Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 175: Unexpected Alliances And Hidden Leverage
Chapter 175: Unexpected Alliances And Hidden Leverage
*Some hours earlier*
To further wedge their point in, Amanda had called for another elderly man to come over and have a date with her daughter. And this time, with her standing by to oversee the date went smoothly.
And when Mallory refused to get dressed or come downstairs, Vance came to her room to threaten her.
Grabbing her by the wrist he said, "If you don’t come down and see your future husband, aunt and uncle have decided that you’ll get cut off from the family for good." He informed her.
Mallory widened her eyes, "Cut off?"
Vance explained, "You’ll no longer have our last name and not a single dime will be spent on you. And that aunt of yours, she’ll have to pay back the money uncle gave her for her surgery. All because you played the fool in the situation."
"The fool?" Mallory chuckled dryly. "Of course you’d be the happiest one about this. You’ve always had your eye on my inheritance, I’m not surprised you’d want me gone the most."
Vance clenched his jaw, "Your inheritance? Look at how cocky you are cousin. And here I thought we were family."
Mallory held onto his wrist and glared sharply at him. "If you’re my family you’ll go downstairs and call ridiculous this marriage idea off. Or else I’ll disappear from everyone’s lives-"
"Do it. Do you think anyone would care if you vanished? You’ll just be making things easier." He released her hand and stuck his fingers in his pockets. "I’ll even help you run away, I’ll book plane tickets for you, anything you want. Just promise me, that you’ll leave this house and never come back." He offered her, in a seemingly serious manner.
Mallory blinked twice, "You’re serious? You’ll help me leave, and you’ll support me?"
He nodded, "It’s just like you said, if you’re gone I’ll be the only one around to inherit everything. And I can tell that you’re not someone capable of running the family business and you don’t have the spine to marry either." He eyed her from head to toe and let out a hiss. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"Frankly speaking, I was against the idea of paying men to see you. It’s a waste of money, but uncle and aunt couldn’t abandon you, they wanted you to get married and survive. But, if you take my advice, I’ll make sure you’re well taken care of. And you can even become a designer, just like you want to."
Mallory pursued her lips, she could get behind the idea of Vance wanting her gone so he could get the inheritance. But what was the guarantee that when he got it he wouldn’t cast her aside and allow her suffer.
"You have to make your choice quickly, cousin. My deal won’t be on the table for much longer-" he was saying, only to get interrupted by a maid who came rushing to get Mallory.
"Miss Rosamund, there’s a suitor downstairs to see you!" She announced breathlessly.
Vance hissed, "Can’t you see we’re in the middle of a conversation?! Get out!"
But the maid rested against the door, catching her breath. Mallory swiftly poured a glass of water and handed it to the maid. After the woman gulped it down she straightened her back to properly give the announcement.
"Miss Rosamund, young master Grayson is downstairs and has announced that he wants to marry you!" She declared, garnering shocked expressions from both cousins.
Vance and Mallory exchanged shocked glances with each other.
"Thane is downstairs?!" Vance cried out, before rushing out to confirm the news. Mallory’s chest tightened at the possibility, but she couldn’t shake off the feeling of disappointment and doubt in her heart.
She swiftly followed after Vance, flying down the stairs, until they were at the foot of the stairs, where Amanda and Godfrey were waiting.
The expectant look on Mallory’s face vanished instantaneously when her eyes landed on Matthew, who came dressed in rough clothes, reeking of alcohol and his overall demeanor looking tattered.
Vance couldn’t hold back his laugh. "I can’t fucking believe it! Matthew, you’re this shameless? To try and marry my cousin off for money?!" He cackled at the end of his statement, finding the entire situation amusing.
Amanda scoffed, "Aren’t you hiding from your grandfather and cousin? Do you think we would house you and incur zachiel’s wrath?"
Mallory’s stomach tied nervous knots. Judging from how Matthew looked he had just gotten sober and wasn’t fully aware of what he was doing.
She balled her fists, appalled.
"Amanda, let’s be frank with each other. Even if I’m a worthless bastard I’m still a Grayson. Mallory marrying into my family is nothing but beneficial to you." He started off, showing he wasn’t as drunk as he let on.
But Godfrey was unimpressed. "If it was Thane, we would’ve agreed to this in a heartbeat. After all it was he we sought out in the first place. But no one wants you, because there’s no value in allying with you. So while I’m being cordial, you should get out of here."
In a composed manner Matthew retorted, "Thane has disowned my grandfather, there is nothing to gain by siding with him."
"What?" Mallory gasped, instantly worried about Thane.
"That’s bullshit. Why would he throw away his inheritance?" Vance retorted.
"None of that matters, what matters is that at the moment grandfather is very weak. His successor has left him and he is at his most vulnerable. If anyone is going to make a move to become his favorite then they must act fast." He explained.
Godfrey shook his head, "Even if this is true, Edward wouldn’t let his William lose this chance. Zachiel would chose William over you in a heartbeat-"
Matthew chimed swiftly, "But, what if I told you that I have leverage."
"Leverage?" Godfrey and his wife exchanged glances.
"Leverage that would turn grandfather away from their faction and completely draw him over to me. But to do that, I’ll need two things, money to pay off my debt." He started off, then averted his gaze to Mallory, who stood fixed at the foot of the stairs.
"And a fiancé to grant me an audience."
