Demon Hunter and His Cabin-Chapter 998 - 726 Three’s Company_2
Chapter 998: Chapter 726 Three’s Company_2
"Ah... you beasts, I’ll kill you!"
Vera jumped up from the bed, but immediately after, like Joseph, her legs gave out and she collapsed to the ground.
"This is slander," Joseph shouted loudly, "You started it!"
With a blank mind, Vera seemed to piece together the causes and effects, and glanced at Roger standing beside her, defending herself with reason.
"But you shouldn’t have called another person in..."
Before Joseph could explain, several rough figures burst in, Joseph stopped what he was doing and hurried towards the door.
Vera also realized something was wrong and tried to cover her exposed skin, shouting and cursing, and soon the three of them were taken out of the room.
Seeing Vera’s dirty and messy image, even during these special times, it aroused much discussion among the people.
"Three people together?"
"They must have a death wish," someone said, shivering.
"What’s that sticky stuff on her face?"
"Could it be..."
Several gentlemen exchanged glances, full of confusion.
In fact, Roger originally planned to leave without a trace.
But something like this happened in the manor, and the kingdom’s subsequent investigation would certainly be meticulous. If someone disappeared into thin air, the most reasonable guess would be that they were Ox’s accomplice.
Consequently, Joseph, who came with him, and his half-sister Chloe would be implicated.
Though the time spent together was short, both left a good impression on Roger, especially Chloe. She was a bit strong-tempered, but it’s clear she cared deeply for the original owner of this body.
So, after much consideration, Roger chose to return to the manor. He was just an insignificant figure among the many nobles.
Being careful to avoid scrutiny shouldn’t be a problem.
But afterward, he should find a reasonable excuse to leave, as he didn’t want his disappearance to cause trouble for Chloe.
If because of him a sister who cared for her brother died on the road searching for him, that would not be a pleasant outcome.
"You have no right to do this!"
"Let us go, I am a noble of the kingdom!"
Though the surroundings were bloody, they seemed safe now. As feelings calmed, the once-panicked nobles sorted out their thoughts, and someone shouted loudly, causing much resonance among the crowd.
"Shut up!"
"The matter hasn’t been clarified yet, no one can leave this manor!"
"Among you there must still be accomplices of the Federation’s spies; are you shouting so loudly because you’re guilty?"
Havier snorted coldly, his sharp gaze fixed on the man shouting.
"Let us go back, I demand to exercise noble immunity..."
"Bang!"
Before he finished speaking, Havier suddenly moved and sent the speaking man flying with a wave of his hand.
"Arrest him and interrogate thoroughly!"
Just then, a commotion came from outside the door, and a towering man with a rough face burst in, flanked by rows of soldiers.
The man appeared to be in his fifties, with graying temples, broad shoulders, and strong hands, indicating he had seriously honed his physical strength when young.
It was only through the passage of time and a life of long-standing luxury that his body had grown plump.
"What happened?"
The man roared.
"Deross! Biska!"
"Father, Father, I’m here!"
A cry of alarm came from the second-floor railing, and Biska stumbled down from above. She seemed to have already learned the truth and, disregarding the blood on the floor, knelt with a thud at the baron’s feet.
"Brother is dead, killed!" Biska sobbed uncontrollably.
"What?!" The baron’s body shook slightly. Not long ago, he had been immersed in hopes of the family’s rise.
The grieving baron looked up at Havier.
Havier took a deep breath, "Deross was framed; he is a spy of the Federation."
"How did you end up here?"
"The kingdom’s secret..."
The baron suddenly closed his mouth. Though his status wasn’t high, as an old noble, he could still hear some rumors.
He recognized Havier’s identity and saw the team member standing next to him. Relating it to everything happening here, he instantly figured out a lot.
"This is a plan, a trap!"
"Deross is a war hero, not a pawn of yours!"
"Insane, is this how you treat heroes? I will report to the Noble Council and request arbitration. Deross is a survivor of the border war, not a pawn of yours!"
"Madness, truly madness!"
"You bunch of unscrupulous hunters..."
Before he could finish, a suffocating pressure rushed towards him.
Havier’s face was gloomy, "Baron, I am very sorry for such a tragedy, but please don’t make rash judgments before the matter is fully investigated."
"An anomaly occurred with Deross, and it was him who killed all the people here. Even if there was a reason, you should still think carefully about how to face the nobles behind those deceased."
The baron’s body trembled slightly, his face turned ashen, and he seemed to age drastically in an instant.
Havier took the opportunity to step closer, quietly lowering his voice, "There is still a turnaround possible. The ones who erred are those mice of the Federation. Your family has suffered immense loss. If the title can continue, what difference does it make who inherits it?"
As if instantly drained of all his vital energy, the muscles on the baron’s face twitched, and he slowly closed his eyes. When he opened them again, he seemed to have made a decision in his heart.
Roger feigned a weak and panic-stricken look, shrinking in the corner, silently observing everything in the scene. Although the distance was far, he easily learned all of the conversations.
"This is going to be troublesome. Should I find an opportunity to directly control that Havier?"
"If I deal with him, I can easily escape."
Just as Roger hesitated and contemplated when to make his move, the urgent sound of horse hooves came from outside the manor again.
Not long after, an old man in a well-fitted black butler’s uniform, with a straight back despite his aged appearance, appeared at the door.
"Mr. Dolan?"
Havier was slightly surprised.
"I was sent by the earl."
Havier glanced around. The speed at which the earl received information even exceeded the kingdom’s secret agencies, which meant that beside him...
"This old man is a bit different."
Roger quietly withdrew his gaze.
"An Awakening Spirit? Third Tier."
He chuckled to himself cynically. Had he retained his previous body, he could have punched such an opponent to death easily.
Even now, if given a bit more time, he was confident he could easily kill the opponent.
"Forget it, let’s not make things more complicated."
Roger extinguished the idea of making a direct move.
He was just a minor character now, and after being checked, he should be able to withdraw calmly. Directly using force to intervene carried too many variables and might lead to a series of troubles.
He could escape at any time, but Joseph and Chloe would definitely be implicated.
Their figures disappeared into the first-floor hall.
All the nobles present were scrambled and detained in batches.
The manor was large, with many unoccupied rooms beside the main building. Thus, the so-called detention didn’t treat them like criminals.
They were merely restricted in freedom.
During this period, people continuously came to verify, but the questions asked were very limited.
Roger blended into the crowd so well that he was too ordinary, with neither the power nor status to develop as a spy. Furthermore, the rumors about him, Vera, and Joseph being in a trio spread like wildfire.
Someone leaked the miserable state of Vera, indirectly solidifying these rumors.
There were even whispers from Vera’s close female companions.
Considering Vera’s physical trauma, it could not have been caused by one person in a short period.
They even suspected Roger and Joseph of using some shameful tools.
"That’s abuse! We should unite all the women in the kingdom to resist them. They are disrespectful perverts!" fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
A female noblewoman accused.
In such a tense environment, explosive rumors could instead divert everyone’s attention, indirectly reducing the oppression from the surroundings.
However, Roger didn’t know that, in the room on the third floor, someone had already set their sights on him.
Or rather, on Chloe.
