Chapter 73: Chapter 73 Qiu Xingcai’s Confession

Chen Xiaobei then grabbed the man’s neck and hauled him out of the passenger seat.

"Fuck! Who the hell are you?" the man yelled, having fallen painfully to the ground. He glared up at Chen Xiaobei as he cursed.

He was around Chen Xiaobei’s age and dressed sharply, with a slicked-back hairstyle that gave him the look of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He seemed vaguely familiar to Chen Xiaobei, who figured he must be an old classmate.

But Chen Xiaobei couldn’t care less who he was. "I’m Chen Xiaobei, Qiu Xingcai’s classmate," he snorted. "What gives you the right to bully her?"

"It’s you?" Zhang Xiangdong was stunned. A moment later, he scrambled up from the ground, shouting, "Fuck, Chen Xiaobei! Open your goddamn eyes and look! I’m Zhang Xiangdong! You fucking dare to hit me? Do you have a death wish?"

With that, Zhang Xiangdong lunged at Chen Xiaobei.

Chen Xiaobei squinted. He was certainly familiar with the name Zhang Xiangdong. Back in school, the guy had been their class tyrant. Thanks to his family’s money, he did whatever he wanted. Since Chen Xiaobei was a good student, Zhang Xiangdong was always trying to copy his answers during exams. But Chen Xiaobei refused to indulge him, and before long, Zhang Xiangdong came to hate him for it. However, Chen Xiaobei wasn’t just smart; he could also fight, so Zhang Xiangdong had never dared to provoke him. The two hadn’t seen each other since graduation.

Now, Chen Xiaobei easily grabbed Zhang Xiangdong’s wrist. "I was wondering who it was," he said with contempt. "Turns out it’s you, you asshole."

"You were no match for me back then, and you still dare to curse at me now? Between the two of us, who do you think is asking for a death wish?" As he spoke, Chen Xiaobei’s grip tightened.

"AAAAH!" Zhang Xiangdong shrieked. "Fuck! Chen Xiaobei, let me go if you have any balls!"

Grimacing in pain, Zhang Xiangdong sank to his knees.

Just then, Qiu Xingcai, having straightened her clothes, hurried over to pull the two apart.

"Xiaobei, everyone, calm down! We’re all classmates; there’s no need to start fighting the moment we see each other!"

Her words made Chen Xiaobei a little uncomfortable. What does she mean, ’start fighting the moment we see each other’? I was hitting him to save you, wasn’t I? But Chen Xiaobei wasn’t in the mood to argue about the details, so he released Zhang Xiangdong.

"Chen Xiaobei, you’ve got guts! Just you wait!" Zhang Xiangdong snarled, then pointed at Qiu Xingcai. "And you! You’d better think carefully about the consequences of crossing me. If you don’t want your company to go bankrupt, you’ll be a good girl and wait for me after dinner!"

With that, Zhang Xiangdong ran into the hotel, pulling out his phone as he went—probably to call for backup.

"Xiaobei, I’m so sorry," Qiu Xingcai said, her face full of remorse. She rubbed her brow, looking utterly exhausted. "If I’d known this would happen, I never would have asked you to come."

"It’s fine. I’m not afraid of him," Chen Xiaobei said with a faint smile. "He didn’t get to you, did he? It’s a good thing I arrived when I did, or the consequences would have been unthinkable. Oh, right. Zhang Xiangdong just mentioned your company is going bankrupt. What’s that about? You can tell me. Maybe I can help."

Chen Xiaobei’s face was full of genuine concern. Even though what Qiu Xingcai had said earlier bothered him, he knew she was a good person. After all, even on the verge of bankruptcy, she had still offered him a job. That gesture had genuinely touched him. Besides, he felt guilty about something that had happened between them in the past and truly wanted to make it up to her.

But Qiu Xingcai just chuckled. "Xiaobei, thank you for the offer, but this is something you can’t help me with. Why don’t you head home for now? Once I get through this, I’ll treat you to a proper meal, okay?"

"Why?" Chen Xiaobei was speechless.

"Sigh..." Qiu Xingcai said apologetically. "Zhang Xiangdong has done very well for himself in the county these past few years. He’s the president of the Songshan Rural Credit Cooperative now. He’s the type to hold a grudge. You embarrassed him badly when you saved me, so he’ll definitely come after you for revenge. You should leave now. Don’t get into it with him." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

"Oh, I get it now." It dawned on Chen Xiaobei. "Your company is on the verge of bankruptcy, and since Zhang Xiangdong happens to be the bank president, he’s using it to blackmail you into sleeping with him. If you don’t, he won’t give you the loan, is that it? That son of a bitch! What kind of scum is he? I swear, he’s just begging for a beating!"

"Please, Xiaobei!" With a helpless expression, Qiu Xingcai bit her lip and grabbed his hand. "Don’t be angry. This is just reality. What can we do? He’s the one with the power. To be honest, I arranged this dinner tonight specifically for Zhang Xiangdong. I only invited you because I figured, hey, we’re all classmates. I never thought it would turn out like this... Please, just listen to me and go home. Another day, I promise I’ll treat you to a proper meal!"

"But—" Chen Xiaobei hesitated.

With Qiu Xingcai putting it like that, if he insisted on staying, he would really look like a desperate simp. Qiu Xingcai was beautiful, but not so beautiful that Chen Xiaobei would ever fawn over her.

But just as Chen Xiaobei was about to leave, a fragrant scent washed over him. Qiu Xingcai had suddenly risen onto her tiptoes, bringing her lips close to his ear to whisper, "Xiaobei, all these years... I’ve never been able to forget you. Now, my body, my looks... I’m completely different from how I was back then. If there’s ever a chance, I really want to be your girlfriend. I like you so, so much. But for now... please, just go. I don’t want to see you get hurt."

MWAH.

After speaking, Qiu Xingcai planted a quick kiss on his cheek, then turned and ran into the hotel.

Clutching his warm, damp cheek, Chen Xiaobei stood there, completely dumbfounded. What the hell was that all about? Was that... a confession? Is my charm really that powerful? Thinking about it... maybe it is.

After all, she didn’t know he was rich now, nor did she have any idea about his incredible new abilities. Her confession, right at this moment, had to be purely out of genuine affection. This realization left Chen Xiaobei feeling both speechless and a little thrilled.

"This damn charm of mine..." Chen Xiaobei scratched his head. I can’t believe Qiu Xingcai still has a thing for me!

Qiu Xingcai’s company was on the brink of bankruptcy, and Zhang Xiangdong was using it as leverage. Willing or not, she would probably have to give in to him. They’re all adults, after all. Some things are just depressingly out of one’s control.

If Qiu Xingcai had simply walked away earlier without saying anything, Chen Xiaobei might not have bothered to get involved. But now that she had confessed to him, there was no way in hell he was going to let Zhang Xiangdong take advantage of her.

Besides, Zhang Xiangdong had just insulted him. If he walked away now, wouldn’t that make him look like a total coward?

With that thought, Chen Xiaobei strode into the hotel.

But before he could even reach the private room, his phone rang. It was He Lisan.

"What’s up?" Chen Xiaobei answered, curious.
