Devilish secretary-Chapter 413 I want to see you marry the man you love
Chapter 413: Chapter 413 I want to see you marry the man you love
Lilith finally managed to control her breathing. She pulled back a little from Lennox’s arms, her eyes still glassy but her expression calm again. She glanced at her father’s face, trying to read him. But Lennox’s cold blue eyes had softened, only for her.
Yet when his eyes slid past her shoulder to look at Gray, that warmth cooled at once replaced by a flicker of pure displeasure. He didn’t say anything, but the meaning was clear enough: I just got my daughter back, and you’re already about to marry her?The thought stung him. He was a man used to controlling what was his and Lilith was blood, his own flesh that he’d failed to protect once. Seeing her already tied to someone, it made something sharp twist in his chest.
Gray caught the look but only lowered his head politely.
The silence in the private room felt thick. Lilith turned her eyes to Daisy. She studied the woman in front of her carefully.
Daisy looked a little bit like her, those large dark green eyes, soft and warm, glistened with tears that wouldn’t stop falling. Her long black hair fell over her shoulders, framing a face that still carried beauty despite all the years spent grieving.
When their eyes met, Daisy’s breath caught in her throat. "Lee Lee..." she whispered, as if saying it too loudly would make this a dream that could break apart.
Lilith didn’t move closer. She only kept looking at her mother, a thousand thoughts hidden behind her piercing gaze.
Daisy’s mind replayed everything that had led them here. She remembered the fear that had gripped her when Liliah — her twin sister, who’d always been unstable in the head began slipping further into her own made-up worlds. Daisy remembered how Liliah’s mind would spin lies that felt so real she believed them herself.
Her heart twisted painfully when she remembered how she had hidden like prey, running from her husband’s uncle who’d wanted her dead because she was from a low status. How Liliah had offered to help, pretending to be her, stepping into her life for just a moment — only for it to end in blood and confusion. To the world, Daisy had died that night. And with that lie, Lilith had vanished too...
Liliah had stolen her baby, thinking she was Daisy...
Daisy’s tears fell faster. She reached out a trembling hand but stopped halfway, afraid. Lilith just looked at her.
Lilith’s lips parted, her throat tight. The word came out softer than she expected but strong enough to crack the dam in Daisy’s chest.
"...Mom," Lilith whispered.
Daisy let out a broken sob, her hands flying to cover her mouth for half a second before she stepped forward, then she couldn’t hold back. She threw her arms around Lilith, hugging her tightly, crying like she was trying to empty out years of loss and guilt in one embrace.
Lilith stood stiff for a moment, taking in the unfamiliar warmth, the softness she hadn’t felt since she’d lost her father from hell in her other life. Slowly, her arms rose and wrapped around Daisy’s back, her chin resting on her mother’s shoulder. The smell, the trembling shoulders... it felt real.
Lennox’s jaw tightened as he watched his wife and daughter, his eyes misting for just a second before he forced them dry. He cleared his throat gruffly and looked at Gray again, still not quite approving, but less icy than before.
After a long while, Daisy finally pulled back, wiping her eyes quickly, her fingers brushing Lilith’s cheek as if she couldn’t believe she was really there. "You’re so beautiful..." she whispered hoarsely. "You’ve grown up so well. I’m sorry, baby. I’m so sorry..."
Lilith only nodded slightly, her eyes flicking to Lennox, then Gray. "Let’s sit," she said softly, feeling the heaviness in her chest ease a fraction.
They moved to the dining table set in the elegant private room. The space was so luxurious– polished wood, crystal glasses, expensive paintings but the atmosphere felt awkward now, almost fragile.
Gray held Lilith’s chair out for her before taking the seat next to her, his hand brushing her knee under the table. Lennox sat across from him, his eyes a constant storm of possessive protectiveness, flicking between Lilith and Gray as if to remind him she’s my daughter first.
Daisy dabbed her eyes with a tissue, clearing her throat. She kept stealing glances at Lilith, her mouth trembling like she wanted to say a hundred things but didn’t know where to begin.
Small talk started, halting and awkward. The waiter came in with warm soup and delicate plates of food, and everyone murmured polite thanks. Cutlery clinked against porcelain, the sound filling the silence between short, careful questions.
"So... how is the ESE project doing?" Lennox asked, his tone stiff but trying. freewēbnoveℓ.com
Lilith told him simply, "Better than I thought."
Gray added a few calm details, explaining numbers, giving respect to Lennox by letting him know how successful Lilith’s work was.
Daisy, meanwhile, kept reaching across to refilled Lilith’s glass, her hands always wanting to touch her daughter’s sleeve, her hair like she needed to confirm again and again that Lilith was really there.
The tension eased, just a bit, when Daisy laughed softly at something Gray said seriously. Lennox only stared at him, unimpressed. But when Lilith looked at Gray and squeezed his hand under the table, a small smile flickered on Lennox’s lips, gone as quickly as it came.
At the end of dinner, Lennox’s deep voice cut through the soft chatter. He cleared his throat, his eyes fixed on Lilith, then on Gray, then back to his daughter, his expression gentler than it had been all evening.
"Lilith..." he said, his tone a little rough around the edges, like he was trying to hold back the storm of feelings inside him. "Although I never had the chance to raise you... to watch you grow up, to stand beside you when you took your first steps or went to school..."
He paused, his jaw tightening for a second before his eyes softened again. "I know I can’t change the past. But I’m your father — I want to stand by you now, in every way I can. I want to see you marry the man you love... as your father, I want to be the one to give you away."
His voice dropped, thick with emotion as he looked at her, a question trembling at the end of his words.
"Will you let me do that for you, Lilith? Will you give me that chance?"
