Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 129: A Private Conversation
Chapter 129: A Private Conversation
Brooke heaved a sigh of relief when she saw Cressida tucked neatly into bed, fast asleep. She wheeled herself over to the balcony of the room, where Maverickhad taken his shirt off to treat the scratches on his chest.
Brooke looked away from his body, but not without noticing how fit he was.
It made her wonder why the son of such a wealthy family did so much physical conditioning. Didn’t he have people paid to keep him safe?
And what was he training for exactly?
’His clothes do a good job hiding all those muscle.’ she thought to herself.
"Brooke." Maverickcalled out to her, "There’s something I need to ask you."
Brooke nodded, "As do I."
"Alright, you go first." He said, closing up the first aid kit.
She cleared her throat, "Well, it’s about Cressida. Is there something wrong with her memory? She couldn’t recognize me even though we already met." Of course, what Brooke wanted to know more about was the medicine they tried forcing on her.
And then...
’She said a name, Zelda? Who was she confusing me for?’ she thought, conflicted over whether or not to bring it up.
"Ah, that." He groaned, sinking into the chair, his thighs spread apart.
"She has a disassociative personality disorder." He said. "As it stands, to cope with something from her past, she adopted another personality. But as a result, she sometimes loses the memories of when she embodies the other personality."
"What triggered it?" Brooke inquired.
"That’s not for you to know." He replied, his tone stiff.
Brooke parted her lips to say something, but decided against it, she could tell it was a sensitive topic, and none of her business. It was their family matter, and she decided to respect that.
"Um, so what did you want to ask me? Is it about..." she left her sentence hanging, unsure of how to officially address Mr Grayson in front of his family.
"It’s about your husband, and I want this conversation to remain just between us." he said, making Brooke tensed.
What about Thane did he want to discuss in private?
"Is it about his health? Is he okay? I heard he made a fast recovery-"
Maverick cut her off, "I don’t know where you heard that from, but I’ll have you know your husband’s condition is dire, right now I can’t tell if he’ll survive it this time."
Brooke turned to check if he was serious, "No," she gasped and covered her mouth in disbelief. "But Hannah said-"
A sigh escaped Malcolm’s lips, "His condition was fine up until now, in fact he was making an actual recovery. Granted, he had some setbacks, but it was nothing serious. That was, until his last attack, and now I’m wondering what could have caused this." He confessed, leaving Brooke worried.
"Why? He took his medicines earlier that morning, or was it because we went to that bar?"
Malcom’s ears perked up. "Medicine? What medicine?"
Brooke pulled out her phone and showed Maverick the photos of the medicines her husband took. Maverick stared at the photo critically for some moments before letting out a hiss. "Damn it Thane, you were far more conscious. How the hell did you not notice this?" He frowned.
"What? What’s wrong?" Brooke asked, her heart pounding.
Maverick leaned in and zoomed in to the white pills, "He takes only three white pills, but there are four, and this one," he zoomed in on one of the pills, "This isn’t part of his prescription."
Brooke gasped, "You mean someone tampered with his medication?" She demanded.
Maverick nodded, "Before, I wasn’t so sure, but now I’m certain that his medication was tampered with. And by the looks of it but was by someone from the family."
"Was that why you wanted to speak with me in person? Because you already suspected this?"
He smiled, "I see my cousin doesn’t miss when it comes to choosing his lover." In response he said, "I compared the results from his last trip and his current trip, and I can say with all certainty that the reason his health is deteriorating is because someone is trying to kill him."

Flashback
*Audition day*
As per her punishment, Brooke was meant to eat leftovers for breakfast, but all of a sudden Luther changed his decision and decided to treat both girls to breakfast.
"I’ll drive you both to the audition on the way we’ll have breakfast." Luther said.
Brooke’s lips spread into a wide grin, "Really?" It was the first time she would be eating out. Luther always took Cassie out for ice cream and other yummy foods, but never her v

"It’s fine, you can call me that today." He said, opening the backseat door for them both.
Brooke’s heart skipped a beat, she looked over her shoulder at her mother who was equally stunned at her husband’s sudden change in character.
She planted a kiss on Brooke’s forehead then tried to kiss Cassie but the girl refused it. Angry she pointed at her father, "Why are we letting the witch ride with us?"
Luther scolded her harshly, "Cassie! Don’t say that about Brooke again! You should be ashamed of yourself! Brooke was scouted for this role, but what about you? What can you do aside getting jealous?"
Cassie’s eyes watered, "Daddy-"
"Get in the car! Or I’ll leave you behind." He yelled, not letting her whine as usual.
Cassie glared harshly at Brooke before she went over to the front seat, but her father stopped her. "Today, you sit in the back Cassie. Brooke will sit in front."
"W-What? But I usually sit in front daddy." She cried.
Luther’s frown did not let up. "And today your elder sister will sit with me in front, you stay in back."
"Father, it’s alright I can sit in back." Brooke intervened, feeling sorry for her sister.
But Luther was obstinate, "Cassie needs to learn that as long as you are here, she can’t get everything she wants anymore." He said, being intentional with his words.
"Now get in Cassie! Before I get angry at you!" He ordered, making a helpless Cassie sit in back.
Watching the pouring child from the rearview mirror, Luther couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear. ’Yes my dear, keep getting angry. While this wench still remains here, you need to know none of us can ever be happy.’
