Chapter 332: His Daughter’s Identity

Dylan held a bag of newly purchased medicines in one hand, and his phone in the other, watching the interview Brooke had, regarding Aaron’s assault. He had seen it earlier, but just in fragments online, and him, just like anyone else was stunned to find out the connection between Brooke and Ethan.

Had she known about his sister?

Could she be trusted?

His heart sunk at the thought.

"But then, who was that man she was with-"

"I’m glad I caught you!"

Dylan raised his head, only to see Axel standing at the apex of the stairs, his hands rested on his hips.

A frown painted his face. "You don’t know when to give up, do you?" he stopped, "I’m not going to work with you, and I hope this will be the last time you come in contact with me."

Axel descended the steps, and reached for his bags of medicine. Taking both off his hands, he gestured him to walk with him.

Dylan sighed, giving in.

After they walked a bit further, he broke the ice, "Look, it’s not like I don’t want to help you, it’s just, I can’t risk it."

Axel kept quiet.

He went on, "I’m her only family, me helping you might place me in danger. Please understand, and don’t come see me anymore." he pleaded.

The detective nodded, then pushed open the hospital ward door. He set the medicine by the bedside table, he glanced at the unconscious lady, a pained look in his eye.

"I understand, seeing your loved one hurt and not being able to do anything." He started off, his fingers tapping the surface of the table. "That’s why, I’ve decided not to pester you or your sister anymore."

"Thank you-" before he could finish speaking, Axel cut him off.

"But, if I could ask for just one last thing from you, one last thing and I won’t bother you two any longer." He pleaded.

Dylan crinkled his brows, "Depending on what you ask, I might have to file for a restraining order."

He walked over to him, "Brooke’s contact info." he told him flatly. "Can I get it?"

A humorless laugh escaped Dylan’s lips, "I never pegged you a fan."

Axel’s expression remained stoic, "You know why I’m asking for it, you saw the news. She’s involved with him, and in the closest way possible. If there’s anybody that can help us put a stop to Ethan, it’s Brooke."

Dylan frowned, "That’s not something for you to decide."

"Do you think she doesn’t want to get back at him?" He retorted sharply.

"She would’ve all this time, if she wanted to." Dylan argued.

"That’s not what I felt back at the station. She was scared of the man, but I could also see anger, and hate." He gazed into Dylan’s eyes, and hardened his tone, "She might just be the key we need to piece together this shit show of a case. Once and for all."

Serena approached the stairs, her mind set on exposing her brother for his lie.

Cassie and Scott exchanged quick glances with each other, all knowing looks plastered on their faces. Hannah looked to Cassie, then at Serena, her eyes narrowed at her position.

Cassie and Scott knew what she was planning to do, rather planning to say. And they also knew just what had to be done to stop that from happening.

"Serena come back here!" Scott charged at his sister. He reached for her wrist, "Cassie doesn’t want you here!"

"You psycho, let me go!" she struggled against his grip, pulling away, expecting him to tug back.

Unfortunately, Scott released her wrist, messing with her balance. Serena’s eyes went wide, as she tumbled backwards, the consciousness gripping her that she was about to fall down the stairs!

Cassie closed her eyes and smiled inwardly, expecting to hear a loud thud as her mother dropped to her demise.

Little did she expect to hear her assistant say, "It’s okay, I’ve got you."

Cassie opened her eyes, only to see her mother’s fall had been broken by her assistant. She watched helplessly as she helped her down the stairs, hand in hand.

She looked at Scott, her eyes panicked! Trying to get her uncle to do something!

He quickly descended the stairs. "Serena, let’s talk outside-" he reached for her shoulder, but Hannah swatted his hand away.

"You fucking brat!" He gritted his teeth, wondering what she was doing.

’This was all her plan, wasn’t it?!’ he recalled in his head, as he watched her lead Serena over to Julian. ’What in the hell is she doing now?!’

Cassie shook her head, and tried to stop her mother from revealing the truth to Julian. "Father! Don’t listen to this woman. I already told you, how she landed me in the hospital. Send her away, I can’t bear to look at her!" Cassie pleaded, turning to tears.

Julian listened to her, then turned to Serena, "You said you had something to tell me?" He asked.

Cassie’s jaw dropped.

Did he just ignore her?

She looked to her uncle, who was just as panicked as she was. The man was sweating buckets, waiting to hear what his sister would say.

Serena, who was still reeling in the shock of having her brother try to harm her, could barely catch a word of what they were saying.

"Ahem." Hannah fake coughed, stealing her attention. "Mr Reginald just asked you if there was anything you wanted to say to him."

Serena nodded forcefully, pulling herself back to her senses. She turned to Julian, "Julian, there’s something I have to tell you. I’ve been lying to you, about something I should’ve never kept a secret."

Hannah’s ears stood up, ’What could this woman be talking about?’ she wondered.

Her curiosity wasn’t held for a second longer, as Serena parted her lips and let the cat out of the bag.

"Cassie isn’t your real daughter," she inhaled, and then, in a deep exhale she announced, "It’s Brooke."
