Chapter 335: Leave It All To Me

They sat Brooke down, told her all about Axel’s sister, who used to work as a maid at their mansion, about Dylan’s sister, and even mentioned Jen, the secretary who had been a victim of Ethan’s abuse.

After carefully listening to them, Brooke braced herself for the round of questions they would have.

"Brooke," Dylan calmly started off, "If you don’t want to help, he can’t force you. But, if you know that there’s some evidence we can use, to finally punish that bastard, then please, help us." He begged her.

Brooke nodded, "Of course I’ll help." She turned to Axel, "And what about you guys? How’s the evidence collecting going on your end?"

Axel frowned, "The police station is still very tight, but there should be a chance for me to slip into the Captain’s office next week."

"Why? Is something happening?" Brooke questioned.

"Some very important guests are flying into the country, apparently, the captain and the higher ups are to go greet them." Axel informed them.

Important guests? Brooke wondered who might be important enough to have the police department personally go out to greet them.

"Brooke, if there’s anything you have that can help us, anything you recall that might be beneficial, you have to tell us. If we work hand in hand, we can get that man arrested and locked up for the rest of his miserable life." Axel said, earning a supportive nod from Dylan.

However, Brooke’s countenance fell greatly.

She scrunched her nose and knitted her brows, "Locked up?" She echoed, her tone laced in uncertainty.

"Of course. If we play our cards right, he’ll get a life sentencing." Axel assured her.

Brooke shook her head. "You saw that he had the captain of the police wrapped around his thumb! He’s killed people in the past, that’s not something that can go uncovered for long." She argued. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

"That’s why we need evidence-"

She interjected, "Evidence isn’t going to be enough for someone like Ethan. He’ll be in and out of prison in just a matter of days."

Dylan felt a strange feeling in his stomach, "Brooke, what do you suggest we do then?" He didn’t know why, but he didn’t like where her train of thought was headed.

She stood her ground, and in a low tone, she said, "We need a permanent solution."

The way she said permanent, it was clear as day what it was she meant to say.

Axel’s features dampened, "We’re arresting Ethan, Brooke, there’s no two ways about it."

Brooke got up, her eyes fiery, "Hasn’t he done enough bad deeds? Prison is too light a sentence! He’ll get out and just hurt more people we care about!"

Her shouting caused Dylan’s sister to stir in bed.

Dylan calmly tried to intervene, "Killing him isn’t the answer, you’d be no better than Ethan if you stopped to his level."

He turned to Axel for help.

The detective nodded, "You can’t save yourself with a crime."

Brooke rolled her eyes, "And you haven’t committed any crimes in pursuing this investigation? Is that what you want me to believe?" She couldn’t understand why they were so adamant on sparing Ethan’s life.

And she frankly did not want to see reason.

She left after a bit of more arguing, and went home, where she finally managed to catch her husband.

She told him about her meeting, and told him of Axel and Dylan’s plan to have Ethan imprisoned. After her retelling, she sat on the edge of the bed, frustrated.

"I don’t understand why they wouldn’t want to have that nightmare out of our lives forever! I can’t stand the thought of him coming out of all this unscathed." She voiced out.

Thane walked over to her, he knelt in front of her, and held her hand in his.

"Brooke, are you okay?" He asked, although he was the one pale with chapped lips.

She shook her head. "I just want him gone, for good."

"I know."

She sighed, "Why won’t they listen? Don’t they hate that bastard as much as I do? Or at least, half as much?" She clenched her jaw, "If it were up to me, I’d do it myself, and get it over with."

Hearing those words, Thane told her. "If that’s the case, then the detective and your co-star are right."

"What?" Brooke snapped.

Thane elaborated. "It would be a waste for you to dirty your hands for someone like Ethan."

She scoffed, "Not you too."

He kept his expression stoic, "I’m more than serious. You would gain nothing from doing that. The time you lost to his abuse, and the joy he stole from you can never come back."

"You don’t know that!" She argued.

"And neither do you." He argued back.

She frowned, "What about raising hell together? You promised me that! You said we’d get back at all of them! And now, you’re just going to say it’s all over?"

Thane traced his hand to her cheek and gave it a gentle rub, "I was wrong, Brooke. Your happiness is more important to me, and I’ll prioritize it before anything else." he smiled warmly at her.

She hissed, her features, paranoid, "And having him gone would make me the happiest woman in the world!"

Thane’s smile cracked for a split second. But he quickly recovered. "Having Ethan wiped out would make you truly happy?"

Brooke nodded. "Yes! I just want that, him dead, and Cassie next! That’s all I want!"

He could tell, she was scared. Something, or someone must’ve said something that got her shaken up to this point.

The woman in front of him was far from the one whom he rescued from Ethan. And he could blame only himself for getting mixed with her.

And yet, even now, he loved her just as much as he did then.

"Alright." He got up, keeping their gazes locked.

"I already promised you, that despite everything, I would make Ethan pay for all he did to you." He started off, his tone lighter.

His hand moved to her head and gave it a little pat, "Leave it all to me. Focus on your work, and I’ll handle everything." He promised her, his eyes as sharp as knives...
