Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 209: The Engagement Status
Chapter 209: The Engagement Status
Brooke frowned at him looking away, she tried to say something else, but her phone rang, she reached into her bag and pulled out the food she bought on her way over.
"Here," she said setting it on the table. "You’ve been here all night, you have to eat something and get your strength back up."
His tone snappy he retorted, "I didn’t ask you to bring me anything! Take it with you! And don’t come back!"
But Brooke just playfully shook her head and stepped outside to answer the phone call.
The call was from a restaurant, checking in on her reservation for tonight’s dinner. Brooke blinked twice, Thane hadn’t mentioned going out tonight, she had barely even seen him today.
She immediately called his phone, he answered almost immediately, as though he was expecting her to call.
Walking away from the door she asked, "I just got off the phone with a restaurant, did you plan an outing tonight?"
She heard the sound of an elevator ding over the call, she checked the time, and it was just barely past two o’clock. Was he already leaving to get ready?
He answered, "I know it’s sudden, but there’s something we need to celebrate."
"Something to celebrate? Is it about your business?" She knew he was starting over now that he had disowned his grandfather. That was one of the reasons they weren’t seeing each other as much as they’d like to.
"It’s a surprise for you." Was all he told her on the matter, before he disconnected the call he asked her where she’d like to be picked up from. But Dylan’s words resounded in her head, perhaps they weren’t being cautious enough.
"Let’s just meet up, I have some stuff to take care of, it might last a while before I’m able to resolve it." She said.
Although Thane tried convincing her otherwise he ultimately ended up letting her have her way. But only if she used a driver and kept him updated on her location at all times.
Disconnecting the call, Brooke turned around to go see Dylan for a while, however she was intercepted by Sarah, who was waiting for her by the hallway, a worrisome look on her face.
"Brooke," she said advancing towards her, "Come with me," she reached for her wrist and gave it a firm tug. "There’s something we need to discuss." The urgency in her tone suggested that she had something important to say, something no one else was meant to know about.
Meanwhile, Serena kept stealing glances at the door of the private room she had rented, waiting for her guest to arrive. At first, she doubted he would come, with the pregnancy scandal going on he had no reason to.
But the moment she saw him walk in, she heaved a sigh of relief.
"Thank you for coming-" she was saying, but Ethan cut her off with a hiss.
"I came to sound a final warning to you, after that stunt you pulled at my office, I thought I made it clear you and your bitch daughter are nothing to me. The next time you call me over...." He balled his fists over the table, in a bid to into intimidate Serena.
However, the woman for the first time did not cower or grovel for his mercy. Keeping her head high she asked, "Do you still want Brooke?"
The question took him by surprise, but naturally he answered, "Have you found her?"
Serena shook her head, "But you’re about to lose her forever, unless you do exactly as I’m about to tell you."
Ethan raised a brow, "Just what the hell are you on about?"
A smile danced at the corners of her lips, "This is your final chance to get my daughter back in your life once and for all." She told him, right before she disclosed her intentions to him....
Matthew woke up to a splitting headache and warmth spreading from his head to his sides. He groaned when drops of liquids tickled the corners of his mouth, and slipped between his slightly parted lips.
"Ngh!" He sat up, slowly opening his eyes, sobered up completely. He tried to remember what had happened, but his memory was a blur.
"What the..." he looked down at his shirtless body, a frown painted his lips. He shifted his gaze around his surroundings, trying to make out where he was.
He got his answer when the bathroom door was opened and out came Mallory with a rag on her shoulder and a bowl of steaming water in her hands.
"You’re finally up, thank goodness." She said, setting the bowl by her bedside. "I was starting to think you’d sleep the whole day in." She waltzed over to the curtains and nudged it to the side, showing him the dawn of day.
She reached for his head and picked up the damp rag, she took a feel of his forehead, and then took one of hers.
"It seems like your fever has gone down as well, I was worried when your temperature suddenly went up last night. It’s good it wasn’t anything serious." She explained all while taking out his clothes and setting them in front of him.
Matthew eyed the freshly ironed clothes, impressed at how surprisingly efficient the Rosamund heir was. How did someone with so many servants learn to handle herself so well?
But more importantly, how did he get in her bedroom? He couldn’t even remember driving himself home.
"Look, about last night-"
Mallory cut him off. "Last night, you were drunk, it’s a good thing you came here without getting caught. Your grandmother would’ve not let us hear the end of it at breakfast later."
Matthew could do nothing but nod, "I suppose," he got up and began to put his clothes on, stealing glances at Mallory while she tidied up the place.
Was this how Thane felt when he was with Brooke? Having someone so convenient who’d clean up after your mess no questions asked.
Was this why he loved her so much?
After he finished dressing up he said to her on his way out, "I’ll make sure last night doesn’t happen again."
But Mallory response caught him off guard. "No, I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again because after some thinking last night, I’ve decided that I can’t go through with this engagement after all!"
