Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 157: Awoken From The Coma
Chapter 157: Awoken From The Coma
By the time Thane woke up, he nearly turned the hospital upside down he couldn’t find his wife. He had tried calling Brooke’s phone, but she wasn’t answering.
Fear, worry, anger, panic seeped into his mind all at once. He knew the sort of wife he had, and he knew the sort of family he belonged to. He was afraid of what someone would try to do to her.
He was angry at the thought of it too.
But, he was angrier at the fact that his wife still didn’t see him as someone she could turn to for help, and she’d still run off after he poured his heart out to her.
It wasn’t until a message popped on his screen from her that she was already at his house, and for some urgent business, hence she couldn’t call.
He immediately called Hannah, but found out that she was halfway across the city, and surprisingly with Matthew.
Thane frowned at the thought of Matthew and Hannah together for any reason whatsoever. He had barely seen the two interact, talk less of travelling together.
Immediately, he called Gilbert, thankfully, he answered his phone and was in the city.
"Head over there first and retrieve my wife. And make sure to let me know the name of anyone who even dares to lay a finger on her." He said into the phone while taking out his clothes.
Just as he finished dressing up and was about to storm out, a knock followed by the abrupt arrival of doctor Anders interrupted him.
"Master Grayson, I have the reports ready-"
"Later." He cut her off.
But doctor Anders didn’t leave. She passed the two white envelopes in her hands to him, then stared him down strictly, letting him know that this could not wait.
Thane sighed, at least he had sent Gilbert to go after her, he thought whilst he begrudgingly opened the envelopes.
Whilst he skimmed through the contents, doc Anders filled him in. "As per your request, I lied about your report to Maverick, and told him that it was at the arrival at the Grayson Manor that the drug was laced into your system."
Thane nodded. "You weren’t caught now, were you?"
"Sir, I do not take pride in my talent of forgery, but I will say I’m damn good at fabricating medical reports. To Maverick, your condition only took this toll after you took those drugs. However..." she left her sentence hanging, letting Thane fill in the blanks.
He stared at both reports and sighed, "It’s the same drug, the one that made me faint back home."
"Yes, your assumption back then was correct that it wasn’t carelessness of your condition that caused the deterioration. But that someone had laced another drug into your system." She acknowledged, her tone apologetic for not believing him then.
But what was she to do?
Master Grayson had always been a meticulous person and never did more than he was required to. Hence, it came as a shock to hear that he had been working relentlessly with his team, on a prosthetic, and collapsed in the workshop.
"Master Grayson, please don’t play with your health like this ever again. You could’ve taken the medicine and sent it to me for testing. Why did you need to drink it first to confirm?" she turned to scolding, still unable to believe that he would go to such lengths.
"I need whomever is planning to kill me to think I haven’t been in the know. If I didn’t drink the medicine back then or reacted to it, they would’ve immediately known I’ve caught on to their earlier plan to kill me back home. But now," he picked up both results and started to rip them. "They believe I’m unaware of the mole they planted back home to kill me."
Doc Anders felt a cold shiver cascade her spine. "But, who do you suspect?"
Thane did not hesitate when he responded, "You, the most."
Doc Anders forced a laugh. "Master Grayson, don’t joke like that, I wouldn’t have shown you these reports had I been the mole-"
"On the contrary, you would, to take off the suspicion from you. As my personal doctor back home, you’re at the best position to take advantage of my condition." He explained with no bias in his words
Anders balled her fists, "I can understand your sentiment, but I do hope that you don’t doubt me. I took an oath to save lives, I wouldn’t try taking yours." She said.
Thane got up, the pieces of the paper still in his hand. "Breathe a word of this to no one. When I return to the city today, we’ll speak more." He said, his eyes on the security camera in the room.
He groaned.
Yet, another loose end he had to tie before leaving.
On his way out, towards the elevator, he passed by a woman who ran past with some doctors. She looked to be in her late thirties of early forties. The only reason Thane had noticed her, was because she nearly collided with him on her way to the elevator.
"I’m telling you doctor! He’s woken up from his coma!" the woman shouted, getting into the elevator.
Thane walked into the elevator, and kept a distance from them, hoping no one would recognize his face and draw attention to him. The last thing he wanted was Maverick knowing when he left the hospital or the country. However, he doubted anyone would pay him any mind, with the current situation of things.
The doctor tried to calm her down, his features contorted into a deep frown "Madam Susan, are you certain he woke up? I don’t want this to be another false alarm-"
"No! He coughed...He’s coughing! My nephew is awake! My Kayden has finally woken up!" she spat out, tears streaming down her face.
She took out her phone and tried to place a call a few times, but the other line didn’t answer. She hissed, "Where the hell is that brother of mine? What could be more important right now than his son finally waking up?!"
