Disaster Apocalypse: Farming, Family, and My Hidden Secret Space-Chapter 79. Scaring people can scare someone to death.
Chapter 79: 79. Scaring people can scare someone to death.
After an hour, whether it was the effect of the ice cloth on his forehead or the medicine, Luo Song’s trembling finally slowly subsided.
Feeling Luo Song’s neck, it was still a bit warm but much better than before, at least there was no need to worry about any lasting effects from the fever.
Just as Hua Jin was about to replace the ice cloth, Luo Song, who had been in a deep sleep, fluttered his eyelids. His long eyelashes brushed against Hua Jin’s hand like soft feathers, prompting her to take a closer look and realize that he was waking up.
Breathed a sigh of relief while quickly retrieving items from the space; having a stranger around could be quite inconvenient, so it was best to be prepared.
As Hua Jin was arranging the items, the sickly young man with trembling eyelids finally opened his eyes, staring blankly at the carriage ceiling, as if wondering where and when he was.
His brain must still be recovering; the person seemed confused.
Hua Jin wasn’t in a hurry and let Luo Song’s consciousness gradually return.
But what happened next startled Hua Jin; she intended to let him regain awareness slowly, not scare him.
The fellow suddenly sat up without warning, then turned his head to look at her. It wouldn’t have been so frightening except that he was sitting in the dark, and the glow of the charcoal basin reflected red on his face. Paired with his dazed expression, it startled Hua Jin, causing her to lean back against the carriage.
It was the first time Hua Jin realized how truly terrifying people could be to one another.
Hua Jin patted her own chest to calm her startled heart, and couldn’t help but purse her lips at her reaction.
Thankfully, she didn’t scream; otherwise, she might have startled her father outside as well.
"Brother Luo Song... you’re... awake," feeling her reaction was too strong, Hua Jin awkwardly smiled and greeted him.
"You..." Luo Song was also gradually regaining awareness and was startled by the sudden appearance of the little girl in front of him.
So, he had been saved by someone.
The events from earlier flashed through his mind, and a glint of fierceness crossed his eyes.
This meant... someone didn’t want him to return home!
Recalling the discrepancies found in the accounts, Luo Song’s chilling eyes narrowed, but his fury was quickly interrupted by a violent cough.
"Cough..." What audacity, using and living off the Luo family and still attempting to harm him, daring to poison him.
Truly insatiable like a snake trying to swallow an elephant, Luo Song’s mind was already calculating while enduring the weakness.
Then he looked back at Hua Jin, finding her strangely familiar, but couldn’t remember immediately.
"Cough, cough... was it you who saved me?" Luo Song asked between coughs.
Hua Jin nodded, taking out a folded quilt from the side to prop Luo Song up.
The man before her looked extremely frail, evoking a bit of sympathy.
"Yes," Hua Jin nodded, "Young Master Luo Song, my father and I found you, and you had a fever. You’ve taken medicine."
"You... know me?" Luo Song’s mind was still a bit fuzzy, but he could still hear his own name and looked at the girl across from him in confusion.
"I’m Hua Yunao’s sister, we’ve met before." Hua Jin smiled lightly.
Luo Song was taken aback, recalling the little girl he’d seen days ago at the academy gate, and narrowed his eyes to see her delicate features under the dim firelight.
No wonder she looked familiar; she was indeed Hua Yunao’s sister.
He was saved by Hua Yunao’s father and sister, a situation that felt somewhat unbelievable.
"So it was the Hua family sister, apologies, my head is a bit muddled, and I didn’t recognize you at first." Luo Song attempted a smile, but with his dizziness, the attempt was more of a grimace.
"Thank you for saving me," Luo Song tried to bow, but as soon as he lowered his head, stars danced before his eyes, and his surroundings began to sway.
Noticing something wrong, Hua Jin promptly helped Luo Song lie back down.
"Young Master Luo Song, you’re still feverish. There’s no rush to express gratitude now; you can do so once you’re better. For now, just lie down and rest." She casually grabbed an ice cloth from outside the carriage and placed it on his forehead.
The cool sensation made Luo Song feel much more comfortable; the stars faded from his vision.
Fighting off the dizziness, Luo Song opened his eyes and offered Hua Jin a weak smile, saying "Thank you" once more.
"Young Master Luo Song, why did you collapse at the bridge?"
Hua Jin’s face was filled with curiosity; after all, she was just a child, and having a curiosity was normal, right?
The two in the carriage exchanged glances; it would indeed be dull and awkward if they didn’t speak.
"An unexpected incident; the carriage was startled and toppled off the bridge," Luo Song slowly explained with a slight smile.
"No wonder you were soaked, Young Master Luo Song. So you fell into the water. Do you feel any discomfort? You passed out, and my father carefully brought you onto the carriage, but we don’t know much beyond that."
"I’m fine," Luo Song understood Hua Jin’s concern and forced a smile.
When he sat up, other than intense pain, there were no unusual sensations in his body, so he assumed there were no fractures.
"Also, to ice you down, we had to tear your inner clothes." Hua Jin pointed to the cloth on Luo Song’s forehead.
"It’s alright, it was to save me."
No wonder the cloth looked familiar earlier.
"Young Master Luo Song, would you like some hot water?" Seeing Luo Song’s chapped lips, Hua Jin lifted a kettle from the charcoal basin.
"Thank you," Luo Song nodded slightly, truly feeling parched as if his throat were on fire.
Hua Jin poured a large bowl of water and handed it over.
In the countryside, people drank from bowls; it quenched thirst.
"Thank you," Luo Song drank it all in a few gulps, feeling significantly more comfortable, and the fire in his throat subsided.
"Young Master Luo Song, you’re still weak. Why not rest for a while? My father is driving; it shouldn’t take long to reach Shanggu Town. We can take you directly to the medical clinic afterward."
"No need. If it’s not too much trouble, could Uncle Hua take me home instead? We have a doctor there."
"No trouble at all," Hua Jin shook her head.
Truly didn’t see an issue; they had to pass through Shanggu Town anyway. There wasn’t much difference between taking him to a clinic or home.
Besides, helping others thoroughly never hurt anyone.
"Thank you, my home is the largest mansion at the very end of Yushu Lane. It will be a big help."
"No need for formalities; even if it weren’t for your relationship with my older brother, helping a stranger in need is always the right thing to do if circumstances allow. Young Master Luo Song, rest up and conserve your energy."
The phrase "if circumstances allow" prompted Luo Song to glance at Hua Jin again.
Hua Yunao’s sister might be young, but she spoke quite maturely.
With a slight smile, Luo Song accepted Hua Jin’s words, his fatigue overwhelming him, and he closed his eyes.
Seeing this, Hua Jin also shut her eyes to take a brief nap.
The two spoke softly, and Hua Chengtian, who was fast-driving the ox cart, was enveloped by the sound of wind, unaware that Luo Song had already awakened.
Time swiftly passed, and soon it was midnight. Hua Jin, who had been resting in the cart, was already awake. Wrapped tightly, she sat at the front beside her father, holding an emergency lamp to illuminate the road for him.
"Not long before we reach Shanggu Town."
Upon saying this, Hua Jin could clearly sense her father’s relieved tone.
