Diary of a Dead Wizard-Chapter 413 : Concealment
Gorsa only gave a simple smile when he heard Saul's words of loyalty.
He had long made it clear to Saul that if Saul's research didn’t contribute to the resurrection experiment, Saul would become the subject of study.
With such a threat, he wasn’t worried about Saul not putting in enough effort.
Of course, Saul was only saying that.
If Gorsa could keep his promise, Saul would certainly take his work seriously.
"Master, I would like to temporarily conceal the fact that I’ve been promoted, if that’s alright?"
The promotion couldn’t be hidden for long. However, for the time being, being an apprentice was less suspicious than being a true wizard.
Moreover, a true wizard in the Wizard Tower had teaching duties, but with the resurrection experiment approaching in six months, Saul didn't have time to guide other apprentices daily.
"Alright." Gorsa agreed without even asking why.
Saul then added, "Is Lady Yura around you?"
Gorsa stood up and casually said, "Our conversation won’t reach her ears."
With that, Gorsa walked to Saul’s side and suddenly placed his hand on his left shoulder.
Saul stiffened but didn’t resist.
Then he felt as though a cold chain had pierced his left shoulder.
It didn’t hurt, but it felt as though there were thorns growing inside his bones.
"You’ve just been promoted, and your magic and mental strength are like newlyweds entangled together, making it obvious to anyone looking. I’ve planted a thorn inside you. If you focus more, you can prevent it from being noticed."
After saying this, Gorsa stepped back two paces, allowing Saul to check his body.
Saul raised his hand to touch his left shoulder. When his mental power probed it, he realized that the presence of this "thorn" indeed caused the originally well-coordinated magic and mental power to seem like they were quarreling.
But if Saul exerted a little force, he could break through the disguise.
Gorsa had helped him create this illusion based on the principle of a true wizard’s promotion, which was far more reliable than simply restraining his power.
With this disguise, Saul could keep his promotion hidden for a while longer, maybe even until the last possible moment.
And why did Gorsa help him so willingly without asking anything in return? Was it because he noticed something?
Although Gorsa appeared indifferent, as the master of the tower, it was impossible for him to be unaware.
Given the approaching resurrection experiment, even if Gorsa was arrogant, surely he had made preparations?
Seeing that Saul almost immediately understood the principle of hiding his power, Gorsa smiled faintly. "Alright, do you have any other questions regarding the experiment?"
"Thank you, I have no more questions." Saul suddenly remembered something, hesitated for a second, and asked, "By the way, Master. If the Haywood you sealed away was only a temporary version, then why did he know what happened a few hours before I entered the layer?"
Gorsa crossed his arms, leaned back slightly, and looked down at Saul. "Did you communicate with him that much? Seems like you’ve truly made the layer your little garden."
His tone subtly changed, though it was hard to tell whether he was angry.
However, shortly after, his voice took another turn.
"Because there are many people's thoughts hidden in the layer."
He winked at Saul with his right eye.
"That includes mine."
Gorsa disappeared from in front of Saul, and the shadow that had faded from the room returned and began to dance.
Saul stood in place, thinking about Gorsa's words, not snapping out of it for a long time.
The next day, Mentor Rum’s Dormitory.
After a round of adaptation experiments, Yura emerged from a puppet doll with no eyes, her silhouette dark as she sat down and crossed her legs.
On the other side, the agile Kaz immediately stepped forward to record the puppet’s changes.
Rum sat quietly in the corner, his gaze fixed on Yura’s condition.
"Have you had any abnormal reactions recently?"
Rum was referring to the incident a few days ago when Yura lost control and had to use Blue Water Soul to stabilize her emotions.
Kaz had heard about it but hadn’t been present at the time, only knowing that Yura had regained stability with Rum’s help.
"I’m fine. I asked Gorsa about it. He told me it was because the mark I left by Saul was destroyed, which affected my condition." Yura tugged at her hair, pulled some out, and stuck it back on.
"You left a mark on Saul?" Kaz realized how little he knew.
"Heh, I was just taking care of Gorsa’s little apprentice." Yura laughed lightly and changed the subject. "But the experiment is approaching, and Gorsa has already forbidden me from splitting the soul mark."
Kaz quickly nodded. "Right, you can't meddle anymore. You need to maintain your condition. Otherwise, when the experiment begins…"
He paused for a moment before adding, "By the way, I reviewed Byron's gray matter potion. The formula is somewhat similar to Blue Water Soul, but since his potion is for the living, it’s less toxic."
He suggested to Yura, "If Blue Water Soul is too painful, we could try Byron’s formula instead."
"No need!" Yura firmly rejected Kaz’s suggestion. "I don’t need reduced toxicity. The pain helps me stay awake. Otherwise, if I’m placed in the vessel, I won’t even know if Gorsa has done something to me."
Rum raised an eyebrow, and a faint smirk appeared on his face, though it was quickly hidden by his fat.
Kaz helplessly said, "The Tower Master can be, well, a bit overbearing, but he’s doing this for your resurrection."
Yura remained seated and switched legs, waiting for a few seconds before speaking slowly. "I know. I’ve been cooperating with your experiments, haven’t I? Anyway, on this matter, I have the least to say."
Rum, now with a relaxed smile, said, "The experiment is in its final confirmation phase. If everything goes as planned, we should be able to conduct the official resurrection experiment within six months. No matter what, once the experiment succeeds, we’ll be free."
Kaz immediately agreed, "Yes, once the experiment succeeds, we’ll have fulfilled the Tower Master’s request, and then we can do whatever we want."
Kaz, the oldest among the three, had the most ideas when it came to life after the resurrection experiment.
"I don’t plan to leave the Wizard Tower. I’ve gotten used to living here. But maybe I’ll take an extended vacation and travel around. I’ve heard that Caugust City near Bluewater Bay has been developed by Bayton Academy in a truly amazing way. Even ordinary people can use wizarding tools in their daily lives. I’d like to see it for myself."
Yura scoffed. "Using magical tools? Aren’t those ordinary people afraid of being contaminated? Or maybe the wizards at Bayton Academy just don’t care how long ordinary people live?"
Rum clearly found this topic interesting too.
"It’s impossible for ordinary people to really use magical tools. If it exists, it must be heavily restricted to specific groups. After all, if Bayton Academy wants to recruit new apprentices, they have to consider the population. They only have one city to manage."
"That’s why I want to see it for myself." Kaz rubbed his beard, still very curious.
Yura poured cold water on him again, "Forget it. Even if the resurrection experiment is completed, Gorsa might have a new plan. That guy… loves making decisions for you without asking."
