Chapter 389: Virtual God

Casper saw the King’s expression changing bit by bit until it turned into pure wrath. The soldier prepared for anything that could come but didn’t back away. He maintained his posture and didn’t let a trace of doubt or regret on his face.

Since he already dared to do it, he would go until the very end.

"What the hell did you say!?" The King shouted, losing completely his cool.

Casper held Gungnir in front of him, tightening his grip even more.

"I said that I won’t give it back to you. You, idiot, don’t deserve to have such a powerful thing in your hands. Not if you will enslave your own folk with it again."

The King stuttered for a moment. He was used to having everything under control. He could predict and watch everything with Gungnir while inside his Castle. He was the man that could control the destiny of all other men in all the district!

Even so, that nuisance of a warrior made this to him without him ever expecting so. The King couldn’t predict such a turn of tables. That was why he got so shocked.

His wife couldn’t utter a word beside him.

Vick, who was still in the carriage, looked flabbergasted at Casper.

Camilla, still kneeling on the ground, finally revealed her face to the guards, adjusting her hair. What was there wasn’t an expression of frustration and sadness, but a confident smile. Her eyes shone with happiness as she looked at Casper.

’This bastard... that’s what you meant when talking about trust in you, huh? But I have the feeling that you are not entirely acting in favor of the Frelsis...’

"Y-You traitor!" The King screamed. His dignified posture disappeared, being replaced by blind rage. He himself seemed to be about to rip off Casper’s head.

"Ridires, take him!"

The warriors around took their guns and aimed at Casper, prepared to shoot, but they found a barrier being formed around Casper. A human barrier.

All the six Ridires stood around him while taking their guns and showing that they weren’t going to let them hurt Casper.

"W-What!? What happened to you, bastards? Are you drunk or something?"

They didn’t utter a word about that and just stood beside the White warrior. They didn’t dare to look at the King nor the Ridires that admired them so much. Nonetheless, they have made up their minds.

"Thank you, everyone," Casper muttered.

They nodded their heads.

The soldier was relieved. He wasn’t expecting that the Aesirs would stand beside him. It wasn’t planned at all. However, although that situation was shocking, they learned that the soldier was someone that they could trust. That’s why they didn’t hesitate to protect him until he explained himself and they judged whether it was a reasonable thing or not.

"Don’t get me wrong, King Leif. I am not a Frelsi. Definitely, my ideals are different from theirs... However, I am not an Aesir or Jarl either! I am nothing but the man who wants to fight for the right thing and I will go against gods if it is what I need to do!"

The King faltered for a moment, nearly taking a step back after the strong statement of Casper.

The soldier turned away, taking his eyes off the King. He wasn’t the person that he should be talking to, anyway. On the contrary, Casper’s true target was the folk. All those people who were forced to live in that messy and unfair society.

"I am not fighting for freedom, nor tradition or some unreachable utopia here. I am fighting..." Casper pointed at them, "for you all! I am putting everything at stake because I want that you have all the rights you should have! That’s my only reason to be here today and to fight every day in this world where I do not belong!"

Both commoners and Jarls began to whisper among each other. What Casper said right now was even more shocking. He wasn’t on the Frelsis’ side, nor the Jarls’. Even so, he just affirmed that was fighting for them all this time.

How could it be? And even if it was true, why was Casper fighting for folk that he didn’t even belong to?

The White warrior knew that he wouldn’t be able to convince them without proving to them his intentions first.

Casper didn’t hold back to make what was right. He took Gungnir and looked intently at it.

"Hey, Yanke. Do you know exactly how we can activate this thing?"

[ Yes, Master. I know. I was working on learning it in those last days. I hope I can be of some help. ]

After Yanke said that, the white card on Casper’s hand, which seemed to be so ordinary at first, began to shine in a golden light.

Casper looked at it amazed, and not just him but all the other people around.

The only one that was showing nothing but anger was the King, who already knew about Gungnir’s effects.

"You bastaaaaaard!" was the last thing that Casper heard him saying before his mind went blank for a second.

The soldier opened his eyes just to find himself in a place that was and wasn’t at the same time. Somewhere existent and nonexistent, intangible yet tangible, visible but invisible.

[ Don’t try to think much about it, Master. This place is... or isn’t... somewhere that I cannot understand myself. Its existence... or nonexistence... is something entirely subjective. One can’t sort it out logically. ]

"The card created it?"

[ Yes. I don’t know how to address this place. Even if I call it a parallel dimension, it seems to be wrong. ]

"What am I doing here?" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

[ That’s how you will control things outside. You just need to converse... ]

"With who?"

[[ With me... ]]

A third party appeared, its voice echoed and shook that entire place, yet it was soothing enough to nobody heard it. Casper got a bit confused once hearing that voice.

"What are you?"

[[ God. ]]
