District 42-Chapter 351: Wayland
Casper looked at Wayland with a complicated expression. He didn’t know how to react to that information yet.
’Wayland is The Forger? I mean, I didn’t know him, to begin with. It is not shocking at all. I am just surprised that I got to know so suddenly someone I was for so long trying to find. I don’t even know where to start. Do I get angry? Maybe start to ask questions? It caught me off guard...’
Casper just remained silent for a couple of minutes, in the end. He decided to observe that man and analyze who exactly he was. He didn’t know whether the Forger was an enemy or not, after all. He couldn’t just act like everything was fine and that he would cooperate. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"You seem quite shocked like I was an intimate friend that hid a secret from you for a long time..." Wayland mocked him, raising one brow.
Casper didn’t know how to reply to that, so he kept his mouth shut. Even Yanke was finding the soldier’s behavior quite strange.
His Master had been searching for that guy for a long time. For him to not be able to say anything right now was just incoherent.
However, he didn’t have the same line of thought as Casper. The little robot had improved a lot regarding his intelligence and his perception of how human beings acted. However, he still had to comprehend how humans could be cruel and cunning.
No matter what Wayland said to him, it could just be a lie. Some facial expressions and gestures could betray his tentative to deceive the robot, but a good liar wouldn’t display this kind of thing.
"Well, then, I present to you the Forge42. It isn’t an original name, due to my own nickname right now, but it is suitable for its purposes." Wayland showed the huge computer with both hands as if he was trying to sell a product or something.
The smile on his unmasked face showed his pride in that technology.
"I am very glad that I got to see you today of all days, Casper. I would soon start to review the code lines of the masks’ programming. It will be fun to watch, don’t you think? After all, you were the only person that, after Drott and Inna, could somehow disable the masks’ effects. At least, for a short span of time. I couldn’t believe that you would be able to do such a thing with so few resources, but you could pull through!"
While he was talking, he seemed to look at an imaginary line in front of him. At the same time, digits began to appear crazy fast in the computer’s screen, folds were being accessed, passwords, accounts in different applications... It seemed like it was acting by itself.
When seeing that, Casper could suppose that The Forger was doing something inside his mind.
’Maybe it’s something similar to what Ari was doing before. However, he isn’t wearing any special technology right now.’
The White warrior, still cautious, approached little by little the Forge42, paying attention to what was happening on the screen, but glancing at Wayland from time to time.
The screen went black, and several letters and numbers began to appear on there in different colors. Casper was familiar with that part.
’That’s the part I needed to enter in order to change the code lines. The problem at that time was the perfect programming of this guy. The programming is made in order to recover itself from whatever flaw that appears. Even if I deleted several lines, it would recover suddenly. Also, depending on what I deleted, it could cause harm to the minds of the ones wearing the masks, so it wasn’t simple.’
Casper wasn’t the best programmer that he knew. There were people more talented than him in the Yanke Forces. Nonetheless, he could tell when he was seeing something amazing in this field or not.
"Look at it! I have been doing a work of years. Soon, the masks will be perfect! I mean, they are not perfect now, because someone could hack them two times. You and Inna, I mean. So, I needed to improve it to avoid these kinds of things, even though I know that it is an unlikely situation.
"Before, two geniuses got together and could beat me. They were probably the best programmer and mechanical of the district, it was one chance in a million for them to find each other. And you... well, you are something that I can’t complain about since your presence here is my fault."
Casper widened his eyes once he heard that. He wouldn’t let that information pass.
"What did you say?"
Wayland didn’t falter, nor lie. He just glanced at the soldier casually.
"I was talking about Inna and Drott, and the probability of..."
"After this."
"I said that I can’t complain. You are here because of me, after all."
The soldier lasted some seconds to absorb that information. He was trying to dissect that sentence and find out if he was seeing an unreal meaning there.
"You are saying that... this whole situation, my sudden teleportation to here... You are saying that..." He couldn’t find the words to express himself now.
"Hmm? I thought that you would have found out the truth by now. Maybe Vick and the others hid my existence and prevented you to collect information so badly like this? Man... those guys need to trust more people. Things would be easier if you already knew that."
Wayland said so while sighing and rolling his eyes. He had an annoyed expression but replaced it with his usual joyful one.
He scratched his head, turning to Casper slowly. He seemed like a kid going to tell something bad to his parents.
"Soooo, Casper... Yes, I am the one that made you get teleported from your world. If you are here, it’s because I needed you for something and... yeah... Surprise~!" He spoke, awkwardly.
