Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 333: Leaving Her To Her Devices
Lucas took off his suit, and hung it on the rack behind the front door, he kicked his shoes off and marched into Sadie’s living room, his footsteps gradually swallowed by the news on television.
"What are you watching?" He asked, shifting his attention from Sadie, to the reporters on screen.
On hearing his voice, she tried to get up. Lucas rushed over and helped her off her feet. "Be careful when you stand up, you could hurt yourself." He gently cautioned her.
Sadie shook her head. "Forget about that for a moment, look! Brooke just admitted to being married to Mr Halton!" She pointed at the television.
Lucas nodded, "Yeah, I saw it. I’ve been getting calls from some endorsers, and other producers, looking for an exclusive scoop. Everyone’s curious about it." he said, walking over to the fridge.
He reached in and took out a can of beer, "It’s no wonder he came on set during filming and insisted on seeing her."
Sadie followed, "We have to do something! Some people online are saying horrible things about her."
Lucas corked open the can, and took a long hard gulp.
"Someone must’ve put that reporter up for that question! They’re trying to tank her career."
Lucas sighed, "Babe, that’s not important right now. I get it, she helped you get out of Luther’s company, but sometimes, you have to just...learn how to step away from conflict."
Sadie frowned, "I know, but just like you said, she’s the one who got me away from Luther, and Cassie. She landed me a leading role in a movie-"
He cut her off, "You got that role because you’re talented. Everyone watching the movie seems to think the same."
She rested her hands on the counter, "But, that’s also because of Brooke. It’s her scandal with Cassie that garnered attention, and it’s her scandal with Ethan that’s causing more recognition." She tried reasoning with him.
"And like I said, this and that are two different things. She only did all that because she needed you, she used you as a stepping stone to land a role. And now, she’s using Ethan’s popularity to spike up her career." He scoffed, "I wouldn’t be surprised if she hired that reporter to bring it up. I mean, how else would anyone even know about her relationship with Ethan?"
Her pitch went high, "Do you really think she’s that kind of person? Lucas, do you honestly think that way?"
He pinched his forehead, "What I think doesn’t matter. What matters is you, us, and our child on the way." He walked over to her, and held her hand in his.
"Today at work, I got a call from a maternity brand that I had pitched to. They dropped Cassie and said they’re willing to make you the face of their brand." He excitedly told her.
"It’s perfect. You can take the deal and use it as a medium to announce your pregnancy." Lucas informed her.
Sadie’s features flattened, "I don’t understand, when did we have this conversation?"
It was the first time she heard about him reaching out to maternity brands. And what was this about her announcing her pregnancy?
"What? Aren’t you happy to hear this? It’s good publicity, babe. This way, we can keep you in the public eye, you’ll have some more relevance. And so will our production company." He stated, bringing a factual aspect to the discussion.
She softened her tone, "It’s not like that, of course I would. But, I just wanted to have the baby quietly. That’s what we agreed, after the movie, I’d take a little break, for maybe a year or two, and focus on raising our kid."
Lucas chuckled, "We can hire a maid to do all that, it isn’t necessary."
Her heart skipped a beat, "A maid?" She echoed, nervously.
"Sorry, a nanny." He corrected himself.
Sadie retracted her hand and placed it on her stomach. "We never discussed that before. And, you know how I feel about family, especially with my brother and how things ended up. I want our kid to have both our attention-"
"And of course they will. No one says you can’t do both. And waiting a year or two will do damage to your career. If we leave Brooke to her devices, she’ll sweep all the attention for herself. Cassie’s not going to back down either, by the time you’re break, it’ll be harder to promote you."
He reached for her stomach and gave it a gentle rub, "Your brother turning out the way he did isn’t your fault."
She nodded, "I know. But, I still don’t think I want to work while I’m pregnant, the stress might not be good-"
"Don’t worry, I’ll speak with the company, your schedule won’t be a bother..." he was saying, only for Sadie to cut him off with a slight tonal raise.
"No, Lucas!" Realizing she had raised her voice, she immediately calmed down. "I mean, please, just give me some time to gloss over it. I get you’re trying to build the production house’s reputation-"
He chimed, "You’re ready to help Brooke at the drop of a hat, but you won’t commit to helping our future? Help me understand just what is the actual problem here."
"There is no problem-"
He rolled his eyes, "There clearly is. If you have something to say, then out with it. Whatever is on your mind, don’t sugarcoat it. Tell me!"
He knew trying to guilt her was wrong, but the production house was in dire need of recognition. Dylan had rejected his offer and became a freelance actor, Brooke joined Prime star, and Damien was too big a talent to rope in.
Whereas the extras and side characters were too insignificant to capitalize on.
The only person he had left was Sadie, and now, she was knocked up and couldn’t take any acting offers.
They needed this job, even if it was a risk-
His thoughts were penetrated by Sadie’s sudden confession. "It’s always been about promoting with you." She muttered under her breath.
"Sorry for being a good business man-" once again she interjected.
"Would a good businessman sell out one of his talent for the sake of the other?" Sadie snapped at him.
He blinked twice, "W-What are you talking about?"
Her eyes glistened with tears, "I know, you sold Brooke out while we were filming, to cover up my pregnancy scandal!"
