Deities Are All Just My Food-Chapter 2236 - 999: The Eerie Old Lady
As time went on, the streets gradually became quieter.
"Don’t you think that old lady is walking a bit too fast?"
Lin Baici scrutinized the old woman’s figure ahead, keeping a considerable distance, yet assured he wouldn’t lose her.
"Didn’t she say she had to hurry back to cook for her grandson?"
Xia Hongyao said, suddenly pausing: "Wait!"
"She was just hit by a truck; even if she’s unharmed, her legs shouldn’t be so nimble, right?"
Xia Hongyao’s eyes brightened; she found it, it was this one.
"Not just that, she’s acting like a fisherman waiting for the fish to bite, ready to reel them in!"
Lin Baici contemplated: "Let’s not follow!"
Lin Baici turned around and headed back.
After activating A Sip of A Hundred Flavors, he could rely on it like a police dog, able to find the target even if losing sight of it for a few minutes.
"What’s wrong?"
Xia Hongyao didn’t understand Lin Baici’s intention.
"Testing!"
Lin Baici walked back, estimating possible forthcoming scenarios. Just as they crossed the road and entered a street, they halted. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Ahead, an old woman identical to the previous one stood in the alley, walking their way.
"..."
Xia Hongyao looked shocked, instinctively turning her head.
Should be the same person, right?
Faced with such an eerie sight, an average God Hunter might panic, but Lin Baici and Xia Hongyao remained fearless due to their formidable powers.
The old woman strolled over and stopped as she approached Lin Baici, turning to look at him.
Xia Hongyao clenched her fists.
The old woman’s pupils were yellowish white, murky, resembling the eyes of a rotting sardine, exuding a sense of weirdness and disgust.
Lin Baici remained motionless, head lowered, towering over the old woman.
All fear stems from lack of firepower. Lin Baici, having consumed Gods, wouldn’t fear this monster.
"Do you believe I could eat you with soy sauce?"
"You look so much like my son!"
"He loved eating the clay pot rice I cooked since childhood, but my son went out to work and hasn’t returned for a long time!"
The old woman sighed, reminiscing about the past.
Xia Hongyao covered her mouth and quietly asked Lin Baici: "Should we respond?"
"Wait!"
Lin Baici remained unresponsive.
"Haha, my grandson also loves the clay pot rice I cook. Oh dear, my grandson must be hungry; I have to hurry back to cook for him!"
The old woman seemed to have an epiphany, no longer stared at Lin Baici and Xia Hongyao, and hurriedly walked away.
"Follow her!"
Xia Hongyao urged.
The signal was too obvious.
Once they stopped following, the old woman retraced her steps, indicating she was the key figure triggering the plot.
"Wait a bit more!"
Lin Baici held Xia Hongyao back.
The old woman, after walking a dozen meters, suddenly turned: "Are you two homeless, wandering around late at night?"
"Want to come to my home for clay pot rice?"
Xia Hongyao licked her lips, glanced at Lin Baici, knowing the question couldn’t be answered carelessly.
[Refusing would lead to the old woman chasing them with a knife on the street!]
"Thank you, granny!"
Lin Baici understood: meeting this old woman meant there was no escaping this pollution.
The old woman smiled.
"Come home with me!"
After speaking, she turned and continued walking.
Lin Baici and Xia Hongyao exchanged glances and followed.
This seemed to be where the poor lived, narrow streets, cramped, with the stench of the sewer.
It was alley after alley, walking for about twenty minutes until the old woman stopped in front of a dilapidated residential building.
"Here we are, you must be hungry too? Come upstairs with me."
The old woman said with a smile, entering the building and pressing the elevator button.
"Quickly come in!"
The old woman urged.
The elevator was old and inside was a puddle of dog urine and several cigarette butts.
Lin Baici and Xia Hongyao entered; as the elevator was about to close, another woman rushed in.
"Bringing people home again for dinner? You have such a kind heart!"
The woman casually chatted, knowing the old woman.
The fifteenth floor arrived.
Lin Baici and Xia Hongyao followed the old woman out, walking down a dark corridor to the west end apartment.
The old woman took out a key, opening the security door, releasing a foul odor.
"Ugh!"
Xia Hongyao immediately covered her mouth and nose, nearly vomiting from the smell.
"Shoes are here!"
The old woman took two pairs of slippers from the shoe rack, gazing at Lin Baici and Xia Hongyao.
Xia Hongyao immediately became wary, ready for combat.
This smell was of rotting corpses.
Lin Baici locked the door behind them.
"Sit down first!"
Seeing they hadn’t left, the old woman smiled, no longer focused on them, and headed to the kitchen with a basket of vegetables.
"Since we’re here, might as well make the best of it!"
Xia Hongyao planned to check the place first, but as she approached the living room door, she froze.
Inside were a group of people seated.
"What’s going on?"
But Xia Hongyao quickly didn’t care and beamed with joy as Gu Qingqiu was also there.
"Little Qiu Qiu!"
Xia Hongyao waved: "Little Linzi, come quick, we’ve found Qingqiu."
Lin Baici walked over and swept his gaze.
The living room had Gu Qingqiu and five others.
This included Liao Hongming whom they met previously, the high-caste Indian cutting in line, and a middle-aged man with his mistress.
"Brother Lin?"
Liao Hongming, previously restless, upon seeing Lin Baici, immediately lit up and ran over.
"Brother Lin, we truly have fate!"
