldier, forcing him to turn his face to her and look at her eyes. "You didn’t respond to my first question, so I will say it clearly and slowly: What’s... happening... here!?"

The White warrior made some thriller, looking at her with serious eyes. He brushed her hand off and turned completely his body towards Amelia.

"It’s time to seal our deal, Amelia. You remember what I told you, right? I can help you change everything, and that’s what is happening now. The real important question here is: Are you in?" His voice was firm and inquisitive. He wore off the mask to Amelia to see his expression.

The nurse gulped, stopping for a while, getting nervous with the bruskly inquisition. However, she was more than used to pressure, and it was not Casper who would make her falter.

She sighed, closing her eyes, then opened them again, this time her expression turned to one that was just filled with concern and uncertainty.

"Are you sure that you can change everything, White warrior?"

Casper giggled, finding it funny to be so underestimated.

"Of course! I am doing it now." He put on the mask again and then started typing on the holographic keyboard again.

"Ok. What do you need me to do?" She asked, more spirited than before.

"For now, just do your best to heal these two. You will sort out the rest by yourself, I promise."

"Got it." Without any more questions, she moved towards the two injured prisoners and started to treat them hastily.

She took the drug that Casper had lend to her and dosed the medication.

Odin was a type of medicine that could be used as a pill and in its liquid form as well. It was applied directly in the vein and had immediate effects.

However, its manipulation was very dangerous, particularly because of the collateral effects, that came for random people and had not a pattern that they could discover.

The dosage needed to be measured carefully, and it depended not just on the weight but the body condition overall of the patient.

"You two, I need to know how is their status to be able to dose it right. Find someone to help to connect the devices. I need someone to help me to stop the bleeding, particularly in Alfar. Casper wasn’t pranking when he said that he needed these two ready to run or even fight right now, so let’s do it right." She clapped her hands, rushing the nurses, who ran through the infirmary trying to follow the orders as they could.

Casper was sure that Amelia would handle it well. After all, she was the head nurse of the tents in the war. She needed to treat hundreds of soldiers every day and let them prepared to act again if possible.

She probably was used to treating people in situations as bad as Alfar’s, always in a hurry, and with the uncertainty of pass her days in a place that could be invaded and attacked any time.

That was what medical tents in the war were in Casper’s world, and he knew that it could be the same in District 42 as well.

When the nurses were finishing preparing their things to initiate the procedure, someone rushed inside the infirmary.

At that sight, Casper hid crouching on the ground between the beds of that local. It was not a good place to hide, but whoever entered there would need to crouch to see him, or be very tall.

Who entered was the commandant of the Ridire troops that were guarding the laboratory.

The man arrived in a hurry, with his gun in his hands. The black and red rifle seemed to be more threatening than it ever was before. At the sight of that thing, Casper felt his heart rush, his head was heavier. He didn’t take his eyes off that.

"That’s it." He gulped. "If he sees me, I will just stay alive if he wants, or if I am lucky." He leaned even more his body against the floor, paying attention to the commandant’s legs, which were sliding on the ground very calmly.

"He is a cold person. I can’t underestimate him."

The man walked deeply in the infirmary, looking left to right, then stopping his eyes at the nurses. Amelia was among them, and gave a step forward, puffing her chest and looking to him displeased.

"Where is the White warrior?" He asked, in a deep and slow voice. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"Why is a dog wandering around my infirmary?" She asked, coldly, with her usual sharp tongue.

"I asked, where is the White warrior?" He stepped forward as well, trying to intimidate her.

Amelia, though, was no woman to be threatened by plain men like him. All that she could see there was nothing but a man with an average voice trying to act like he was competent.

"And I asked to YOU." She pointed her finger at him, narrowing her eyes. "Why is a freaking dog wandering around MY infirmary!?"

The warrior sighed, looking to her with bothered eyes and tightening his grip onto the rifle.

"So, I think we will do it differently." He walked some steps forward, approaching the nurse, then raised slightly his rifle. It was not aimed at Amelia, but for the patient behind her: Alfar.

"Do I need to repeat the question, head nurse?"
