Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 292
"Oh, it looks like they are guilty of something for sure", Aaron muttered as he chased the runners.
They were very far away at the start, and when they started to run, they drank something, which made them run faster.
"Oh, shit, they made themselves faster. If I keep trying to put the image that I am just a second-year student, then things might escalate into something bad. I am no hero, but this is my home and I have to give 100% of my effort if the situation demands it", Aaron sighed, thinking about the possible ramifications of the choices he has to make or not make.
Aaron felt that letting even one of the five disappear now would have significant ramifications, which he didn’t want to happen. So, he increased his speed.
A few seconds later, the group split up, and each of the five ran away in a different direction.
"Son of a...", Aaron cursed and followed a random one, but he didn’t let go of the other four.
He discreetly released twenty ghosts, five for each of the four. He ordered them to follow them discreetly and relay the information on what’s happening to him.
Ever since the day of the incident with the Cult member at Duskmist City, Aaron has felt changes in his undead. He had no idea what exactly had happened, but he felt the increase in bond with his undead.
He can communicate with them, even if he is very far away.
Similar to how signal relays work, one of the undead can pass the information to another, and then to another, finally reaching him, if he is too far away.
Aaron believed that was a side effect of him using Death Energy to boost his undead. He was not sure, but it was one of the two things that happened on that day, which could explain this.
The other one, the Skeleton King, Aaron doubts if it had anything to do with the side effect.
There is a slight chance that the Skelton King caused this side effect. He, after all, spoke as if he knew Aaron and was waiting for him to summon, for a long time. The Skeleton King even said that Aaron’s memories have yet to surface.
What memories, he has no idea. He already has memories of his past life.
So, a part of him felt that the Skelton King might have done something while he was frozen in fear. There is a high chance that it happened, though the most likely and probable cause could be Aaron infusing Death Energy into the skeletons.
Though he felt that was the case, he didn’t push and try to find out about it.
Even doing what that man did back then was a risky move, which a cautious person like him wouldn’t do, but for some reason, he felt compelled to do that. Well, he was not exactly compelled, but close to it.
Any direct research in crowded places or unsecured areas could leave him in a vulnerable state. So, he decided to look into the books about that fact, but found nothing about it. In the end, he had to push any thoughts about revealing the cause and, if possible, even improve the effect, but in the meantime, he decided to make the best use of this little side effect.
He had tested this effect, and it was terrific; unless there was a break in the relaying undead, he could know what was happening thousands of kilometres away, but that was just theoretical.
There is no way he can spread his undead like that.
There are monsters, even humans, who might eliminate them on sight, thinking of them as enemies or some EXP and Resource points for them. Also, there would be energy disturbances, which, while he was not sure, were said to disrupt summoned beings.
If not for the fact that such a method could burn more resources, professionals who rely on summoned beings can be easily dealt with. Whether it was a Death professional who has undead summon or tamers and normal summoners, who have a lot of monsters under their control, they are quite troublesome, due to the large number of summons and methods that can create energy disturbances, which can break links between the summoner and the summoned.
It was very effective in dealing with summoners, but the cost was too much.
Though for humans it would be costly, nature would occasionally create energy disturbances, sometimes confined to specific areas, where it would be a permanent occasion. At the same time, it would be temporary in some areas.
So, such a method was never possible nor viable, but the little distance inside the Rock City was no bother.
There were no monsters, which means he can use that method with fewer problems, but humans would still cause a ruckus if they saw undead roaming the streets.
Ghosts, on the other hand, are stealthy, and unless there is a powerful professional or someone who is related to Death or Light Professions, no one can detect them easily.
Unlike monsters, which rely solely on instincts, humans don’t have such instincts naturally. Only as they grow strong would they develop such instincts, but this is just Tier-1 city, which means such professionals are less likely to be here.
It was why, instead of skeletons, he released ghosts without thinking twice.
---
While the ghosts were divided into four groups, Aaron followed the biggest one among them.
He felt that this one was the strongest, and he even heard that he was the one who said to split and run in different directions. So, Aaron thought that this one might be the leader of the five.
So, sending ghosts behind him would be wasteful, and he could escape their attacks or even their sight, which Aaron wouldn’t want to happen.
The cultist ran for a while, creating a large gap between them, but as time went on, the gap reduced, as Aaron slowly increased his speed, while the potion that the cultist took slowly started to fade away.
"Fuck", the cultist cursed, "If I try, I can try to stop him for a while, which would be enough for others to start the work, and once it starts, I could get a chance to escape", he decided and stopped.
The cultist stood in a fighting stance, ready to take down Aaron.
Aaron, who saw the cultist stop, said, "Ah, so you decided that running was not an option and decided to fight me, huh? Oh, why should I say no?" Aaron chuckled lightly, feeling that because of his age, he was looked down on by the cultist, which was going to cost him dearly.
