Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 325: A Sketchy Transaction
Brooke arrived home and asked for Thane, but was told he was out and would not be back until the next day. She called for Hannah, but she was still at work with Cassie, and couldn’t spare time to answer her phone.
To this advent, she called Kayden, half expecting him to answer, little did she expect him to accept on the first ring. Judging by his reaction time, she guessed he had something to consult with her.
"Hey," she greeted, strapping off her prosthetic, "It’s been a while. How is the business?"
They exchanged pleasantries and had a brief chat before Kayden revealed what was bothering him. "Brooke, do you know anything about Anna Grayson?" he asked.
Brooke was taken aback, "What does she have to do with anything?"
Kayden cleared his throat, "I’m trying to pursue her, but she doesn’t seem quite interested in me." he shamelessly admitted.
Brooke’s chest tightened, "Anna?"
"Why does your tone sound that way? Should I be worried?" he asked, over the sound of liquid being poured into a glass.
She shook her head, "No, she’s fine, it’s just, I’m shocked you two met. The Graysons are very..."she took a pause before saying, "Conservative."
In all honesty, she did not want Kayden to become tied to such a dysfunctional family, it would’ve been better if he could find a nice girl and settle down with a loving family.
"I don’t mind it, but like I said earlier, she doesn’t seem interested in me. And well, considering you’re her sister in law, I figured you could point me in the right direction." he said, laying his cards out.
Brooke rolled her tongue around her mouth. She wanted to discourage him, but Kayden had helped her with her debut movie, and she did not want to seem ungrateful.
"I’ll ask my husband when he gets home, but I can’t make any promises." a message popped up on her screen, from an unsaved sender. "Also, if she says no, don’t push it any further, she’s still young and figuring things out." she tried to let him down slowly, but Kayden was not backing down.
"I know when not to overstep my boundaries, and besides, I feel she may be interested, or at the very least, not everything is looking bleak right now-" he was saying, then suddenly stopped himself, "There was something else I wanted to ask you."
Brooke swiped the message away, ’I’ll go through that later.’ she told herself.
"What is it?" she had hopes it was about his father, and that he was finally willing to have a conversation with him.
But he asked, "I hear that your husband’s grandfather is announcing his heir during their end of year business party. I got the invite last night. Will you be coming?"
His heir? Was the old man dying?
She traced her fingers across her face, where he had slapped her. The slap that caused Thane to disown his grandfather and lose his position as heir.
Guilt pricked her heart.
"I don’t think I’ll be able to make it, not with filming and everything. But I’ll send a gift." she forced a cheerful tone out of her mouth.
She heard him drop glass on the counter and walk away from what she guessed was his indoor bar. "How is filming? I’m sorry I couldn’t attend the premier."
"It’s fine." she sunk her head into her pillow, her eyes pointed at the door. When would Thane be back? It was already so late.
"And that brat Cassie?" Kayden asked.
"You mean your sister?" She corrected.
"That bitch is no sister of mine." he hissed, earning a chuckle out of Brooke, his tone serious, he said, "I’d much rather have you as my sister. But Julian couldn’t keep it in his pants long enough."
She parted her lips to say something, but the door to his bedroom sounded open, and in flooded calculated steps, "Sir, the transaction reports are here." His assistant said.
Into the phone, he told her, "I have to go, but I’ll call you soon. We still have one more thing to discuss."
She nodded, "Take care." then ended the call.
On the other end, Kayden tossed his phone on the bed and sat with his leg flung over the other. "I thought I told you there was no need to keep tabs on her spending anymore." he hardened his tone.
His assistant apologized, "Sir, I am sorry, but I find it alarming. Just this past week, she’s taken out over four hundred thousand."
"Let her be, I was the one who authorized it. She can buy as much as she wants."
"But sir that’s the issue." He walked over and showed Kayden the records, "She hasn’t made any transfers, she’s just withdrawing the money. And at this rate, she’ll cross a million by the end of the month."
Kayden took the transaction records and glanced through them whilst his assistant lectured him, "I had our people tail her, and it seems she has someone she drops the money with, we suspect its either blackmail or a broker."
Kayden flipped to the next page, at the attached pictures of Anna handing over a bag of cash to a man, whose face was half exposed.
"I did not give you orders to stalk her!" he tossed the documents to the table, "That is a crime."
His assistant retorted sharply, "And so might what Miss Anna Grayson is doing!" He realized he had raised his voice and immediately cooled down. In a calmer tone, he said, "The money she’s giving him is from your account, the last thing we’d want is to get dragged into something shady."
The older man exhaled sharply, "Your father would never forgive himself if anything bad happened to you. Nor would we be able to face him."
Kayden tried to argue but reconsidered, he picked up the documents, this time his gaze laced with slight curiosity, "This drop-off, just how frequently do they happen..."
