Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 293
The cultist stopped running and decided to stall Aaron from reaching others, giving others the chance to complete their mission. As long as they were able to do that and as long as he escaped from the boy, he would be golden.
He believed that as soon as the destruction started, the patrol boy would be distracted, which would give him a chance to escape. As long as that happened, he would get the rewards for the mission from the cult, something that he had been waiting to earn for a long time.
"Once I utilise those rewards, my strength will start to skyrocket. Maybe I would not stay behind as some no-name Rank-4 professional for long. I will reach Rank-5, then Rank-6 and above would soon become my achievements", he internally mused to himself, already feeling that he has won already.
The man has no idea who he is facing at the moment. Unlike other flashy professionals who would show their prowess to the world, Aaron was a low-key type. So, the cultist was not at fault here.
Though Aaron was on the hit list of the Cult, he was somewhere down in the list, especially as a new generation of talents had appeared, which seemed easier to erase for the cults than the older ones.
Also, an almost open war is going on.
So, that means he was not a critical enemy to be remembered for the cultist to either avoid or eliminate him on sight. Except for appearing on top twice or thrice at most, he didn’t make any waves at all.
This worked in Aaron’s favour. The cultists who were present in the city didn’t recognise him. Everyone who could was either dead, forgotten about him as there were much more important things to do, or not here in the city at the moment.
The man started to cast his magic skill, but Aaron didn’t give him any chance at all. He used his skill Sprint and appeared in front of the man before the man was able to complete his cast, and punched him in the face, while withholding as much as he could.
The man almost lost his face, a few teeth were lost, he spoke with a lisp, "How did you do that?" and fell unconscious.
"Pathetic, but that saves me time. Now that you are taken care of, let’s hold even more next so that I can catch the other four as well, probably without them losing any teeth. The more members I can catch alive, the better the chances of knowing what you have been doing in the city", Aaron muttered to himself as he started in one of the directions that his ghosts are communicating with him.

Elsewhere...
"Shit, everything was going fine until that young boy started walking towards us. Maybe we could have amended whatever it was by talking, but by running, it was like we were shouting that we were guilty", one of the cultists cursed as he ran, checking behind every now and then.
No one knows which one the boy targeted. Once they are a safe distance away and are not being chased, they can be considered safe.
It was because the patrol boy could have called for reinforcements the moment they started to run, but they were not fighting in the same place. So, as long as they were away, no matter how many reinforcements came, there would be nothing they could do.
These were the thoughts that flowed through everyone’s mind.
They slowed down after seeing that no one was chasing them. As they believed for a second that they were safe, a light lit up and an alarm broke.
It was coming from their watch.
"Shit, he was already caught. Damn it. It was good that no one came in my direction", all four thought, relieved that they were not in any danger.
These watches are a new technology that the cults developed. Any synchronised watch can emit a signal to other watches that they have been caught and to warn them to escape. It was not a standard signal that the alliance could intercept, such as those used by communicators, and track other escaped cultists.
When the first one was caught, he signalled discreetly, or so he thought. Aaron saw the action but didn’t think much about it, as nothing happened after that.
They slowly walked, trying to blend into the public, but a minute later, the alarm on his watch started to blare again.
"Shit, how can this be? Did that idiot go in the direction and get caught himself?" the others cursed internally.
They couldn’t understand what was happening. They have clearly split up and gone in different directions, but two were caught and that too within such a short time.
That could be possible only if the second one ran in the direction of the first one, without knowing that he was going that way.
"Idiot", each cursed the one, whoever it was.
Now they were down by two, and that means only three were available to complete the mission, which means the chances of achieving the mission have reduced.
As they were cursing, another alarm appeared.
This time, fear took hold of the remaining two, "This is not a coincidence. Someone is hunting us" The two cursed and started to run again. This time, they didn’t care about disturbing whatever stood in their way.
They need to run as fast as possible from here, or else get caught. At that time, the safest place would be Cult Base, but if they brought outsiders to the base, the cultists would be the first to kill them. No need to worry about the alliance dogs catching them.
After a minute, another alarm came up, but the last one didn’t even care to stop. He didn’t even care what kind of commotion he caused. In fact, he was hoping that he would be lost from whoever was hunting them in a big crowd. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
If they were tracking him by scent, that may have been true, but that is not what their hunter was using to track them.

Mary and her master were strolling through the market when a slight commotion attracted their attention.
They saw that a young man, probably in his thirties, was running away in a hurry, causing a slight commotion, but what attracted them was not the man, but the ethereal creatures that were following him stealthily.
"Ghosts", they both said in a light murmur.
They looked at each other before her master spoke, "Let’s follow", and started to follow the ghosts quietly.
